Yeah, she is right but Madonna is not a very good example of a "talented" singer. Madonna had to use explicit sex - her image, her "Sex book", the Truth or Dare- to make herself relevant. She did not have the talent or voice required to have a long term career without it.

I admire Tracy Chapman, but I think she's got it wrong on this one. There is nothing wrong with Madonna continuing to have a career, but it's a joke that she tries to pass herself off as a sex goddess with her age-INappropriate clothing and behavior. What once was edgy and controversial now comes across as desperate and pathetic. If she was as wise as she tries to come across as, then she would know better, but she's just another delusional egomaniac.

She's absolutely right! Just look at these blogs and read the reactions when there's a post about her. She gets NO respect from a large group of people while male equivalents get praised and sucked up to like it's nobody's business. In the meantime, M is still doing it. Performing at the highest level and if she wants to work that amazing body she trains to hard for to maintain, then so be it. Take it as an example to strive for perfection and looking good, at any age. Because certain stars of today half her age have less control over their body as she does. I don't know why people act like Madonna has a monopoly on longevity. There are many (far more talented) female artists that have been around a lot longer and are still doing their thing: Barbra Streisand (46 years in the music business and still has albums going platinum), Tina Turner, Cher, Donna Summer, Carly Simon, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, and Aretha Franklin, just to name a few. Tracy Chapman isn't even giving herself credit; she's been around for 20 years, and still has albums charting with little publicity. Granted some of those artists listed may not have had consistent success like Madonna, but then again, they don't feel the need to be in the publics' face all the time either (a little subtlety never hurt anyone). Perhaps people are saying they wish Madonna would retire because they're tired of hearing of every move she makes, or listening to the soulless music she keeps putting out.
