The Farm Sanctuary is an amazing place, I interned there over this past summer. It was a life changing experience. EVERY meat eater should be required to visit there to gain an eye opening experience into how the animals you eat are SUPPOSED to live! I'm so glad you are sharing their adopt a turkey project on your website. Kudos Perez.
And I urge the rest of you to think about what you eat, and help end farm animal suffering! Choose compassion this thanksgiving!

THANK YOU for this AMAZING, inspirational post. Farm Sanctuary is such an amazing organization. For the person who implied this cause was useless because there are people suffering, all suffering matters! We will not find peace and an end to human suffering until we learn to treat those below us with respect.
OPRAH recently had a show on Prop 2 and ended it by saying that a society can be judged by the way it treats the least among us. This is no longer a fringe issue. Californians passed Prop 2. Ellen, Oprah, Natalie Portman, Tobie Maguire- they are all vegan. Animal suffering and the egregious cruelty present on factory farms is increasingly becoming of concern to Americans, as it should.
THANK YOU for giving coverage to this cause. Too often this kind of suffering- and who are we to quantify suffering?- is forgotten.

I adopted Hannah the turkey. My boyfriend's mom is a horrible cook and I rather save a turkey than go to her house. I am eating McDonalds with my gay best friend, rock on!

Thanks for posting this Perez! I always thought Turkeys were stupid until I actually met one. They are so similar to cats - they like to have their bellies scratched, they rub their head against your leg, they even coo when you pet them! Its so sad that more than 72 million of the nearly 270 million turkeys killed for food every year in the U.S. are slaughtered for holiday meals. If you have a heart, and if you wouldn't eat your dog or cat, please don't eat a Turkey this Thanksgiving.

Why bother? There are still millions going to be slaughtered for Thanksgiving and really, isn't that why they're bred in captivity anyway? Yeah, the Palin turkey slaughter thing was gruesome but turkeys are meant to be eaten with stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Re: flrtybiotch – Actually a lot of "tree hugging hippies" do have lives. Having compassion for an animal that is known only by humans is food is pretty damn considerate. Especially since most people who bitch about "tree huggers" do absolutely nothing to help human or animal at all. Every little effort counts. One person can't change the world but we can all do something…even adopting a single turkey.

This hot diva wouldn't put dead, tortured birds in her mouth for all the tea in China. I just came back from a weekend playing with adorable Turkeys. I promise you most as sweet as kittens. They COO like babies when you pet them. Please consider sparing the life of a Turkey this holiday season. These sweet affectionate birds suffer dreadfully to fill your belly. There is another way. Watch as Sarah Palin enjoys a slaughter moment or this typical moment a Turkey Farm. Read what the New York Times has to say. As Karen Dawn says; I do hope anybody considering eating turkey for Thanksgiving will watch it. My neighbor, heading towards vegetarianism but not sure what to do about Thanksgiving turkey, actually screamed out loud as he watched a worker's boot come down on a turkey's skull. But as Gretchen Wyler used to say, "We must not refuse to see with our eyes, what they must endure with their bodies." We have a moral obligation to make the effort to make informed choices. Turkey free recipes abound! Then adopt a turkey for everyone on your gifting list.

Regardless, Farm Sanctuary is AMAZING, they do a wonderful thing by helping animals who are sick and or left to die. I applaud PEREZ for having the balls to post this.

I think this is an awesome cause Perez! I'm totally gonna adopt one. I didn't realize how closedminded people were until reading some of these comments. I think it's sad that turkeys aswell as other farm animals have to suffer and live horrible lives just so people can have a satisfying meal. I couldn't bring my self to eat the dead carcus of a once breathing animal. (=

Yea Perez! I used to work at Farm Sanctuary and it is a great organization. If everyone knew what animals go through before they reach the supermarket, veganism wouldn't be considered all that strange.
