Florida Judge Overturns Gay Adoption Ban

Kudos to Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Cindy Lederman for standing up for equality for all!
On Tuesday, Judge Lederman ruled against a Florida law banning adoptions of children by gay people.
Floridian Martin Gill came before her to fight for the right to adopt two young brothers he has cared for as foster children since 2004.
She ruled in Mr. Gill's favor and stated that there was "no rational basis" for prohibiting gays from adopting children.
Florida has one of the strictest bans on gay adoptions in the country.
Attorneys for the state said they would appeal Judge Lederman's ruling.
The AP reports that the appeal will ultimately decide what happens to the state ban in place since 1977.
Floridians for equal rights, put pressure on your state lawmakers to once and for all overturn the ban on gay adoption!!!!!!

Yawn. This whole "every child needs a mother and a father" nonsense… Every child needs LOVE, plain and simple. What about all those kids out there who are part of any sort of non-traditional family or have single parents? Should their children be taken away from them? Look. I was raised by a single mom. I turned out great. A child doesn't need two parents to grow up well, or a mother AND a father. As long as they have a positive role model of the opposite sex in their life at all, like a family member or a family friend or something else, they'll be fine. I didn't even have that until I was an adult and again, I turned out fine. So enough of this rediculousness. Kids are going to be made fun of anyway, for being nerdy or for wearing glasses or for anything else so this isn't going to give them any life experience they wouldn't have had otherwise. Any kid should be so lucky if they end up with two parents, nonetheless two that love them and care for them enough to want to adopt them. There are millions of orphans out there who need homes and there aren't enough people giving them those opportunities. I'm REALLY proud of my state. And even prouder that more kids will have a chance at a real home life.

Supreme court judges were to interpret the constition, State judges are to interpret state laws. This judge interpreted this law as being faulty as there was no basis for it. i.e. if she allowed this law to stand, somebody else could then take that precedent and try to pass a law that said "Hispanics can't adopt", or "Polish people can't get drivers permits". But then again Paul, you aren't really interested in the courts are you, you just hate gays and would be perfectly happy if a judge interpreted a pro-gay law out of existance wouldn't you?

What makes a gay person less suited to be a parent than anyone else? There are a lot of people, or shall I say heterosexual people in the world that has no business being parents. I find it disturbing that people rather keep children in the foster care system as oppose to allowing them to be taken into the loving homes of gay couples.

Why is it that people assume only gay men are pedophiles? There are PLENTY of disgusting heterosexual men who prey on little girls, too. A child who is raised singly by their biological father or singly my their biological mother is different from an unbiological child being raised by a same sex couples
not only will the child have questions about how he was conceived, he will have to live his life not knowing where he came from and it's more obvious he isn't the product of the same sex couple he is raised by. He will have to live with being teased because not only does he not have a mother in his life, he doesn't have anyone who looks like him to identify with. Men and Women procreate to have children. I wish people would stop saying that a child is better raised in a loving home then no home at all. How do we know his foster parents didn't care for him.

While I understand that there are those who take exception to gay adoptions on MORAL grounds (either you don't agree that homosexuality is normal/natural/moral) , LEGALLY speaking, how can you deny a person the right to adopt a child based solely on the fact that they are participating in something that is not illegal? Personally, I believe that Mormons are morally wrong, and that their beliefs are incorrect, and there are a lot of people who feel that way. But does that mean that Mormons should not be allowed to adopt children solely because they are Mormon? No, it doesn't. That would be discriminatory, would it not?

Also are you saying that these kids will be better off in an orphanage or foster homes being shuttled around every few years and being split up from their sibilings. Judges should only overturn laws that violate the constitution. I don't care where anyone stands on issues like gay adoption and marriage, but judges don't have the right to simply change votes and policies. All of these gay issues are abusing the job of the the courts.

Yeah a black kid with two nerdy gay white fathers, he wont have any problems. And yes it is unfair to be a child with no parents in the first place then when he has the opportunity to be adopted,but hes outted one half of what he deserves. But if they are foster parents, then maybe he still has a chance for a more comfortable living situation. As a heterosexual female (and my husband will happily confirm that), I do believe in equal rights for gays and lesbians. In my own PERSONAL opinion (for the ignorant morons out there), I believe that in some instances they might make better parents, as they will teach their children about tolerance and unconditional love, while heterosexual parents may teach their children ignorance and love when it is convenient. I am not saying that ALL heterosexual parents are bad parents, but let's get real people, you never hear about a gay man shaking it's infant child to death or a lesbian drowning her kids cause she's insane… If this country wants change, then we need to ALL stop judging each other for our differences and use those differences together to make this country what everyone has been made to believe for ages…. that WE ARE THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THIS WORLD!!! By the way, Prop 8 was voted against, mostly because the LDS church spread lies and rumprs about how, oh I don't know, a little thing like a church would lose it tax-exemption status if it refused to marry a homosexual couple. What about a biological father who is gay? Would you deny him being a parent?
What about a biological mother who is gay? Would you deny her being a parent?
What about disabled children? Many are not adopted because they are not perfect. Would they be better off without any parents if the only choice is gay?
What about any baby that only had gay people as prospective parents? Would they be better off without any parents if the only choice is gay?
I believe that the best parents for children are their biological parents if they love each other and the home environment is happy. Now days, that situation is not the norm. Fathers molest their children. Mothers aren’t always good. They sometimes are drug abusers, cold and abusive, or have many other defects. Some realize that it is better to put their children up for adoption rather to raise them themselves. If a child is an orphan or placed up for adoption, it has already been determined that staying with the parents is not an option. There are many circumstances that require different solutions.
