Heroes Creator Apologizes to "Dipshit" Fans
While speaking on a panel at a screenwriting expo earlier this month, Heroes creator Tim Kring called those show fans who don't use DVRs "saps and dipshits".
His comment, unsurprisingly, was broadcast far and wide almost immediately after the words tumbled out of his mouth.
Kring now wants everyone to know he was a bone head and is sorry:
I need to strongly apologize for the slightly mangled quote of mine that is making it’s way around the internet. It was made while trying to explain the rise in DVR and online audience for the show. I was making the point that these platforms now offer a superior way to watch the show (without commercials, with extra content, commentary, at the audience’s convenience, etc.) And went on to say how it’s getting to the point where “watching the show on the air is relegated to the poor saps and dip****s who can’t figure out how to program their DVR’s”. (Or something close to that) It was a boneheaded attempt at being “cute” and making a point. Instead, it turned out to be just plain insulting and stupid. I know now how it sounded, but I truly never meant to suggest anything negative about our audience. No one cares more about the fans than we do at Heroes, and no one appreciates them more than me. We are grateful for whatever way people are finding our show. Now more than ever.
I want to take this opportunity to say that I’m very sorry for this careless, lame remark. The best way to make it up to you is to live up to my promise that the upcoming episodes of the show are fantastic. I think you’ll agree we’re really on a roll and we couldn’t be more excited about the last four episodes of “Villains” and the upcoming volume, “Fugitives”, which we feel will be a huge hit with the audience.

Heroes was and is terrible
The show sucks now, they are stretching so hard for plots that it is starting to resemble lost. the character of clair is ridiculous and unbelievable, people switch from good to bad and back at the drop of a hat. It is all the sign of desperate writers with no direction.
I think the show is better than its ever been….there's more action…more sex….and just plain more stuff going on. I think they've been able to really turn it around.

Heroes is really good, I just think it's up against some stiff competition with other programming like Dancing With The Stars. I plan on catching up with the episodes once I find episode 5 somewhere!

The technology was invented in the 80's and it's called VHS.
It works fine. You fast forward through the commercials and it works great.You don't need a DVR.
He apologized for the bad ending to season 1. Then he apologized for how horrid season 2 was. Now he's sorry for how the new season is going as well as calling the poor people who still watch it "dipshits". This show will not make it to Season 5.

I'm a huge huge fan of this show. I think its brilliant, but like some one else has said, its got some stiff competition. If you'd rather watch 'The Hills' or 'Dancing with the Stars', then by all means. Call me a geek, I don't care. Heroes rocks.

I used to be a massive advocate of Heroes. Now I just feel embarrassed since I've been telling all my friends how good it is. The Show died at Season 2
I watch Heroes every week and I love it. It's probably not for everyone, my husband won't watch it with me, so I have to record it on my DVR and watch it later, but I never miss a week. Yes, it may have fizzled a little last season, but it's SO good this season!! Those who say they "don't watch this crap", should maybe just give it a try. And, no harrybalsac, I'm not a dipshit thank you very much!

i have never watched heros, it's a snoozefest. I dont have a DVR either cuz i'm not a trendy tool and TV doesnt rule my life. I actually go out and live it.
The only reason no one DVR's Heroes is because the show is absolute crap now. The first season was UNBELIEVABLE, the second season was horrific and I somehow sat through that, and I've given up after an episode of the 3rd. They clearly haven't gotten the point that the show went in a totally hideous direction and they didn't do anything to fix it. What a complete disappointment. It will be cancelled after this season.
I agree with Spindoc. But still am a huge Heroes fan. I even got my friends to watch now. Too many cuties to let it go! Does anyone else get sickened by Peter… kill him off! The writers have to get it together….Their plots are all over the place.. and tons of loose ends give the show an unpleasant feel. What happened to Peter's Irish girlfriend that no one cared about? The writers rely on dramatic irony too much….people don't watch Heroes for drama…but for action and superhero powers…. GET ON WITH Kring!.

I used to be a die hard fan. This year it blows chunks… I don't even watch it anymore.
And if they ever kill off Peter, I will have a shitfit. He's the main character people! The very first episode made me cry because Peter says "Do you ever feel like you were meant to do some extraordinary?" And I feel the exact same way. And I agree that now that Dancing with the Stars is almost over that more people will tune in.
not to mention that it's pretty insulting to their advertisers, being as he sounds as if he is encouraging people to tape/DVR the show, thus skipping the commercials! niiiice.

I love Heroes. The second season was lame and they have ruined some of the main characters who have become very stupid. But in this season the show is getting much better again and they are even improving the characters who had become so bad in the last few episodes.
I believe with DVRs you have to pay a monthly fee (some cable companies include dvr service but not ours), but worse you can't record the show and take the recordings somewhere else to watch it. This is a problem for me. I tape shows and watch them with my sister and her kids later, including Heros. My sister's husband is anti-TV unless it's one of the shows he likes. (We don't do it behind his back, but we can enjoy the shows more if we watch when he's not there. They aren't getting a DVR.) I also tape some shows for my elderly parents who aren't tech savvy and I mail or take the tapes when I visit. A vcr is cheaper. I use a dvd player to watch films and shows, but as I don't record stuff to keep forever I don't use a recordable one. (I got netflix and canceled a large part of my cable service to save money. I'm not paying to use a dvr every month.)
I HAVE been watching it - when it first airs (I am SUCH A DIPSH!T!!) I hadn't heard this quote yet - but I am OVERJOYED to hear such a BRILLIANT man thinks so highly of me - sorry - but I have two kids and since I can't be out cokin' it up on Monday nights (school night and all) I waste an hour of my evening watching Heroes….hmmm, that might soon come to an end. (And I DO love the show…. I need MORE of an apology! Maybe a free pop?)

I have watched every episode of Heroes since the beginning and I love the show. I must admit that the beginning of this season started to suck BIG TIME but since has picked back up the way it was originally. The story line was a bit sordid there for a few episodes but now everythings coming back together again. I never get to watch the show during its time slot and usually always watch it DVR style or on NBC.com. I hope the show continues! I'm so sick of all these disgusting TV shows filled with sex and inappropriate behavior for children to see on Cable. Heroes is actually a show that has had I think one sex scene in its entire history and there is no foul language.

I have watched heroes from the beginning, and will continue to watch. There were a few episodes, aired around the time of the writers strike, which were hard to follow….could not quite figure out where the story was going. I think many people find it difficult to follow a plotline unless it is very straight forward, and streaming in nature….but thats where the dvr is soooo handy! The show is fantastic, I cannot wait to watch each episode, and I hope it is not cancelled due to poor ratings! I dont get ratings anyways,,,,with dvrs, tivo, and online viewers, how can u measure how many people watch?? I LOVE HEROES!

Yes, I love season 3 of Heroes. Much better than the first and the 2nd one. A lot of action and yet again a great storyline. Heroes rules!
I know how to use my PVR and I've been thinking of deleting the 6 or 8 episodes of Heroes I have stored up. I frankly don't care about the show anymore because the plot is meandered all over hell's half acre, it has the worst cast of cast bloat in a decade and I just can't work up the enthusiasm to get back into it. So sorry Tim Kring. I can use it, just can't spare the space to wait until I have nothing better to watch to get back into the show. There's too much other good stuff on…
I though season 1 was pretty good, but I got bored. The storylines all meander with no character development and none of the "Heroes" ever does anything truly heroic. They are all wrapped up in their own drama. And if I have to see or hear another "back to where it all began episode" I'm going to go crazy. Show sucks now. I stopped watching. (Even though I'm in love with Zachary Quinto and Milo V.)
I watched until I figured out that Hayden Panettiere wasn't going to get naked - about 45 seconds into the first episode.
I agree with everyone who says that it's not as good as the first season, but it's still much better than most of the other garbage on TV these days.
I watch, eagerly…and I want to be impressed, but I'm not so much.
It still is a good show and I still do watch it although the second season was not all that great, but that writer's strike screwed it up. Still, the show is really interesting right now.

First season rocked, second season was dull - but third season is amazing - actually better than the first! The various loose ends are starting to be pulled together and I like the bouncing back and forwards to the original scenarios and answering why people were there at the time. Only Hiro bores me now - want him to get back to his superpower self, Sylar rules! Love him!!
