Kanye Feeling Less Than Confident

Kanye West says his new album - 808s & Heartbreak - is "great art" and that he doesn't really care about sales.
That's easy for him to say, with a couple best-selling records and awards under his belt…but it's still cute!
Departing from his usual style, Kanye sings on most of the tracks on 808s, and his voice, though still mostly disguised through a vocoder, is raw and open, perhaps revealing a softer, less cocky side of West.
He says, "You know people sometimes don't understand great art when they first hear it, but I am very confident in it. Whether it sells as much as the last one, or way more, I feel like I am just successful in doing something I felt really good about."

despite his thinkin highly of his swagger, i rly respect his art. he has turned out some pretty sick tracks n id loveee loveeee LOVEEE to see him in concert. come down to the M.I.A Kanyeee!!!

Exactly - sales say more about the marketing than the content. Lots of hot sellers are garbarge. And I agree Kanye is a great artist!! I really enjoy watching his evolution.
And someday people will be saying the same about the Jonas Brothers. Perez, you should have reported on their amazing House of Blues AMAs after-party. I am sure you were invited…it was AWESOME.

Perez you piss me off sometimes. It's ok for KANYE to make his own artistic material and acknowledge that he doesn't care if it sells or not but when Kelly Clarkson does it - it's DISASTROUS? Whatever. Kelly's album is better than Kanye's any day.
He is very artistic; I'll give him that. I just thought it was funny of him saying Lil Wayne deserved his AMA award… I totally agreed. Lil Wayne is awesome, fun and a bit gangsta; gotta love that!

Kanye West's music is like that piece of art that is bold, bright and loud and it just hits you in the face and you later find out a five year old kid threw a splash of paint on some white paper. Honestly, does everyone forget he is an artist who reaches millions of people? Do you honestly think the sole purpose of his album was to create art? He's a sell out. He's like the struggling artist on the street creating amazing art then he gets famous and says 'man fuck it I'm gonna do whatever the fuck I want now … because I can'. What is wrong with my generation? How do we end up respecting and admiring somebody like that? C'mon guys, let's get it together!

He has nothing to be concerned about.. it will sell well bc people know his talent, and the singles are both excellent.
As for the disc, most of the album it top notch.. I am sure it all would have been if he didnt have to rush to get it out before every track was leaked on the net for awhile. There is a 2 disc version coming out near Xmas, that I bet will be the 5 star album he was trying to make.
But so many tracks on the album are instant classics, he really just needs to work on the few weaker tracks, towards the end of the cd.. the only song I am skipping totally so far is the one with Wayne, I dunno why everyone is diggin that one, I hate the beat..
He could have easily been gimicy with the singing & vocoder thing, like it is often with Wayne & Tpain doing it– but really it is art the way he pulls it off, its beautiful and moving- you feel the pain of him losing both Alexis & his mother.
I cant stop listening to Robocop & Streetlights on repeat personally.
