Nicole Kidman can't act her way out of a soggy paper bag.
Baz Luhrman's epic Australia apparently has all the fixings for a spectacular tourism commercial - except for one thing: its star.
As one reviewer brilliantly put it, Kidman "drifts around films like a lost porcelain doll, looking frozen, brittle and vapid, staring at the camera with her oh-golly-look-how-I'm-looking-interesting blue eyes" and is "exquisitely accomplished at being awful."
In short, she is "the kiss of death in practically every movie she has starred in."

I like Nicole Kidman… I don't think she's really all that bad of an actress..Just judge the movie for yourself and don't rely on the viewpoint of others.
She is so pretty but she over acts. She is trying so hard to be interesting and compelling that she ends up just as this review describes!

this review is all about nicole and nothing about the movie. i've liked her in everything i've seen her in, especially To Die For. the writer of the article sounds like she just has a hard on for nicole.

I never take in for a second the critic's opinion. I know too many people with so many different opinions from mine, that I only base how good a movie will be on my own opinion. I like Nicole Kidman…I especially like Hugh Jackman…I like Australia…I'll go based on that alone.

I never got what people see in Nicole Kidman. While I appreciate her as a human more than her ex, Tom Cruise, I don't get what the hype is about her beauty. Yeah, sure she's pretty. BUT, she's also very odd looking. Her new hair color is like bordering on being white… it's not red it's not blond it's not white… it's odd. It's very dry and damaged looking. She just seems like an odd celebrity. Anyone agree?????
Oh, and botox or not, she's starting to look VERY old… I think she looks like she's pushing 50.

I think the time of critics is over anyway. At this point, they are just trying to get press because the internet has taken over movie critics.
One critic and your mind is made up? Bring in the body of evidence including how the audiences like it before judging.
And, how about going to see it before judging? After all, you may have quite a different point of view that one critic.
Seen the shorts for "Australia". Nicole is playing an English Lady but unfortunately she comes across as if she's doing a bad impersonation of Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones Diary. I think Kidman is actually a fine 'character' actor - only she's stuck with a Leading Ladies body and face. Her best performances are when she's not playing leading glamour roles, for example Virginia Woolf in "The Hours"

Critics are representing one opinion, their own. What a farce to pay some egomaniac bucks to give an opinion. This movie will succeed, have no doubt. From what I have seen of the clips, it is epic entertainment.

She was great in Cold Mountain. She isn't Renee Zellweger or Meryl Streep but I would say she's really a fine actress and her accents in all English dialects are spot on. Stop hatin!

I've read other reviews which practically say the same thing. Seriously, the woman needs to lay off plastic surgery and botox, because it's ruining her acting. She can't express herself facially anymore and that is death to any actor or actress.
I like to see a movie myself b4 I decide if a movie is good or not. rotten tomatoes says it's fresh at the moment…i think an epic like this is worth seeing on the big screen.
Nicole Kidman was very good in Moulin Rouge, Birthday Girl, The Interpreter, Dead Calm…nobody can truthfully say she's not a good actress.

Days of Thunder was funny, when she lunged at Tom Cruise and said "I wanted to give you a thorough physical." I don't think it was meant to be funny, but it was certainly entertaining. Give the girl a chance.

She only got the Oscar because they felt sorry for her because Tom dumped her nasty bony ass. The review I read for Australia said they could have dressed a plank of wood in kakhi and it would have given the same peformance as Kidman. I think the wood would have shown a bit more chemistry with Hugh though.
