The Great White Way Goes Green

This is great news for Broadway!
New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has launched the "Broadway Goes Green" initiative.
Que es eso, you ask???
The plan is to reduce Broadway's carbon footprint, which measures just how much greenhouse gases they produce.
Ten Broadway theaters have already started helping out! As of today, they've already replaced about 10,000 light bulbs with more energy-efficient ones.
Bloomberg said, "By this time next year, the lights on Broadway will burn just as bright, but the energy bills and our city's carbon output will be lower."
Looks like a win-win situation.
He added, "This commitment will raise the level of awareness for everyone involved in these shows including the audiences and that's going to have an impact that reverberates far beyond the Big Apple."
Aside from changing the bulbs, the theaters will try to use environmentally friendly items, such as environmentally friendly materials to build scenery sets. They'll also recycle and reuse props.
The theaters will use rechargeable batteries in equipment when possible and they're even going to wash costumes in cold water.
The environment will benefit and so will their pocket books.
Now if only more people started seeing Broadway shows again!

While I am all in favor of green efforts, don't KID yourself on whether or not this will "save the planet". Carl Sagan said something to the effect that it was the ultimate human hubris to think that WE could destroy the planet. We'll die, but the planet will heal itself without us. And we are only one big volcanic eruption (say the Yellowstone calderra blows up) from being extinct anyway. I like clean water as much as you do- but we should do it just because it is a good idea. Volcanoes vent more air pollution than cars or coal. I'm not washing in cold water- clothes OR me. And btw, the detergent you use is much worse than the hot water you take.
This guy is insane he voted himself in for a 3rd term as Mayor of NYC and that was going above what the people of NYC voted for which is 2 terms and the counsel voted for it because it also gave them a job of another term…What a Racket and he should LAUNCH himself out of office and the Citizens of New York should petition the city of how dame unfair this is and and get this egomaniac ousted and if Bloomberg thinks he's the only one that can help NYC out in this financial crisis (his reason for being elected a 3rd term) then let someone else have his shot at being mayor and then Bloomberg can be the NEW mayors financial adviser.
