Blame The Internets

A new study predicts that many cities may soon be without a local newspaper next year and in 2010 - as many papers go out of business, sadly.

Speaking of…..

The Chicago Tribune has just laid off a dozen newsroom employees this week.

This past year alone, they've let go of 180 workers!

i hate to bring this to your attention, but where would YOU be if everyone read the newspaper instead of the internet?

  9. 9

I know that sounds bad, but in reality newspapers have been steadily going downhill since the invent of the internet. People are reading more and more online. This is nothing new or surprising.

Maybe because people don’t want to read Liberal Biased Bull Crap?!?!?!?!

  13. 13

Indianapolis Star laid off 52 people today. =(
    .
Sho - I had to comment about your liberal biased comment, as more than a few comments on the IndyStar website thought that it is seeing less readership because they continually bad-mouthed Obama. They hedged their bets and wouldn't stand behind either Presidental candidate (Indiana is an almost-always-red-state, but Obama won!). Readers also pointed out that the paper is all doom and gloom … they report that sales were strong for Black Friday, but hedge that bet by saying it must be a bad thing. People are sick of the paper not taking a real stand on anything.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with bias reporting and personal agendas….

  17. 17

    Well the tress are happy.
    I haven't bought a paper in like 10 years.

  18. 18

    doh
    I meant trees.
Unless they started making newspapers out of hair hehe.

I've been in the printing industry for over 20 years and another factor in these layoffs stems from technology reducing the amount of jobs that computer and machine's can now do. But, true it is mainly the internet.
