Heath Ledger Wins Big Aussie Acting Award
Is an Oscar next?
The late Heath Ledger was awarded the Australian Film Institute's international award for best actor, one of Oz's most prestigious film awards, yesterday, Saturday, for his portrayal of the Joker in the The Dark Knight.
Heath's sister, Kate, was at the ceremony to collect the award.
Fighting back tears, Kate said, "It has been without a doubt the most difficult year, losing such a loved family member. We are so proud of him and humbly accept this award on behalf of his beautiful daughter [Matilda], whom we will cherish forever."

Only two more days until Dark Knight is out!! Ledger totally deserves the award, I will admit I saw that movie 8 times, each time thinking how hard was it for him to go from having such a strong Australian accent with his normal speaking voice to the dialect of the Joker in the movie. Incredible!!! I'm most likely going to wear out my Dark Knight DVD.
He deserves it! Such a talent… He will be missed =(

i saw that batman movie & it was creepy his acting was awsome. he deserves all the awards..

Jack Nicholson as the Joker was incredible. He was incredible as the Joker……then Heath came along, now the Joker is not a "joker"……The Joker is dark, macabre, and sooooooo soooooo mesmerizing…. 3 weeks after that movie came out, I waited in line an hour w/my hubby for the opportunity to see it in IMAX…..IT BLEW MY MIND…..
Heath took a role, that was stamped to perfection by a veteran hollywood actor….and was not daunted by his task….he took the Joker to a whole, different new level and left the audiences shaking their heads at his
AWESOMENESS….

The "Australian Film Industry" awards are a complete joke.
Lots of people handing out statues to lots of other people, FOR MOVIES NO ONE HAS ANY INTEREST IN SEEING!
The "Movie of the Year" grossed about $22!

oscar? seriously, i cant understand why you think he should win that.. he did lots of drugs, ODed, etc.. i feel very sorry for the family that are left, i really do. but i dont think Heath should win an oscar just because he died. the film wasnt THAT good, he shouldve won the oscar for Brokeback Mountain. now THATS acting. that was really good. but what signal do you give young people if you let him win an oscar now? if you take lots of drugs and die, you will win something? hmm
I like Heath Ledger but in this picture he looks like Anna Nicole Smith when her face was painted like a clown.

He had an amazing performance and showed that he can be a good actor but i don't think of him as Oscar material… sad that he died but even sadder where the circumstances of his death… i feel sorry for the ones who glorify him cause he died on his own terms and there's nothing brave or dign in that.
