Milk Named Best Film By New York Film Critics Circle

Another day, another round of awards announced.
Milk is this year's NY Critics Awards darling!
It snagged three year-end awards, including best film. Its star, Sean Penn, was named best actor by voters and his co-star, Josh Brolin, won the best supporting actor award.

Yeah, they said the same thing about Brokeback Mountain and look what happened. When a movie is made with any gay theme, it gets rave reviews and must get the Best Picture Academy Award. Horsesit.
4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 days is easily one of the most traumatic movie experiences one could ever imagine! Glad to see it won!
I can remember when the events depicted in this movie went down. I'm thrilled that we have come far enough for a movie to be made, and celebrated, about those humble times.

Gus Van Sant is an amazing director, but he doesn't exactly have his finger on the pulse of America.
Harvey Milk was little-known before his murder, and still isn't a household name.
While I haven't seen this flick yet, "Good Will Hunting" and especially "Drugstore Cowboy" were both wonderful movies. But a biopic about a glorfied politician is gonna be a harder sell.
I FUCKIN HATE SEAN PENN
This is easily the best film I've seen all year. All of the performances are amazing!! All of them. The direction is superb. I don't understand how a film can win Best Picture and not Best Director? I've never been a huge Gus Van Sant fan, he's been kind of hit or miss for me. But this was a HIT. Great film. For me the film was more about civil rights for all citizens…whether they be gay, female, or of color. It's a strong reminder of how far we come but also how far we still have to go. It's sad how much the events in this film mirror the recent events after the passing of Prop 8.
WHY DON'T THEY SHOW THIS FILM IN MY CONSERVATIVE TOWN? I HATE MY RICH PREPPY TOWN. FUCK THEM! MAYBE I NEED TO TAKE A ROAD TRIP TO A REAL CITY LIKE NYC.

Can't wait til Milk opens here. Sean Penn is always great. But…also noticed that Best Screenplay went to Jenny Lumet who wrote Rachel Getting Married. This movie is an acquired taste but so far (and I'm a devoted moviegoer)…RGM was one of the year's best. Very interesting with an unusual ending.
