Wife Of Learjet Crash Victim Sues Aviation Companies And Pilots' Estates
Otilia Villar Baker - whose husband, Chris Baker, died in the September 19th North Carolina plane crash that killed 3 others and left musicians Travis Barker and DJ AM severely burned - is suing several aviation companies and the deceased pilots' estates.
The suit is on her son's behalf as well.
The lawsuit was filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging negligence and wrongful death, and seeking damages for how Chris Baker suffered before his death, loss of earnings, companionship, repayment of funeral, and other costs.
Travis sued some of the same companies - Clay Lacy Aviation, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Bombardier Inc., Global Exec Aviation and Inter Travel & Services - last month, and while he faulted the pilots, he did not include their estates.
In response to Travis' suit, a representative of Clay Lacy said the company merely brokered the doomed flight, while a Goodyear spokesman said the suit was premature because an NTSB investigation is not yet complete. Bombardier said it does not respond to pending lawsuits.
Representatives for the other companies could not be reached for comment.

Why would she sue the deal pilots estates? If it was a technical malfunction, there wouldn't have been anything they could have done.

she's not money grubbing. the only way to get insurance money for your loss (to cover funeral expenses, perhaps!?) is to sue the pilot. the pilot's aviation insurance will pay out to victims' estates. she's not money grubbing, she's trying to recoup some monetary loss incurred as a result of the crash. there's no amount of money to bring a loved one back - she's just trying to get help in paying for the funeral and things like that.
It was an accident! Shit happens in life. I hope she loses her suit…and I hope Travis Barker loses his too. I think less of him for suing the "pilot's Estate" AKA the poor family of the pilots. They have suffered a loss just as much as anyone else on that plane. I hate how litigious society has become. Disgusting really…..

Why did Travis barker have to sue all of the companies? IDIOT, the chances of every company having a faulty product and causing the crash is slim to none, if he were FUCKING SUCCESSFUL he wouldn't be suing for all that, it was an accident. No…This is getting ridiculous, I feel for the families but when they offer no compassion to anyone but themselves in this situation, it makes it hard to be on their side.
While this woman may need money for certain expenses suing the pilots' estates is a little out there. They have families, who are grieving and I'm sure feel bad about the whole situation. Do they really need this? They also have to pay expenses so what are they going to do?

I get suing the tire company and maybe the aviation company….but the estates of the pilots?? is she insane?? They lost their lives too! And why not wait to see if the pilots are even at fault first??? All it looks like now…is that she is after money…and that is sad.

They have insurance for that sort of thing, and I guarantee it is more than the pilots are going to have. That should go to their own families. AND I love how she throws in that the lawsuit is on behalf of her "SON TOO". As if the pilots have no families. Is she retarded?
Should this woman not be looking to Travis Barker for compensation? Is it not his fault that her beloved Chris was put in this situation, being a servant to such an undeserving soul? Barker was given the gift of life, he should be supporting the family of his dear friend, she should not have to look to the pilots families for compensation! Re: britters886 – i just know that when i lost my grandfather in a private plane crash, the only way that we could do anything with regard to money was to sue the pilot's estate. we did it with the blessings of his family and they understood that it was the only way to compensate our family for the funeral expenses and arrangements. there was no other way - the plane in his accident malfunctioned causing the crash - the pilot was not at fault, the plane manufacturer (will remain nameless) was found to be at fault. i empathize with her situation and wish people knew a bit more about things before they attacked her.
So these pilots die while doing their jobs, and these blood-sucking ghoul and vultures honor them and their families by suing them. Ms Baker is a twat.
