Heath Snubbed
Filed under: Australiastic > Heath Ledger
Earlier this year, the former Western Australia Premier, Alan Carpenter, announced that a new drama venue would be built and named in tribute to the late Aussie actor, Heath Ledger.
Carpenter was even joined back then by Heath's dad at the construction ceremony of the $87 million center and Kim Ledger told reporters his son would have been proud to have "his name" on it.
However, that's no longer the case.
The new Premier, Colin Barnet, probably not a Ledger fan, has just announced that the naming has been overturned in favor of a more "diverse title."
Barnett confirmed the venue will now be called the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia.
He did state that inside the new centre, the 575-seat theatre would still be named after Heath.
Australia's Culture and Arts Minister John Day added that "A great deal of consideration has been given to the name of the venue and this has involved consultation with the Ledger family, which is pleased Heath is being acknowledged in this way, and a range of stakeholders. The name, State Theatre Centre, strongly identifies the venue as a place of civic pride for all Western Australians and will be a venue where audiences can enjoy high-quality performing arts by local, national and international artists."
What do U think?
Just like politicians, say one thing and do another!

Fuck Politicians!!!!!!
I love Heath!!!
He took too many drugs and accidentally died. He wasn't a war hero or anything. The situation is tragic and heartbreaking, but since when does an accidental overdose make you a saint, or make you worthy of ANYTHING being named after you? He is lucky he got the theater.
I think that they souldn't put his name everywhere just b’cause he died…Perez, why don't u kill urself 2morrow??…I want to see ur name on the toilet paper
That's messed up. How can you say something like that, make it public knowledge… and then take it back? That's just ridiculous, to say the least.
Sounds appropriate. Great artist lost.
He thought Heath should played the " Catcher" instead of the " Pitcher " in Brokeback Mt.
Oh well, Heath will be remembered even if they don't name the centre after him…
In the end, no matter how talented Ledger was, he was simply another troubled individual who allowed drugs to get the best of them. Sad, but true.
That's fucked up. I love Heath!
Re: Sweetpiece says Deck the Halls! – Adorable avi, SP!!
state theatre civic. how fuckin' creative.
ah, heath won't mind. he's dead.
Why would you put the name of a known drug addict on anything. Look people this joker killed himself by taking too many drugs. No doctor prescribes you oxycodone & hydrocodone unless you lie or are doctor shopping. Get over it this guy committed suicide and he does not deserve to have his name on anything. What a loser
It's not like the same guy said one thing then did another — one guy said one thing, then the new guy changed it. Big deal. He died from drugs, but still gets his name on something. I loved the guy, but I doubt he'd want people to look at all of his lofe and think "What a role model!"
I don't think Heath would care…..
Re: Charmer – Why thank you Charmer!
C'mon already, is PH chiseling these comments onto stone??? This thing is S-L-O-W . . . or is it just me on a Monday a.m.?!
Re: njpaul0129 – I thought you said you weren't coming around any more? Why are you here? Curious.
Just because he played a Queerathexual in a movie you think he is a god. In reality he was a strung out druggie who overdosed.
Re: Sweetpiece says Deck the Halls! – I never said that you Burger King working loser
At least this de-mystifies the message that all you have to do is O.D.—and you get a theatre or foundation named after you.
Maybe naming rehab centers after naughty celebs woud be more appropriate.
He will always be remembered! He was a very good actor. Hi Sweetpiece!
And, all!
Good. Only a druggie would accidentally OD. Great actor, but that doesn't change the fact that he was an idiot.
Carpenter was a big mouthed idiot who always spoke too soon, it is better that the centre is named for all Western Australians and Heath will have his parts inside, we the state are very happy with this and you don't really have a right to an opinion in this matter, we don't need you sticking your two bits of rubbish in and making trouble, Kim and the family are happy and that is what is important! Heath wasn't a showy guy, he was more understated and would be embarrassed by all this fuss - let him rest Perez, just let him rest…..
He died of a drug overdose. Let's put Anna Nicole's name on some structure here in Hollywood…same thing if you ask me.
Not cool.
Re: njpaul0129 – What you have an impostor now? You told Perez off and said you would never come back. I had my hopes up. No offense. And how do you know I work at Burger King? Are you stalking me?
Re: duckyhead – I was going to write something like that but i guess you said it all… i don't know what's the fascination with this guy, it's not like he put Australia in the map or did something worth to remember him for… he died on a drug overdose… he was not a fan of paparazzis and it was very rare to see pics of him out, he was very low profile… i don't know why now they need to inflate him.
he was an actor who died to early but he didnt cure cancer shit jus name a chair after him and move on
Dumbasses, they had a change of Premier so it's not like it was one guy saying it then taking it back. I really like Heath and his death was a tragedy, but I think a theatre not a building is more appropriate.
Enough idolizing the dead. Perhaps the corporation financing the construction of the theatre should name the place. In five years (or less), no one will remember who HL was. Let the dearly departed rest…stop the insanity. He was an actor who did not know how to mix his medications. Perhaps the theatre could be named after another Austrailian who actually did a lot for their country.
frugal lady dot com
So what. The guy died of overdosing himself FF why name buildings after him.He was a flawed being , a run away husband and father, and an actor- not anyone "important" in life per se. Contributed nothing much to humanity in end.
they had better do everything they can to honor his memory!!!! he was such a legend! Im still not over it and never will be!
Heathy was pretty popular in Australia, he was born & raised there. I think it's only right to have a memorial for him in Australia. I don't care what any of you say; Heath was a phenomenal actor and he will be greatly missed. I am a huuuuge fan of his, and I'm still not sure about his death. Yes, he's my favorite actor, but there's part of me that still believes he might've commited suicide. Idk, maybe not. Anyways, Heath Ledger deserves the memorial. Forrrr sureeee
Re: Phew!!! – Biiiiitttttccccchhhhh. First of all, he was never married. Secondly, how the fuck was he a run-away?! Michelle and Heath broke up. Same thing as a married couple with kids getting divorced, he still saw Matilda. It's not like he never saw his daughter. He was always talking about how much he loved Matilda. Seriously, you don't know what you're talking about. I hate people like you D:
