Queen Elizabeth Cuts Back

Not even Queen Elizabeth II can escape the recession!
Keeping "in touch" with her people, the Queen has scaled back on expenses and extravagances, and she has encouraged the royal family to do likewise, especially grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry.
Part of her penny-saving methods include turning off the lights in vacant rooms of Buckingham Palace and re-using leftovers from banquets. During October's state visit to Slovakia and Slovenia, the queen had dressmakers use fabric she received 20 years ago, instead of buying new material. She has also re-used dresses for public appearances - a practice formerly unheard of.
As a whole, yearly royal expenditure has dropped from 87.3 million pounds in 1991-1992 to 40 million pounds in 2007-2008.
Traditionally mum on political opinions, the queen expressed her shock at the world's current economic situations on a visit to the London School of Economics, asking, "Why did nobody notice it?"
People noticed it, but no one wanted to call a spade a spade!

Queen Elizabeth is the wealthiest private individual in the UK (although there are rumours that JK Rowling may have nudged past her) and yet the entire Royal family accepts various "salaries" from the government for being the Duke of This or the Baroness of That. They should be entirely self-funded - it isn't as if they cannot afford it - their excuse??? The Royal family and all their palaces are still a tourist drawcard for London ergo the payoff.
I wouldn't mind being told I only had 40 MILLION POUND (about $80M US) for the year - dear me, I'd be able to buy frette eva bedsets for everyone - hey Milky (o: U know I say it with loooove for the cow.

The Queen has always recycled her clothes - she has always been a frugal person actually (relatively speaking of course - she is one rich mamma). I like her - and we are stuck with her and her family - the thought of a president instead of royalty makes me shudder!!!
