PETA has just named Leona Lewis their Person of the Year. The talented singer gave up meat when she was just 12 years-old!
She is also an active anti-animal cruelty campaigner and refuses to wear fur and leather.
So, taking the spot from Stella McCartney last year, Leona is 2008's person of the year and we think it's well deserved.
The Europe Director for PETA, Robbie LeBlanc, said "Leona Lewis is admired for her beautiful voice, but it's her kindness to animals that makes her a superstar in our book."
And not even money will change her.
Just earlier this year, she turned down $1.5 million from luxury London retailer Harrods to open its summer sale. Harrods remains the only U.K. department store to still stock fur.

There are far better groups than PETA. PETA is constantly in trouble for killing the animals they have rather than finding them homes. They find and average of less than 1% of their animals home while the SPCA finds around 65%. PETA is bullshit.

I love animals too, but i'm not an extremist. Our bodies were designed to eat meat (not every meal… but at least 2 meals of white meat and one of red per week), and we have relied on animal skins to keep us warm for thousands of years (granted we dont require these anymore so I personally choose not to wear them).
I might also add that they have lied in the past and mislead those in their ranks into thinking practices to help animals were actually harming them.
To simply deny our dependence on animals and pick on those who make different life choices makes groups like PETA repulsive. Everytime I hear that they have singled out a celebrity and trash talked them, I go and buy something nice and meaty when i normally wouldnt have… they cause more harm than they do good.
