Bringing Musicals Back To TV

Trying to bring a musical series to television hasn't really worked before.

Just ask Rosie O'Donnell.

But, we guess Fox has some higher hopes.

The network is making a musical comedy for prime-time TV.

Fox said this week it ordered 13 episodes of Glee.

Basically it's a scripted series about a high school teacher who's trying to make the glee club "into a national power."

As for the characters, those will include the ever so typical "diva-in-training, a nerdy soprano and a quarterback who tries to stay cool while singing."

As for the amount of music per episode, at least three complete musical numbers will be performed in each show.

The show is set to appear sometime in 2009.

Wonder what Disney is thinking about this high school musical rip-off!

yeah I saw this in the 80's when it was called "FAME" the series. I'm guessing this won't be as good as that.

I have a feeling that the whole "teen musical" genre is dying out, if not already dead. It climaxed with HSM-3.

  15. 15

Oh Perez… HSM was a rip off of Grease, and Glee will probably be more of a rip off of Fame. There's no such thing as a new idea!

Um i love the high musical movies, but constant singing in a tv show? Now, that's something I can't handle.

The show will star Matthew Morrison, an accomplished musical theatre star from several Broadway productions. With his looks and talent this show starts with a definite edge.
