Details On Obama's Inauguration

As we mentioned earlier, Barack Obama chose a prominent homophobic evangelical minister to deliver the invocation next month at his inauguration.
That decision, obviously, is drawing a lot of criticism from the gay community as the chosen Reverend Rick Warren was a prominent supporter of Yes on Prop H8te to ban gay marriages in California.
But, aside from having a known gay hater, we now have some more news about Obama's inauguration festivities.
The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, will be singing at the event on January 20th.
The San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus will also be performing, along with Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Gabriela Montero, violinist Itzhak Perlman, and a few other musicians.
The chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, said the day would be "an event of historic proportion. It is appropriate that the program will include some of the world's most gifted artists from a wide range of backgrounds and genres."
We wonder if Obama will have any gay musicians or artists perform during his big day?
At least a few gay artists, or even ONE prominent one would be some movement forward.
Also on hand will be over 11,000 US troops, with 4,000 local police, and 4,000 police from around the country, along with several security agents from different government agencies.
The main goal will be to keep the peace and protect the soon to be President when he swears in.

We must be held accountable to our own argument by including everyone in this nation's political process. By asking Rick Warren to speak at the Inaguration, I believe Obama is holding true to his change credo by inviting public figures - whose views don't necessarily coincide with his - to stand at his side. "Hangin' out" only with people who support your ideologies was the hallmark of the Bush administration. I hope that such shows of unity and respect will help this nation to move forward and eventually embrace the rights of all people.

Face the facts, Prez. You can talk about gay rights till you are blue in the face. It may even be legalized in states. But people will never in a million years accept it. Homosexuality is nothing new. It has been around since the beginning of time. It is completely unnatural for people of the same sex to be exclusively attracted to one another. There is a difference between people who are "experiementing" around and those who are truely only attracted to people of the same sex. That is a malfunction of nature. No, you are not the same. That percentage is less than the amount that identify with being Mormon, for example. So what you're saying is similar to "If Obama says he doesn't identify or agree with the Mormon ideology, he better get a Mormon to perform at his inauguration!"

Marriage is a civil right that is not now and has never been dependent upon any one religion or even religion in general for its justification, existence, or perpetuation. Marriage exists because people desire it and the community, working through the government, helps ensure that married couples are able to do what they need to in order to survive. Clearly "the gays" haven't been tuning into anything with politics. Prop 8 passed, people don't want gay marriage, and neither McCain nor Obama's campaigns supported any LGBT issues. Why is this even under discussion? Political leaders still want to pretend gays don't exist. Frankly, they're a tiny minority of the population so it really doesn't matter what they want. This isn't a civil rights movement, where blacks take up over 15% of the pop. or women, who now take up 51% of the pop., the gays are a tiny tiny minority.
Obama and Biden said they were against gay marriage before the election. Why are gays surprised by this? So why is Warren considered a gay hater and Obama and Biden are not?
Re: asscrack – Marriage was invented by religious leaders and up until recently you couldn't get married unless a religious leader performed the marriage. Therefore, marriage is 110% a religious union. Anyone can be in a relationship, can live with a person for decades in a monogamous union and have kids and own things together, but religion created the idea of a man owning a woman, known as marriage.
I think a lot of you are missing the point in his choice on picking this "preacher". So quickly are those who say that they supported Obama to now say they are against him. I voted for Obama and am pro life, pro gay and I was married in a Catholic church. Obama is looking at the bigger picture while many aren't. He wants to bring this country together! also, as someone whose best friend is a republican lesbian from MA, the very day MA passed gay marriage, 13 states banned gay marriage. Although equal rights and opporuntity are the goal, there is very much to be reckoned from, "patience is a virtue". Prop 8 may have passed, butmaybe it was too soon. Afterall, african americans had been fighting for decades to acheive what they have and they still need to fight, so to the GLBT community, PATIENCE!

Also, Rick Warren, who has written quite a few very popular books and the head paster of one of the largest churches in America, has chosen not to change his standard of living since he first started Saddleback Church, instead he gives that money back to ministry. I'm not a fan of Warren's. I'd far rather see Billy Graham - who is noted for historically being comfortable on both sides of the aisle (he is very aged now and ill - the world will lose a real jewel when Billy goes to his reward). But he can't do it, so Warren will. Get over it.
I do agree with your last line - if any of you do pray, please pray for our next President. For wisdom for him, and for his safety. I know first hand about what sick monsters can do to other humans. So please do pray for will-be President Obama.
