Taylor Speaks! To Meet With New Moon Director
Who's in and who's out?
In the revolving-door world of Twilight's sequel, New Moon, it could be anyone's guess!
After director Catherine Hardwicke was switched out for Chris Weitz, the next role up for grabs is that of Jacob, the primary love interest in the sequel.
Rumors were buzzing that Twilight's Taylor Lautner would but cut from the cast because (producers) Summit was looking for someone bigger and hunkier, someone like Michael Copon, to play the older Jacob Black.
Both actors are campaigning hard for the role, but no one has been confirmed yet.
In an MTV interview, Taylor says he's been working out since production on Twilight wrapped, putting on 19lbs and promising an additional 10lbs when filming beginings in 3 months, and wants to put to rest rumors that his agent has reached out to the special effects team of Benjamin Button to digitally enhance the 16-year-old's physique.
He adds, "As far as I know, I haven't been told 'no' yet, so it's still all up in the air."
It seems that Lautner is the fan favorite as well, with online polls and petitions showing overwhelming support for his return, for which Taylor says he's grateful.
In a new interview, Michael Copon is likewise hesitant to commit to anything and likewise puts to rest the Facebook campaign rumors, saying that the profile was a fake and has been since shut down.
But he does say that he feels the role is "perfect" for him and that he'd be "honored" to play the part!
They have 12 more weeks to figure it out!

K,,,,,first of all,,,,Taylor is such a little hottie!!! And he plays a good Jacob Black and sort of looks Native! But the the thing that pisses me off the most is that,,,,,either of them is actually NATIVE AMERICAN!!!! Sure they used a few real native american's,,,,,but why won't they use one for Jacob Black? I mean c'mon if you were to look hard enough you would find an amazing looking native guy to play him. Our people are so beautiful,,,both men and woman. Seriously,,,,it makes me mad when hollywood does this! Perez you should seriously write a blog about this,,,,I'm sure if they had an "open casting" for only native people they would find thier Jacob Black and other native american characters in the story! There are LOTS of talented natives in Winnipeg Manitoba, Toronto Ontario, North and South Dakotas, they just need to LOOK! They should seriously look in these places for their native characters! i think taylor did a great job in the first movie, but for all you guys kissing his ass to get in the sequel are CRAZY. maybe taylor can stick around for like, the first 20 minutes, but once jacob starts changing into a wolf, his human form grows to be 6'7 tall! It's not even just height (which btw, they can only do so much without looking cheesy. special effects are expensive and yeah, they made a lot of money, but i'd honestly like to see that money being invested in the actual WEREWOLVES, not adjusting a characters height.) it's about the fact that jacob needs to be PHYSICALLY the age of about 25. sorry taylor enthusiasts, but not only is her too short, he's just TOO YOUNG. sure he's the right age, but he needs to LOOK older than he is.
michael copon isn't such a bad choice. he looks like he could be an older taylor, at least they weren't completely off in the looks department. also he's not latino. he's half filipino half german. taylor is french, dutch, german and has SOME native american in him, but it's not alot. honestly, without the wig he does NOT look native american either and in much of the second book jacobs hair is short. he doesn't start growing in back out until like, the end of eclipse.

Taylor IS Jacob Black!
It'd be totally wrong if Summit chose to replace him now. I think there is all kinds of movie-magic ways to get around the size thing. I think Summit needs to keep Taylor and not take the easy way out (for THEM).
If he is replaced, they will lose a lot of viewership for New Moon with people boycotting it in support of Taylor! First, Catherine isn't doing New Moon, but if they replace Taylor too, they might lose some of their much-needed fanbase.
The ONLY character that needs to be recast is Rosalie!!!!!!!!!!!

he played the role he had in twilight so well. if they switch actors it will ruin everything. there is nothing worse with sequals with different characters. He was cast as jacob for a reason and he nailed his part and doesn't deserve to be replaced at all.

First things first, Copon isn't Native American. That's already a red flag. Jacob Black IS a Native American, you don't cast someone to play a Native who isn't a Native. Taylor really is the perfect Jacob. It would be a complete disaster if they dont keep him. So to whoever is making the decision, make the right one and choose Taylor.

how does michael know that the role is perfect for him? for goodness sake, he's just read the cliffs notes on the books! furthermore, he is criticizing taylor by saying that he didn't do a good job of jacob in twilight! at least taylor has read the books, so it would make sense that taylor said that, but not michael. so i'm curious to know what michael thinks he could bring to jacob black that taylor didn't in twilight. in twilight, jacob only comes onto the screen about 4 times, but to be honest, taylor did it perfectly. and from what i've seen, michael doesn't even touch on taylor's acting ability.
so, guessing from my ranting, i choose taylor.

I don't know if it's because the movie felt so grass roots, but I really felt Taylor embodied the written version of Jacob Black. I was hesitant to see the film, because as with most books you read, the films are often disappointing. And truthfully, as Perez has reported, much of the film was a disappointment. Despite the ever-emo Bella and the horrible directing choices (ummm, like when she left the book she bought in Port Angeles and her purse in Edward's car after he left her at the police station), the movie did have some great moments and positive highlights. The authenticity of Taylor's acting was one of those highlights, at least for me. Having gone to school for acting and now working on an MA in film, I feel like I am somewhat credible in my opinion. He was honest, sincere, lovable, and attractive in that "I shouldn't think he is attractive because he is so young" way. lol. I think he would do a great job in New Moon, as indicated in the prom scene, when you saw that hint of territorialism within him right before Edward says, "I'll take it from here." I feel like changing him at this point would lead to even more instability. One of the things I have been excited about when thinking about "New Moon" is seeing him in this role……I hope they don't change actors, especially for political reasons……I vote Taylor. Yay!

i believe that taylor lautner should be given a chance in new moon..he is already proving that he is the ultimate choice for jacob black by committing himself even further by gaining more muscle mass in order to portray the bigger werewolf jacob. and he was already jacob in the first movie so a lot of us will be disappointed if he is replaced. michael whatever his name is a jerk and extremely cocky, and that was proven by a recent interview in j-14. I will be pretty pissed if they replace taylor. I think he really fits the part of jacob he is sweet out going and I think he could adapt to what jacob becomes in New Moon. Team Taylor
