BSB's Son Diagnosed With Kawasaki Disease
Filed under: Sad Sad
Brian Litrell from the Backstreet Boys informed his fans over the weekend that his young son was sick and had been hospitalized for some time.
No reason was given as to the illness, but Baylee Litrell was finally released from the hospital on Saturday.
And Brian and his wife are now speaking out publicly about the youngster's illness.
According to the Litrell's, Baylee was diagnosed with A-Typical Kawasaki Disease.
Update on Baylee
On Saturday December 20, 2008, Baylee T W Littrell was released from Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta. Before being admitted Baylee had been treated for or thought to have had strep throat, hand, foot, mouth disease and erythema multiforme. After receiving a biopsy, blood tests, an EKG and 2 echocardiograms, Baylee was finally diagnosed with A-Typical Kawasaki Disease. We would like to stress A-Typical because Baylee did not have text book symptoms of any of the viruses they thought he had.
Kawasaki Disease causes inflammation in the coronary arteries as well as the walls of the small and medium sized arteries throughout the body. Unfortunately, Baylee's coronary arteries were affected. He received an IVIG, which is a treatment to bring down the inflammation in his coronary arteries. Baylee will be closely monitored for the next 6-8 weeks by a Pediatric Cardiologist to see if the treatment was effective.
We want to thank every one who prayed for us as well as all of the emails and phone calls. Your love and support means so much to our family. The Hospital Staff were absolutely amazing. They made an extremely difficult time in our lives as comfortable as possible.
We are humbled by the love and compassion that people have for our son all over the world, thank you!

poor little guy:(
Poor baby
he's a cutie pie!
I had the Honda Flu once.
Sad. I hate hearing about little kids/babies going thru stuff like this.
I read this last night on the BSB official site and it broke my heart! I met him last year and he is the cutest thing ever!!! His prayers are in my heart!!! I hope he gets better!
Perez I'm so glad you're reporting this and taking it seriously. When you first mentioned it the other day I thought for sure you'd make fun of it since, lets face it, the BSB aren't exactly haveing a stellar career since they're reunion a few years ago. Nonetheless, Brian is such a sweet, loving guy and I'm sure he and Leighanne are really torn up about this, especially given Brian's history of heart disease. They're a beautiful family with an adoreable son and I hope he gets better soon!!
Oh that's so sad he is a cutie and Brian seems like a cool guy.
My brother had this as a child. While scary, there is a high rate of recovery!!
very treatable!!! my nephew had this and and was caught before it damaged the heart. after 10 hours of gamogoblin (sp) it was better! Thank God they found out what it was. Prayers are with the family.
Oh poor little thing. so tiny and with that huge illness. i pray for him and his mommy and daddy. i hope they get thru this. i knw brian has had a heart surgery before. so painful to know.
Ok, I can help get this kid fixed. There's an old prayer secret that actually works if thou has any faith at all. Even the smallest faith of a tiny mustard seed will get the prayer answered…so here's what you say:
I plea the blood of Jesus over Baylee
and
I BIND THE ENEMY AWAY..IF YOU BELIEVE, IT LEAVES..BINDING IT MAKES IT GO..HE WILL BE BETTER COZ I JUST DID THE PRAYER FOR HIM.
GOD HAS BLESSED HIM AS HE ALWAYS DOES.
MERRY CHRISTMAS BAYLEE
REJOYCE♥
This is very treatable & has a really good prognosis. I'm sure he'll be OK!
That makes me so sad! I used to be such a BSB freak when I was a kid! Brian has a heart problem too, I believe a heart murmur… I wonder if that had anything to do with it?
Get better little guy =(
Aw man
Poor little Bayleaf. He's such a precious little boy, too. I had a chance to meet the Littrells, and they such sweet, wonderful people. Prayers go out to them!
Man that's awful-I hope they can keep the disease under control so he can lead a fairly normal life. Hang in there Baylee!
Sorry to hear & hope he improves … but to get technical, the correct term is "atypical" not "A-Typical".
It's "atypical", not "'A' - typical". *shakes head* Seems to me that they ought to do a little research on their son's condition before taking to their blog to phonetically repeat what their doctors told them.
yeah i've had the suzuki-itis before, pretty bad stuff
poor little guy, i hope everything turns out okay
God is sending him a blessing from above. To the mother of the boy, print out my angel wings and keep it with him. My wings were caught on film by a 13 year old girl, they will bring him the faith that he needs to be healed. God Bless and take care.
This is the same disease that John Travolta's son suffered from many years ago. Its often linked to chemicals used in cleaning, specifically rug cleaners.
Heal the Child in Jesus name.
Poor kid, I hope this is manageable. Don't want to take anything away from this, but there's no such thing as "A-Typical" — the word is "atypical." But the welfare of the kid overwhelms such things as grammar ignorance.
Re: Than Thou – wow. their son's sick and you're complaining about their blog's grammatical errors. nice.
brian littrell looks like carlisle cullen.
but really, right before christmas? that sucks. :/ hope he gets better!
Why are we blamin' this on the Japs?
Poor little pumpkin God speed his recovery
I'm still a huuuuuuuuge BSB fan
I hope baylee gets well.
the backstreet boys are coming to south america…so I hope Baylee comes too!
Poor little guy, many prayers for him to get better.
Brian has a heart condition too so when news broke Baylee was in the hospital that was the first thing I thought of, something wrong with his heart.
horribile
I had this when I was little. Fortunately, It didn't affect my heart. Hopefully he'll make a full and quick recovery.
hes too cute that lil baylee! hope her gets better soon!
hes too cute that lil baylee! hope he gets better soon!
didnt brian have a heart problem too?
anyways…that is awful. i hope he gets well soon. they are such a cute little family, and they are so sweet and nice.
hope he gets well soon.
merry christmas!
Awwwww that poor baby… I wish him and his parents the best. Get well soon, Baylee.
Dear "Than Thou", I think this man has his priorities in check, by putting his kid before his grammar. Undoubtely you'll find some errors in my comment too, so let me apologize up front for being Dutch. With kind regards, MickeyB
Aww, poor Baylee! SO glad he's getting better. The Littrell's really don't deserve this, especially right before Christmas.
Brian's such a perfect man.
THANK YOU, Perez, for finally reporting something NICE about the BsB's. They really don't deserve any of your crap like you usually give them. They are seriously awesome.
Oh, and Perez, just for future reference… it's Littrell… not Litrell. LoL
My husband was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease when he was 5 years old. After a few weeks in the hospital, he was sent home. He is now a happy, healthy 34 year old with a beautiful little girl and a very happy family.
My prayers are with little Bailey as he fights this disease. 30 years from now, I hope he is writing messages of hope for others who are affected by this disease. Get well soon, little man!
In our prayers.
sounds like a motorcycle….
AHA
Re: harrybalsac – you crack me up!! that definately made me laugh out loud! not that i dont feel horrible for the little boy…..that statement just cracked me up!
i believe its atypical, not A-Typical. and IVIgs are not given to subside inflammation… anti-inflammatories (like prednisone, a glucocorticoid). IVIg is antibodies… if anything, it will make him worse and more inflamed. jus saying… what he said didnt make any sense…
SHIT that is awful…why would they name a disease after a motorcyle ???
Poor kid :{
Re: harrybalsac – First off your an asshole and I hope you die a horrible painful death, are you that much of a loser that you try and get attention by being a total fucking ass?
Secondly that's so terrible. It's heartbreaking especially when it's little kids. Aww.
Awww Poor little sweetie! I sooo hope the treatment works and he get well soon! I feel so sorry for Brian and Leighanne as well, they went through enough when Brian had surgery, it's really not fair.
And as for everyone correcting their spelling - get a life!!
I hope the little boy recovers completely from this confusing and potentially deadly disease. I know the Littrells had to be scared to death. Wasn't Brian about his son's age when he was hospitalized for weeks and on death's door? He was left with a heart condition that worsened under the strain of constant touring?
Re: Than Thou –
Are you really gonna try and diss on a couple with their little son sick/in the hospital? I think they were probably more worried about their son getting over it than how to spell it. OMG, get over yourself and shut up.
OH, and btw Perez, thanks for mentioning this on your blog.. I know BSB isnt on the top of your list of people to watch. Its nice to hear about them in main-stream media, instead of always having to go to the fansite if you wanna know whats up with them (like I do!)
inneresting…..i remember Brian was born with a hole in his heart and had to have a surgery like 10 years back. i wonder if they're related at all. i hope the little tyke is okay though. any idea if there is a cure or treatment to manage it??
Poor little dude. I was diagnosed with Kawasaki when I was 3 or 4 years old?…fortunately I went on to become perfectly healthy and although it does restrict heavy aerobic exercise, I'm on the varsity dance team at my school. Bless his heart. Hopefully they caught it early on. He'll be okay.
see told ya so
Loving thoughts being sent to the Litrell family.
That poor little guy
it must be very difficult for the family especially around the holidays! bless them!
awww….
sad, but I know god will bless them with a fast recovery for the boy
Brian probably is devasted as he himself had a heart surgery a decade ago.
Thank God he has the most amazing family and hes getting all support he needs. Baylee will be ok
Remember, his daddy has had heart surgery too… must run in the family.
I love that whole family

My guess is he was trying to get an update out, and did the best with the information he'd been given but doesn't yet fully understand. Give him a break
Re: posturrrgirl –
I hate to break it to you but PH isn't "mainstream media" by any means. That title is reserved for outlets such as CNN, FOX, MSNBC, that, essentially, cater to the country as a whole. NOT a goss-blog
they went through a lot…all those tests. that's nervewracking with anyone you love, especially your young child. My prayers go out to all of them and wish Baylee recovery and the ability to just simply enjoy his childhood.
awe poor baylee!!!!! but im glad he is out of the hospital! our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family!… KTBSPA
Re: Roxster – and what do you know about their last tour? anything? lets just say it was SOLD OUT… backstreet fans are always alive
lol
Doctor Honda the child's doctor said this Kawasaki Disease is no laughing matter. He has been researching it for ten years with the help of Dr. Suzuki and Dr. Davidson of Milwaukee and they said his prognosis is good BUT he is in for a very rough ride.
He L@@Ks like a Pretty Great Kid and I hope everything works out fine for him. Children are innocent angels.
Poor thing, I hope he gets better soon!
that makes me wana cry. I remember when Brian had to have surgery because of his heart, and now his son, poor little guy. My heart goes out to them!
My sister has the same disease. It's pretty rare over here (Sweden) and it can be pretty exhausting, but as long as he take his meds it shouldn't be a huge problem. It must suck to develop it when you're that young, my sister got diagnosed when she was about 26-27 and she managed to have a small career in football (soccer for you americans) before she got it.
