Poor People In Milan Get Free Caviar This Holiday Season

Leave it to Milan to feed their homeless caviar as a treat!
It seems that two men tried to smuggle some choice beluga caviar into Milan last month. That's when police caught the traffickers and confiscated their over 88lbs of caviar. It had an estimated worth of over $550,000!
The men brought the pricey goodness over from Poland to sell in the shops of Milan as well as the rest of the wealthy Lombard region.
Police officials that carried out the raid had kept the caviar for several weeks in fridges but soon realized it would go bad in some time.
One rep told the local newspaper that "Tests showed us the food was still perfectly OK to eat but it couldn't be stored much longer, so we decided to give it to the poor."
So aside from keeping a small amount of caviar for testing, they have sent the rest "to voluntary associations, charity kitchens and old people's homes."
Virginio Colmega, a local priest who runs a charity house in Milan, said "Everything that comes our way is very welcome, even though most of our guests don't even know what those little black balls are."
Well, at least for one day they'll be able to know what it's like to eat like the rich and famous.
Until the next day when it's back to bread and water!
At least it's a nice Christmas treat this year. Caviar and maybe some egg nog?

Where's Boy George in all of this?
perez decinos donde estas, te queremos conocer, no seas malo!!
Who cares!
Great idea!!! It's good to see that there are still people in this world with good intentions
Merry Christmas all!!!! HOHOHO
Lol, we don't have egg nog in Italy, but I'm sure that caviar came with a piece of panettone or pandoro
It's just fish bait to me.
What a stupid thing - I am sure most of the homeless would have appreciated bread and butter more.
They should have been seeling the caviar for its double price and spend the money to the charity organisations - what's wrong with people all over the world???
Re: Screamer77 – hahaha "…most of our guests don't even know what those little black balls are…" only Italian can speak this way (i'm Italian..)
… Scremer77: come mai non lo hanno detto a StudioAperto??
I don't think Caviar will be a treat to them. I hear it's an squired taste.
It's great that it is going to people who need it, but caviar tastes awful. Lots of money can't by good taste.
HELLOOOO.
.
DONATE IT TO A CHARITY THAT HAS A RETAIL COMPONENT!
.
LIKE ITALY'S VERSION OF THE GOODWILL OR SALVATION ARMY.
.
THEY CAN SELL IT AND NET HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. JUST LIKE THRIFT STORES HERE!
ew caviar is so gross…
Re: andrew1987 – forse perchè toglievano troppo spazio ai servizi sui regali di natale o alla gara dei calendari x il 2009! sai, senza queste notizie non possiamo andare aventi nella vita!!!
That's fucking gay. You can't get much nourishment off of fucking caviar. Stupid stupid people….
I mean it's nice to give ANYTHING to the homeless… but they could have been more considerate and spend the money on something more nourishing… Then again, for all we they could have fed them other stuff too.
Thanks, but NO THANKS! We're just looking for some 86 cent VINO you stunads! Forgettaboutit!
I'm sure they would have appreciated some starches, meat proteins and carbohydrates more.
*sigh*
"The people have no bread, your Highness"
"Well then, let them eat cake!"
Dumb arrogant condescending fucks.
whats disturbing is some people actually care…lol
How totally ridiculous. I completely agree with the posters that have suggested that that caviar be sold and the money either donated or used to buy them a decent Xmas lunch that they may actually enjoy for God's sake.
Caviar is an extremely acquired taste and there are many who eat it who do not actually enjoy it - it's a status symbol (and a horrible one at that).
I'm sure some of the elderly probably thought they were being punished.
