The legendary Eartha Kitt has passed away.
The showman who did a little bit of everything died of colon cancer Thursday in Connecticut.
The singer/actress - known for that legendary purr, her role as Catwoman in the Batman TV show, and her song Santa, Baby - was performing up until this summer (above).
Eartha's memory will live on!

She was amazingly talented and a truly phenomenal woman. Eartha was one of a kind and will definitely be missed.

She reminded me of Marlene Dietrich. She could belt out a tune in english, french, or german, that would make even a gay man's hands clammy. Unfortunately, they just don't make 'em like they used to.
Instead, we've got Whitneys, Britneys, and Mileys. Pale, pale shadows of the grand ol' stars with talent, who could stand alone on a stage and sing acapella and bring the house down.

I feel so lucky that I got to see her in concert 4 times (twice in 1993, once in 1999, & once in 2006). You had to see the way this woman could move & stretch in her 70s & 80's!!!
I got a signed copy of her autobiography at a book signing in 1993.

Eartha Kitt was a hero to Boomers everywhere. She was one of the first "regular" mainstream people to speak out against the Vietnam War. She responded truthfully to Lady Bird Johnson at the WHITE HOUSE!!!!!! when asked about the war. Ruined her TV and movie career for years, but her singing remained FAB.

I took an acting class from her once. She was amazing. Her life story is an inspiration. RIP.
