Smile! You're Under Arrest!
"America's toughest sheriff," Joe Arpaio, is set to star in Smile…You're Under Arrest!, a Candid Camera-cum-America's Most Wanted reality TV show in which scofflaws are lured into arrest through elaborated setups. The program debuts Saturday on Fox, of course.
The controversial Maricopa County - Arizona - Sheriff, who has been accused of famewhoring, says that producers approached him with the show and added, "This is just another outside-the-box effort to join forces with the private industry/Hollywood to use certain techniques. It's entertainment. But on the other hand, we're able to accomplish a mission and also arrest people out on warrants."
The show will be another unconventional approach to crime and punishment, his others including infamous Tent City and mandatory pink underpants for inmates.
Show creator and producer Scott Satin says, "I just think he's quite the character and he's great on camera. Sheriff Joe, he's willing to go out and get these guys and do whatever he takes."
Depending on how the first three half-hour episodes perform, Fox could be interested in doing more.
It might receive some stiff competition from To Catch A Predator!

it's fucking stupid. i watched one show, and it was a lot of messing w/ the guy but it wasn't even funny and then after a 1/2 hr of waiting for something to happen they arrest him. could've been done in 5 min and without a tv show.
I'm so tired of hearing about this. Everybody talks about how he's so goddamn tough and makes the inmates wear pink underwear. He makes them wear the pink because people were stealing them and they figured people would be less inclined to steal the pink ones, except now they stand out and get stolen MUCH more because everyone knows where they're from. They also wear pink handcuffs. And they also get to perform at the improv in Tempe, so how's that for tough? Arpaio is a shady salesman and nothing more - we've seen a drastic rising in crime rates and this asshole is known for targeting the latino population here in the valley, so nice for Perez to look into it before he posted anything about it.
He'll probably use any money he gets from this to fly over the valley in a helicopter to make sure people have pool fences. That's what he did last summer. Because here in Phoenix, the fifth largest city in the US, that's the best way to spend money. We don't have a huge immigration problem or extreme violence issues. Two boys weren't just beaten to death on Christmas day in a park with a baseball bat or anything. No, check that my pool has a fence, you douche bag.

I work for a place called Union Hills Country Club, In AZ, and every single year SHERIFF JOE and his posse come to our country club for a party in the Main Dining Room. Most people don't know this or even want to know it, but ALL law agencies are for law enforcement. They're not supposed to PREVENT crime. They enforce the law after it is broken. Fence pools are the responsibility of the zoning ordinances.
He should run all the illegals out of the county and back to Mexico where they belong until they get a green card.

I've seen this guy out and getting completely trashed with his bodyguards in Scottsdale. He is the epitome of a loudmouth TOOL! before moving to arizona, stories about sherif joe fascinated me - the pink underwear and moldy bologna sandwiches for inmates cracked me up. but there is much more to this man. he is under investigation for dozens of corruption charges and connections to corrupt politicians. he is also a known racist that frequently sets up "traffic" stings, or "employment" stings in largely hispanic neighborhoods. he (personally!) and his officers will pull over every car in the town (quite literally) or enter every business looking for hispanics without documents. living close to one of these towns, our news is constantly covering these witch hunts.
