"Save A Sato is a non-profit organization dedicated to easing the suffering of Puerto Rico's homeless and abused animals. "Sato" is slang for street dog. We rescue Satos from the streets and beaches, give them medical care, food and shelter, and plenty of love. When they are healthy, we send them to one of our shelter partners for adoption into loving homes."

I love dogs. Thanks for this information Perez. I can add them to my list of
    dogs in need.

  3. 3

They are going to need millions because there are a lot of satitos in mi isla del encanto….

  4. 4

I'm glad you posted this Perez!

  5. 5

I like animals just fine, like to play with them, like to eat them (cows, that is!), BUT when people can't afford to pay their own shit, how can you ask them to help a foreign country's issues?

  6. 6

OMG, what the heck is going on here with all these racists? Puerto Rico is not a foreign country, we are part of the U.S.!

Sheba08, you are the only nice person here so far…..

Re: BBBoricua – Racist may be a bit harsh, dear. I'm not a racist at all; however, I do get the same crap about my state as you do about PR - - Alaska is a foreign country to many US citizens, and is, in fact, considered a foreign country by many businesses that operate in the US. Gets old, doesn't it?? And no, I'm not worried about dogs in PR, Alaska, Canada, or anywhere else, frankly.

  8. 8

That is so sweet to help street dogs. I always pick up stray dogs and cats that I find abandoned or lost! Good for this organization and God Bless the innocent animals!!!!!

Re: Charmer – How can people think of Alaska as a foreign country- they must be crazy! I do get tired sometimes people talking nonsense. It really sounds like racism….

Puerto Rico shouldn't be considered a foreign country. For one, Im in college right now and my classes are full of people from the states who come here to get their degrees since its cheaper and they can finish in half the time. We are a common wealth state and come on would you really call it a foreign country???

On the other hand your comment wasn't racist at all BBBboricua took it a little out of context.

I'm glad to see this worthwhile cause over here there are WAY to many homeless animals…Ill admit people here are pretty irresponsible about their pets. This is a very big issue over here. Thanks Perez for publishing this cause. =)

Perez..thanks for posting this. People in PR love animals and sometimes take them in without really being able to, but they do out of the kindness of their hearts. I know my family did and we ended up with more animals that we can afford. But somehow, we always managed to get them food, even if it meant not having steak for dinner. As my mother always said…if you don't love animals, how can you possibly love anyone else?

Re: BBBoricua – Merci, BBBoricua! I just happen to love
animals. I am already active in the community where i live to rescue animals left by owners. A lot has happend since the recession is so bad. I only hope everyone will read and try to help.

Re: Charmer – We certainly don't need your help. Maybe someone with a kinder heart, would like to help, just like many puertoricans donated their blood and money for 911.

We have 3 Satos in our family; Basil, Lola, and Millie. All three are wonderful dogs. I live in Massachusetts and we don't have alot of strays, which is lucky, so the shelters bring in dogs from Puerto Rico. This is a really beautiful organization and the people who run it are committed to finding families for these sweet dogs. Most of them are small dogs, mixed up adorable mutts. If you are considering donating to one of the many charities that Perez brings to his reader's attention, this is one that is run well and really sticks to their mission and goals.
    Yay for Satos!

I am a Save A Sato rescue who was born with diabetes and cataracts. I was very lucky I flew to my Mom because PR veterinarians would have put me to sleep. Instead I am now 3 1/2 years old, had my eyes fixed at Cornell, and my diabetes is regulated by insulin.

I have 2 Sato sisters Gypsy & Amber and my Mom works very hard to help Save A Sato. She has even been to the shelter, and helps the Satos fly to the USA.

They are a wonderful Group and they make miracles happen with very little money.

    Thank you for helping them.

On behalf of the volunteers that work so hard to help the satos, thank you Perez for highlighting Save A Sato! The dogs on the island need help to overcome the neglect, cruelty and abuse they suffer at the hands of humans - Save A Sato works diligently and on a very small budget to help care for the dogs, rehome adoptable dogs and provide education to the public. Thanks for helping us spread the word about the plight of the satos!

  22. 22

I went and donated since I have shelter dogs and always will. To those of you making negative comments, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. I'm no granola head, but I believe in karma and it does come back to bite you in the ass.

  23. 23

I actually adopted a SATO, he's an amazing dog. If you check the website some of the things the people do to these dogs are HORRIBLE, they make me sick! Everyone needs to find someone to adopts these dogs, they are the friendlyist most loyal dogs ever!

  24. 24

One of my pups is a sato. She's pretty much the love of my life and I will forever be grateful to the people at save a sato for bringing her into my life. Thanks for bringing attention to them!!

  25. 25

great organization to give to…the dogs in PR need the help…kudos perez

We recently returned from Mexico and saw homeless dogs everywhere. We cared for a homeless beach dog with three puppies while there. She had a severe infection, possibly from unattended birth and her health was deteriorating. We knew if we left her she and her puppies would die. Taking them to a shelter was our only choice. Through email they said she was spayed and hopefully adopted out. We shed tears because we had to leave her behind. Mexico is in dire need of an organization like yours. God bless you for what you do.
