Paris Has To Defend Her Spending Of Money in Australia

As we mentioned earlier this week, Paris Hilton along with sis Nicky Hilton and their mini entourage landed in Australia to celebrate and host a New Year's Eve party.
While in Melbourne, Paris is said to have spent thousands of dollars on a shopping spree. The 27 year-old spent about $4,000 in a 40 minutes.
And, local charities took it upon themselves to criticize Paris for her "excessive" spending.
But she's helping the economy!
Shouldn't people be encouraged to spend MORE?
In a new conference on Tuesday, acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard was questioned about Paris's shopping spree and she actually praised Hilton for "recognising Australia's attraction as a fashion and shopping destination."
In response to those comments, Paris said "I heard that a politician said that. I thought that was very sweet and it's true."
So what does the party girl have to say about her spending?
Paris says, "I'm in Australia, I think it's important to help out, you know, the economy out here, everywhere in the world. And what's wrong with doing a little shopping? It's New Year's, I need a New Year's dress."
Hey, if you've got millions, $4k on a dress isn't that big of a splurge.

the economic crisis is nowhere near as bad in australia as it is in the uk, us, parts of asia and many western european countries

So the tourists are responsible for supporting charities now? No matter where you go in the world, there are poor people. The bleeding heart liberals want all the poor people brought up to the same status as the wealthy. That means that NOBODY should spend ANYTHING on leisure or luxury items until the poor are on par with the wealthy.

I don't think anyone has a right to tell anyone else how to spend their money, even if they're rich. It's really no one's business. You would hope that those who have great financial wealth would choose to share some of it with a charity that has meaning to them.
