Time Warner Cable Customers : Say Bye Bye to MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon!

If you are a Colbert Report or Hills fan and are a Time Warner Cable customer, you may want to start looking into DirecTV stat! Come January 1st (yes, tomorrow) you may not be able to see them at home!
Viacom, the media company that owns Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon, among many other channels, and Time Warner Cable have been unable to resolve a business agreement and is threatening Viacom channel service to subscribers.
Viacom gets paid by Time Warner to carry its channels on the cable network. They claim that they've been trying to negotiate a "fair" renewal price for its channels for months and months, but Time Warner Cable has been unresponsive and "unreasonable" so talks have stalled.
The cable company has said it is prepared to refund customers for the lost programming if a deal can't be reached by New Year's, though the amount hasn’t been determined yet.

Hi — I'm the director of digital communications at Time Warner Cable. And for Viacom to say that we're being unreasonable is patently ridiculous. They're asking for $39 million from our customers, in addition to the hundreds of millions that they already are getting. This is bold, to say the least.
As you well know, nobody watches MTV anymore unless they're stuck in a waiting room somewhere and Comedy Central puts its best shows online for free? Why should anyone pay more for free or crappy products?
Only channel I'm going to miss if this happens is Comedy Central. Sigh….South Park.

Its not just MTV…..its 16 channels all together. I am so sick of Time Warner's shit! Half the channels are so fuzzy you cant even see the picture. In Dayton, Ohio we lost NBC for 2 months during a negotiation bullshit session like this one!

Oh they'll just reach a deal eventually. Time Warner always cries about everything (think WBN, CW, the big 10 network). One of them will cave after a week at the most.

I have both Time Warner Cable and Internet. I checked the websites for MTV and Comedy Central, and a message popped up on both pages saying that if you have Time Warner, you will not be able to view shows on the TV or online. Viacom is being completely unreasonable and greedy.
SAD!!!!I have a child that watches the kid stations. I enjoy watching them with him. I also will see what is going on with the weather when I don't have my computer on. I love country music so I will miss CMT. So I will call my cable company and either cancel or just get the basic. I hope that doesn't make cable company shut down. That will mean more people losing their jobs.

Actually, Viacom is asking for more money, and Time Warner is saying "no" because it would affect the consumer, which could be you. Time Warner feels that it is not fair to ask for more money than normally agreed to in a time of recession.
Hmmmm…losing the Viacom channels…Nickelodeon is for kids, MTV has sucked donkeys for years, and the only worthwhile show on the Comedy Channel is South Park (Colbert is an egotistical, boring douche). I can get South Park episodes from the iTunes Store, so fuck Viacom.
Retransmission Consent should be put to an end. I work for a small cable company in PA and it's a pain in everyone's asses. TV Stations are trying to get cable companies to pay $$ per subscriber in order for us to carry their station, and that raises cable TV prices DRAMATICALLY for every subscriber… but don't worry, contracts will be extended until an agreement is reached and no cable company will ever drop those major stations.
