Dick Clark's Rockin Eve on ABC was NYE's highest rated show.
According to early reports, Dick and his co-host, Ryan Seacrest, scored an 8.5 rating.
Carson Daly's countdown show on NBC clocked in with a 5.0 rating.
However, despite scoring the #1 spot, Dick's ratings dropped for a third year in a row:
2005: 9.5 rating
2006: 9.1 rating
2007: 8.8 rating
Carson, on the other hand, scored his biggest ratings this year. His show was up a tenth of a point from 2007.
Regardless, TV insiders say the NYE TV numbers are encouraging.
The countdown events are apparently holding up better in recent years than some other types of specials, such as award shows.

Dick Clark is great, but the other networks' shows are getting better, so I'm sure that is what's behind the ratings drop. ABC better keep an eye over their shoulder.

What I want to know is if they time delay the morning news for the sake of the appearances why would they not also time delay the ball drop so that it actually dropped at 12:00 in every time zone. We missed it because apparently the new year starts at 11pm in the midwest.

I watched dicks to see The Jonas Brothers!Probably ratings werent as high because most people were in times square!Well anyways dicks was the place to be!

Dick Clark didn't sound very good but I thought he looked better than last year. He seems to have more movement…God Bless him, the man's an American icon.

Anyone that made nasty comments about Dick Clark should be ashamed of themselves. You better pray that you don't have to go through what that poor man has gone through when you are in your senior years. It brought tears to my eyes to see his wife come over and kiss him at midnight. So sweet.
