Did Scientology Play a Part in Jett Travolta's Death?

| Filed under: John TravoltaSad Sad

A new report asserts that Jett Travolta suffered from autism NOT Kawasaki disease, which the Travolta's have long asserted.

Autism is a condition that is apparently not 'recognized' by John Travolta's beloved Scientology religion. Followers believe that autism falls under the category of mental illnesses. They view people who suffer from mental disorders as defective human beings and teach that such 'illness' be treated through spiritual healing. They reject the use of drugs to treat mental conditions.

Seizures are a common 'side effect' of autism when its left untreated.

Jett was reportedly knocked off his feet by a seizure before he hit his head on bathroom fixtures and then subsequently died.

Makes you say, hmmmm, right?

Update: Travolta's camp is now claiming that "Jett had suffered from grand mal seizures in the past and had taken anti-seizure medicine which the Travolta's say did not work, so the medication was stopped."

    Very sad.

  2. 2

pls do not make any stupid comment on this, a child is dead and his parent i am sure are suffering enough for it, if u had a child maybe you would understand so stop the bitching..

who are you to fucking judge what parents are doing for their child you fucking stupid idiot, you dont even know the truth behind the story so do us a favour and…….. FUCK THE FUCK UP!!!!!

  3. 3

Leave this alone, Mario! It's too soon….
    RIP, Jett….. :(

  4. 4

This really annoys me. Okay, so it's a sad story. Famous actor's eldest child dies so young, etc. etc. but Scientology is just another load of bullshit just like other cults that these Hollywood freaks follow like Kabbalah (that's even more crap!). Scientologists don't even believe in being treated by real doctors, so it would come as no surprise that poor Jett was not given the correct medical attention he so desperately needed. He looks way too overweight for a teen in that photo, too.

  5. 5

I don't like scientology just like most of the country and feel it is a mind control cult that beards actors who are too ashamed to admit they are gay. For example Will Smith, Tom Cruise and John Travolta just to name a few. If you are gay why be ashamed of it and have to hide it just to keep getting the macho roles? You are who you are and if people cannot accept you for who you are they are the ones with the problem. I really don't think Kelly would allow her son to die and deny him help, do you?

  6. 6

    scientology sucks it suckssssssssssssss

  7. 7

Oh my god!! If that's true, that is extremely inhumane. Poor kid.

  8. 8

Thank you, funny girl. I really appreciate what you said !
You know, when I woke up on this gorgeous FL morning, I found out that my skin became thicker overnight.
To hell with all the haters ! I love all my posse friends (-:
    Go Miami Dolphins !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. 9

When it comes to Scientology, I can believe it, sadly. And as a pharmacist, I can't think of a single epileptic I've met in my practice who hasn't found at least one drug that helps them. I find it hard to believe that Jett's drugs just plain didn't work. Was he on the right ones? Was the dose appropriate? Maybe he just needed a different drug than the one(s) tried, and/or a combination of more than one. Very very sad indeed.

  10. 10

awww my heart goes out to them

  11. 11

i agree that this has got to be so sad for the parents give them respect mario you fatass seriously go and shit paris for her recent herpes breakout on her lip why dont you post that fatass

  12. 12

Seriously, shut up. He wasn't autistic, and you can't blame his, or anyone's, religion for his extremely tragic death. SO LEAVE IT ALONE. A kid died, it's tragic, stop trying to fill your page with bullshit conspiracies about it. Have an ounce of respect and let his poor family grieve.

  13. 13

Hmmm wonder if John HIMSELF will speak on this.

  14. 14

    John Travolta,
To deny a very sick suffering child, your own son , a medication because your Church of Scientology forbids it is a CRIME.

  15. 15

Hey, if you're in denial about homosexuality, why not be in denial about autism too?

  16. 16

Re: SophieJane – I absolutely agree with you. Mauri, if the kid could've been saved by taking his medications and controlling his disease, don't you think the parents should be partially at fault? If I had a child and knew medication would save his life, you bet your ass I would give him every last drop of that medication. Screw your religion at that point, this is your own child you are talking about! I sure hope they didn't believe he would be "saved" by Scientology. I have a feeling that some weird stuff will be coming out very soon about this story. It isn't sitting well with me.

  17. 17

Anyone with a seizure disorder should be regularly seen by a neurologist, because dedication has to be continually altered to try and help manage the effects. I very much hope the family's beliefs didn't interfere with this poor child getting the medical attention he should have been receiving.

  18. 18

    poor kid

  19. 19

Oh, John Travolta — you and Tommyboy were so close to leaving Scientology at different points in your lives. I hope this tragedy makes you reconsider the lies you've been fed by your cult enough to leave the cult for good. Remember Skippy!

  20. 20

so sad . my sympathy goes out to the family… may he rest in peace…

  21. 21

That man is a piece of shit. That poor child. He didn't have a prayer in that family.

  22. 22

YES, it had everything to do with his death. His parents let this cult control their minds, which in turn made them neglect their son's needs. I understand leaving Jett at home when they attended social events. They probably didn't want to over-stimulate him, and were unsure of how he'd react to the media, pictures being taken, etc. But these two RARELY even talked about Jett. When they did, it was vague or they quickly changed the subject. They almost seemed embarrassed of him. I saw John on the Ellen Degeneres show a month ago, and he RAVED about Ella and her acting abilities. He only mentioned Jett when Ellen brought him up, and it was only to say he has an older son. And based on what Scientology says, you can see why devout followers would feel a child like this was inferior. They say the seizure meds didn't work. I bet they never even tried them, and are just saying that shit to cover their asses from public scrutiny. And I still go back to my original question, when I first heard about this tragedy. If Jett went into the bathroom on Thursday NIGHT, why the fuck was he not found until late FRIDAY morning???? Who was watching him? Where was the caretaker all this time? Where were the Travoltas? If your child has ANY disability (seizures, autism, Kawaski's, whatever), no matter what his age, why is he not being monitored more carefully????

  23. 23

    I totally agree with is.
Perez isn't the first to suspect this.
I saw a news story about 2 years ago in regards to this Scientology and Jett specifically - and why we never saw him in public. I didn't even know he had a son at the time.
    So sad.

  24. 24

for 'blunt force trauma' that kid fell pretty hard. anyone find that a bit weird?

  25. 25

Seizure disorders can be so hard to treat. I know more than one person who has struggled with this for most of their life. One of my friends has been working on finding a medication to prevent Gran Mal seizures for years, to no avail. So before we all jump and blame the Travoltas for not medicating their son, lets remember that every human body is unique, and this probably has little to nothing to do with Scientology. The loss of a child is devistating, no matter what the cause. Poor family.

  26. 26

Re: Halfpint – I completely agree with you! I have suffered from migraines for a a few years now, and have found medications to help. It doesn't make it all go away completely, but it helps. This is such a sad, sad story. If Scientology has anything to do with Jett not getting medication, hopefully the parents will wake up and really think about this "religion" of theirs. I hope Jett is safe on his journey, and may he rest in peace wherever he may be.

  27. 27

Re: Clawsie – Totally agree. It should be a non-stop search to stop what his son had/went through.
Especially because, the Travolta's aren't poor - they can basically afford trying all treatments.

  28. 28

I love you like crazy, Perez, but please leave the Travoltas alone for a while.

  29. 29

BTW, I agree with Halfpint's comment. I'm a nurse, and I can't imagine any parent just completely STOPPING seizure medications. Even if they don't prevent the seizures from coming, they certainly would help with the frequency and intensity.

  30. 30

if this is true another reason to hate scientology
why cant people be left to grieve in peace without all the speculation etc?

  31. 31

    What's that?

The sound of a Jett crashing.

  32. 32

  33. 33

Re: Hawt Granny – my sister is epileptic and hadnt had a seizure in two years but has had 4 in the last month so they upped her doseage. i agree, i dont think theyd just stop giving people their medication

  34. 34

  35. 35

This is so sad,I hope the pap leave the family alone. This is his private life.

  36. F says – reply to this

    Shut up.
Everyone has the right to believe whatever he wants.
Their child is dead. What do you want now?

  37. kaya says – reply to this

isn't it a little soon for this, perez? have a heart.

  38. 38

Re: Milky Milky – Everything about this story is just weird and sad… A nanny 24-hours-a-day, bells on his door….

  39. 39

Re: Halfpint – there was no medication….

  40. 40

Scientology is a cult and should be treated as such… This poor kid is dead though and you should be respectful and let his family mourn him in peace.. If something illegal or harmful was happening then the police in the Bahamas should be looking into it.
Why do so many hollywood wackos get involved in these kinds of cults? Could the child's obesity have played a part in his problems too? He looks very unhealthy from his pictures.

  41. 41

Oh and one more thing: Medical records in the case would be interesting to see- no? What he was diagnosed as….what medication he tried, and " refused" to take.. this is all just odd that his parents did exhaust all resources to help him.

  42. 42

A child has died. What business is it of ANYONE to judge about the Travolta's. None of you were there yall are only responding to reports that are being made by the internet or tv. The Travolta's are being critisized harshly and that is not fair. Even if Jett is autistic it's not your business, it's John and Kelly's business. They have to deal with there son on a daily basis not us. Please don't judge too quickly when the facts are not in black and white.
May the Travolta's find peace with this aweful tragic event.
    Rest in Peace Jett

  43. 43

this is interesting and all, but you could have been more sensitive perez

  44. 44

I knew the Scientology backlash was going to show. Sometimes kids need meds. :(

  45. 45

Re: Busyface – wow that is just fvcked up, you just guaranteed your place in hell and a healthy dose or Karma coming your way very soon my dear, just wow

  46. 46

I think it is disgursting that people have nothing better to do than scrutinize a family and their beliefs when their child has just died. The worse pain a parent could ever suffer. Leave them in peace.

  47. 47

If that med didn't work, they should have tried another type. You just don't give up on your kid if they are convulsing like that. Seizures are not present in ALL Autistic children Perez, but some children that are on the severe side of spectrum might get those. Also some Autistic children have digesting issues thats why some think "diets" can cure Autism. Diets can alleviate some symptoms but it doesn't cure Autism. If the Scientologist would actually talk to a doctor they would know it is a Neurological disorder, not a mental illness.

  48. 48

Re: BBBoricua loves Angels & Demons – what is this about bells on his door?

  49. 49

The sad thing is, the Travoltas have all the money and resources available to help their child, and we're supposed to believe they tried one medication and stopped?? I hope John and Kelly at least see the error of their ways. Unfortunately, I doubt they will be prosecuted or even investigated. He probably died during one of their scientology cleansing rituals.

  50. 50

I hate to say this, but it serves Travolta right for not recognizing autism in his son. Hollywood wackos believe in these cults cause they are not like the rest of us, they live in a fantasy world where looks and money are all that matters.

  51. 51

  52. 52

Re: mauri7 – This is about scientology 'judging' autism as a mental illness; perhaps the parents being negligent due to being brainwashed and modern medicine not being allowed. This is why this just won't go away.

Celebrities who support scientology are 'loaded' with money so they will be treated just like celebrities, as usual.

If I could have prevented a death, it would haunt me for the rest of my life. But, then again, brainwashing may prevail here and I am not 'weak' enough to be brainwashed.

  53. 53

what the hell is your problem, putting blame on them when they just lost a child. You are awful and you have lost all my respect.

  54. 54

    Re: MoonlightMassage
Now if this had happened to someone not famous I'm sure you would not be so defensive as you are of the Travoltas. What they did was neglectful to their child. Had it been you every day person, that person would be in custody and their other child would be in protective services.

  55. 55

I think it`s truly disgusting that you would stir up such ignorant accusations at a time like this. Whether the father is a movie star or not, he lost his son and the last thing he needs right now is somebody causing his family more grief about his religeous views are or how he chooses to raise his children. It sounds like this was a freak accident that claimed Jett`s life, seizure or not. I read your site daily but this is just off-side. Have a little respect for the Travoltas at a time like this.

  56. 56

Seizure disorders may co-occur with autism (although I haven't heard of this being a common comorbidity), but seizures are not associated with untreated autism. There is no psychopharmalogical "treatment" for autism, just management of symptoms (i.e., self-stimulating behavior, aggression).

  57. 57

Its a very sad when a child dies, but religion is a hell of a drug when used wrong.

  58. 58

This is awful and the comments are awful - So much hate!!! As a parent, there is no greater tragedy than losing a child. I cannot imagine what the Travolta's are going through - and everyone of you hateful and miserable people are making it worse by slamming their beliefs (including you Perez - which I'm sure most of you are ignorant on the beliefs of Scientology. Anyone remember the freedom of religion, something that this country is founded on? It's obvious that the Travolta's were great people that are very family oriented and would always put their children first. Rest in Peace Jett.

  59. 59

Scientology is an exclusionary religion that elevates one group and demeans another created as a bet by a sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard to see if he was correct in what humans like to cling to: having the correct answers rather than surrendering to impermanence.

  60. 60

Re: superhotfemale – I read they had an alarm or chime on the door that would sound everytime he went to the bathroom. That is why is so strange that nobody checked on him for a while….

  61. 61

Re: lakerfan100 – Ok: I thought of something else. It has been rumoured that John Travolta is a closet gay since the days of 'Welcome Back Kotter.' If so, what does scientology say about this??? Isn't his marriage an 'arranged' marriage? Does anyone know the answer to these two questions?

Note: I like when some celebrities use a so called religion like scientology which in truth is a cult for their cause; i.e., only when it suits them. They probably do it to be 'different' and gives them 'a sense of purpose.'

  62. 62

I CALL BULLSHIT!!!!!! There's no such thing as untreated AUTISM. You don't take medicine for Autism, there's no such thing. Often the kids are given therapy to teach them how to live with autism. It is NOT a mental illness, but a brain disorder that causes the child to live inside his own head, in his own world.

  63. Taren says – reply to this

The Daily Mirror is a tabloid and wrong all the time, but I guess it's pointless to point that out.

  64. 64

    poor Jett.

  65. 65

    awwww.thats so sad ! :(

  66. zoey says – reply to this

Sometimes Doctors or Parents decide to take a child off certain meds because the accumulated side effects and how the drug affects the organs OUTWEIGHS the benefits …..so they try other newer promising drugs to treat the symptom .
My heart goes out o the Travolta's. AS far as not mentioning Jett in interviews
Regis Philbin has an older son who is challenged and he never talks about him, only his two daughters. AS SAID LAY OFF !

  67. 67

you can bet CNN will be milking this

  68. 68

I don't understand how people can believe this "religion" when the founder, L. Ron Hubbard, actually said “Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion." He started the religion to make money!

  69. 69

If this is true, Autism is not something you could cure or keep under control with any medication. Autism is a permanent neurological condition which impairs social interaction and communication skills. Since it affects many parts of the brain depending on the level of Autism it could cause in some cases the seizures that Jett had but didn't the Travolta's say that they had taken the anti-seizures medication and it didn't work, unfortunately they are right, these medication don't work with everyone.

  70. 70

Right now, this has nothing to do with scientology! It has to do with 2 people losing their son. Jeez, leave them alone! If they did something wrong, then they will have to live with that, not us. Let them greive, for gosh sakes. Please, if you have any decency Perez, just leave them alone!

  71. midi says – reply to this

don't know them personally, but really, let's ASSUME or SPECULATE and say that they obviously took the best care in dealing with his illness.

  72. 72

Why would you gossip about a child that died? Just because of his fathers religion? Let them mourn in peace.

  73. 73

i do not find your accusations very appropreate, considering a child has just passed away. For the love of god, screw off for a mintue.

  74. 74

are you fucking kidding me PEREZ…you are an asshole in the WORST possible way. FYI, I am starting to contact your advertisers to express my disdain for your cavalier "reporting/lying" about people, this has crossed the line so far, you are an ASS

  75. 75

AND there are no "treatments" for autism, you stupid fuck

  76. 76

i think you should leave this subject alone perez. its far too sensitive and a parent has the right to raise their child in a religion.
it is not fair to start picking at it.
2 loving parents are grieving for thier only son.
imagine it was your mother who was grieving u and they were saying it was her fault :(
    it is so sad.
my prayers are with their family

  77. VGirl says – reply to this

Actually, I don't know if that is a side effect of autism…and I know MANY autistic kis, every case is different, but I've know people who suffer from seizures and they have been able to live normal lives, yeah they have to be careful, but medicine helps A LOT

  78. 78

I think the parents have suffered enough without people pointing fingers and blaming when they probably don't know the full story. The kid is dead and that's very very sad but that won't bring him back. What people can do is learn from this, and realize that if this kid was denied proper medication because of Scientology, is to have their eyes open and realize that that is a screwy belief. If Scientology really played a part in his death, how do you think his family must feel? They're probably (and hopefully) going to drop that cult fast if that is the case.

  79. 79

perez…u r an asshole!!! how can u play the he said/she said crap when a child is dead?? show some respect!

  80. 80

Tim and Patricia Kenny are the proud parents of a 4 year-old autistic girl, believe that it might be time for Child Protective Services to look into John Travolta and wife Kelly's negligence in acknowledging their son Jett's reported autism.
The Kennys also claim that Kelly and John "let Jett sit in front of video games all day eating junk food, while they eat the best organic food money can buy. They exclude Jett from all social events because they are embarrassed."
"Once," reports Kenny, "when Kelly took him to the movies, Jett started to have a meltdown and Kelly pointed at the nanny and ordered, 'Take care of it.'"
"Jett does not speak at all," confirms Kenny. "He has not even been taught how to communicate. We struggle every week to pay for our daughter's therapy. How dare he [Travolta] ruin his own son's chances of recovering! We want to get the word out on this."

  81. VGirl says – reply to this

Re: Hawt Granny – I totally agree!! first, is true I didn't know he had a son, and if what you say is true that they didn't even mentioned him (I haven't seen many travoltas interviews) that is sooooooooooo sad, beyond words!, and I thought the same about the time he was discovered, many articles show he had TWO nannies, where were they??

  82. 82

whatever. the parents are the ones with the conscience they have to live with for the rest of their lives.

  83. 83

Thats the first thing that came to my mind about Scientolgy with holding drugs. John was sucked into the cult by that older actress he dated that died, she was on the show 8 is enough. The cult goes after the young ones who think they will make bank. Those auditors they have are dangerous, don't drink the Kool Aid peeps.

  84. 84

There is no level of pain or feeling of loss comparitive to losing a child. The world is praying right now for the Travolta family in this time of profound loss and tragedy.

If it is confirmed that this child was autistic and untreated medically due to religious convictions, perhaps Jet's legacy will be that the children of others will be properly medicated and spared such a senseless ending.

All the prayer in the world, as glorious as it is, will not bring the healing and relief realized by research, drug therapies and pharmacuticals. This sad fact has been proven incontrovertably.

Peace and healing to those affected by this tragedy.

  85. 85

give these people some space P………….next!

  86. 86

Re: Busyface – Busyface,I hope u burn I'n Hell. And If i was with u right now your crash would be 100 times worse the Jetts. Maybey he will be taken care of by the angles and find true peace. The kind he never knew on earth.Mabey this was gods was of saying you will suffer no more my child.

  87. 87

now you are a neurologist Perez? of course scientology did not kill Jett unfortunately epilepsy did. The meds are HORRIBLE (my son is on four without control) and the side effects suck. So John and his family did the best they could with a disorder they cannot cure and probably could not control. AND you are wrong to say that seizures are common in autism. Seizures are common in any disorder of the brain not just autism and out of all brqain disorder autism is the least likely to have seizures. You give partial truths to try and make it look like the Travoltas did something wrong. You are a total fuck to be doing this to this family ESPECIALLY now.

  88. 88

The question is: did they abruptly withdraw the anti-seizure medication, or was he tapered from it? Abrupt cessation of many meds, particularly anti-epileptics, can cause rebound seizures that can be even worse than the pre-treatment ones. You have to be VERY careful to be medically supervised when coming off these sorts of meds (and many others, even some antidepressants, albeit for different reasons).

  89. 89

You are totally messing up the facts dude…autism 'untreated' leads to seisures? Do you know how autism is even treated? Not with meds…

  90. 90

It just smells a little to me. What kind of parents don't see their kids for 16 hours - 6 pm to 10 am the next day and not even check on them? And this is a family vacation? Sounds to me like they really delegated the care of that child to paid help.

  91. VGirl says – reply to this

Re: kitten poo – autistics kids (soem) do take meds but is just to alleviate some symptoms

  92. 92

…early intervention is the only useful method, some meds are used to help control other effects (anger, anxiety) but none of this would lead to seizures…that is just stupid. If he had seizures, it wasn't b/c of autism

  93. 93

Re: the last star – Glad to see you are back!

  94. 94

    Re: mamajud

  95. 95

Sad. I feel for any parent losing a child.

  96. 96

actually this isnt a new report, its been rumored for years that jett was autistic and the travoltas just said he had kawasaki disease as a cover up. their reps even defended the issue last year

  97. 97

Please take the high road and don't go speculating on what they may or may not have done.

It's so sad that they have lost their precious son and I can only imagine the added pain when they have to see these headlines that will be popping up all over the place.

    Let them grieve in peace.

  98. 98

Re: SeekTruth – I recall an article on the net back in the day that Tom Cruise held "job interviews" for a wife and that a couple said no. Katie Holmes was still pretty much a nobody with a career on the decline so she said yes. This way she has a contract like Nicole had, when their time is up they get paid even more and get to live the rich lifestyle. Let's face it, where would Katie be right now without Tom? Working at Waffle House?

  99. 99

Perez, don't let this get swept under the rug. Something's not right here and I'm willing to bet that the Scientology handlers are already in the Bahamas trying to throw money at the authorities to make this whole thing go way. I am so sorry that this tragedy had to occur, but if anything comes from this, I hope this is what the Travoltas needed to finally wake them up and realize Scientology doesn't work.

  100. 100

Ahem perez you dont treat autism with medication first of all, PDD's are treated through therapy mostly. Second you dont just stop seizure meds because they dont work, you try different meds which treat diff types of seizures, or a combination. To take someone totally off seizure meds when they have a history of grand mall is irresponsible. Each time a person has a seizure it is affecting their brain, causing damage even. No doctor would just stop a med and not substitute with another if the person is having grand mall seizures. So either someone is lying or you need to get your facts strait.
