it's a re-recording, it isnt a copy. if it sounded the same, you would say that it sounds the same and it was better the first time. It appears as though no matter what she did with this recording, she couldnt have won.

Yeah, she's pretty much lost it, but that's understandable when you take into consideration her age and how crappy she's treated her voice and her body over the past 10 years. What's really sad is that - even sounding like this - she is better than most of the little girls who are starting to "make it big."

The video was terrible and probably only cost $100 to make and she didn't hit the high note which people expect, but what's the point of doing a remake if you don't do a different arrangement fatty.
I would have to agree with everything "justtfax" said in his comment which is number forty two on the comment list. I think it is great that Mariah took the time to give her FANS a new and fresh version of her hit "Hero." If you do not like it then simply do not listen to it. You can still put on the old version, I personally think they are both excellent.
Out of curiosity, what is your problem with Mariah? The fact her dog is more famous than yours will ever be? Maybe she will not talk to an asshole like you? I do not know. You truly do have problems though bashing on somebody like her who has accomplished so much in her ten years in the industry.
She is a strong woman and seems to care about her fans a lot, maybe people like her because she actually has talent unlike you and she became famous for having that talent and not having to bash on people to make a penny.
Anyways, I could go on for days but I have better thing's to do. I am happy Mariah did what she did and I am looking forward to hearing some more new music from the biggest selling female artist of all time!

The voice is breaking, but it's not gone. I rather she sings this than the mediocre recordings of her last cd. If she rests her voice and returns to the discipline she once had, she'll sing like an angel again.

I Love the original… this wasnt bad, it was nice- but i think the original is untouchable- and when it was so popular during 9-11 i think that its just burned into my mind that the original is the best…… I think this is a nice "LIVE" version of the song, but shouldnt have been recorded - but it was, and i'll still buy the ballads….

Awful. The original "Hero" is such a beautiful (albeit, sappy) song and this version is sadly awful. I haven't been a Mariah fan since after her 2nd album, mostly because she became so incredibly narcissistic and self-absorbed, but this is a whole new reason not to buy her music. She just doesn't have it any more. She's been on the decline for a few years and any of her performances in those past few years has been terrible. She always seems to use the same excuse of "I had a cold" but this version of Hero was obviously approved by her…bad decision Mariah!
I'll stick to her 1st album…it's still awesome.
i thought it was ok at first, but it is very clear that old marah just cant hit those high long notes anymore. If you notice all the long notes from the original were much shorter and croaky (sp?) and this makes the song sound out of tune. I am supprised though, with all the re-touching she has done to her pictures, you would have thought she would have had a studio wizz in to play around with this and make it sound better, or just re-release the original, but say its new.. But it is now clear Mariah has lost the talant that made her unique, and the old gal is struggling. Give up and retire now mariah, while you still have a voice, i dont want to be listening to your voice deteriorating for years to come, for your own good, and the good of the legend, give it up love!
It didn't sound all that different to me, but I never really cared for the original version. Have you heard her Right To Dream song from the Tennessee soundtrack? It's very good…old school Mariah, which I've been wanting to hear for a long time.

Ok…so, i'm sure a few people that have commented here may be music people..but i've taken voice lessons and have played violin for 8 years. Mariah CAN sing for all you haters out there. You have to take into account she's older, she hasn't put out anything where she had to put some effort in for some time. And if you guys forgot our dear Mimi went off the radar for many years, who knows what she did during that time. if you don't take care of your body and nurture your voice for life, it will lose that sparkle it once had.
Don't get me wrong the remake wasn't BAD, but it most definitely wasn't her best. i agree that she should have just left arguably one of her best songs alone.
