Swayze Won't Quit Smoking!!! Admits Cigarettes May Have Had Something To Do With His Cancer

In his interview with Barbara Walters, Patrick Swayze says a lot of things that break our heart.
But there's one thing that sort of makes us upset frustrated!
Very little is known about what causes pancreatic cancer, which is known as the "silent killer" because it displays no symptoms until it is too late, but doctors can agree that smoking increases a person's chances of contracting the cancer.
And Swayze admits in his interview that he is indeed still smoking and doing very little to quit the addiction.
Although he says he's "seriously cut back," quitting is "not his priority."
After a little more prodding, the actor confesses, "I will go so far as to say probably smoking had something to do with my pancreatic cancer."
So quit then!
You're not dead yet! Don't stop fighting to live!

Facing certain death is very stressing. Smoking reduces stress for some people and so he smokes. He doesn't have cancer of the lungs. So what.
I agree with Milky on this one, Perezito! I don't think smoking or not smoking will make a difference at this point.
Once he is committed to having healthier lungs, CHANTIX baby. Works better than the patch, gum, over the counter herbals, hypnosis, acupuncture etc. CHANTIX will do the trick. I am sure his Oncologist would write him the perscription.

I'd love to ask him if it was worth it. Are cigarettes really worth your life? Even if he quit now it probably wouldn't make much of a difference in the long run because, sadly, I don't think he's going to have a long run. Smoking increases your chances of getting a lot of different cancers, not only pancreatic (which is the worst of the worst I would say, along with some forms of brain cancer). It poisons nearly every organ in your body. If you're a smoker your chance of getting lung cancer over your lifetime is 20%. The sooner you quit, the better. Your heart will recover but once the damage is done to your lungs, that's it, you'll have to live with it. Try quitting, the worst that happens is you fail.

I have cancer and I was on chemo my Drs' told me during chemo is not the time to quit. Your body is going thru a tremendous burden the added stress of quitting isnt worth it. I quote" You have bigger battles to fight right now" It was the toughest thing Ive ever had to endure.
He used to smoke a lot, A WHOLE LOT. That's why the news of his cancer wasn't really a big surprise to me when it was first reported. God bless him though, he's a very good man.
This is terrible Perez! I cannot believe he is still smoking. Altho. I had a friend who developed breast cancer. She was way older then me. But anyway, she did chemo and it went away…or so we thought. A couple of years later, she developed a brain tumor. I remember when I went to see her two days before she died, she was still smoking ! Even in her hospital room!!! They allowed it because they knew she was on her way. If it was me, I would have threw out the cigarettes the second the docs told me it was Cancer. Cancer is No Joke. You're right Perez. You should never quit fighting to live.
How sad…he tells us all about the hell he's been through and will continue to go through but won't give up smoking. Patrick, you're making it very hard for me to feel sorry for you when you say such nonsense!!!

I agree with the majority here. The damage is done, if he quits smoking now it won't do him any good. Let him smoke and get the enjoyment out of it that he gets. Quitting is very hard, and right now I doubt he needs the stress of that, on top of chemo and radiation treatment.

IF, IF there is a test for pancreatic cancer, which apparently is undetectable until it is too late, shouldn't everyone be automatically tested/screened for it?
He is DYING Perez….maybe not tomorrow…..or this year..but there is absolutely nothing quitting smoking will do but make him miserable. My grandfather and father both died from this disease…neither smoked…so noone can say that smoking lead to him having pancreaic cancer. What a fucking idiot. I am glad I quit smoking cigs when I was 29. I smoked for 12 years. I kinda cheated though. I didn't do it cold turkey. I used the nicorette gum and bought an ounce of the wacky tobacky
With cigs there is two addictions. The nicotine and the actual habit of smoking. Believe it or not, inhaling smoke, and feeling it is addictive. That's the hardest part actually. The nicotine is really no big deal.
I used the gum to curb the nic fits, and smoked parts of a joint during a day (1-3 hits at once) to curb the smoke urges. Of course you could also use herb cigs or cloves etc. But the pot did help my nerves.
About a month of the nic gum and I was done. One day I actually vomited from the gum and figured I had enough (nicotine poisoning) I haven't smoked since. My gf at the time still and wife now still smokes. I am trying to get her to stop right as we speak. But we all know nagging doesn't help. You have to REALLY WANT to quit. Be really sick of it. Hate the cigs.
Now when I smell them I get nauseous. I still smoke the wacky stuff from time to time. (a few times a month) I am thinking about building a vaporizer.

Actually he would find out if he quit smoking, he'd be less stressed. Smoking cures stress because you are addicted to the nicotine. Nicotine doesn't last in the body a real long time.. so when you do smoke a cig, it makes you feel better because your body is craving Nicotine.
If your body stopped craving it, your nerves would be over-all better and you'd not have a need to smoke.

Not in my experience. Anything will work really if you have the desire and willpower to quit.
Quitting for someone else rarely works.

Dying or not, he is a role model and kids that see him smoking when he is sick will think it must be ok because Patrick does it.
He should at least not do it in public if he does. Not for his health, but for those that might pick it up because of him.

While this is true, we should never try to justify them, and we should attempt to rid ourselves of them as much as we can.
Some "demons" are worse than others. The tobacco demon happens to kill.

My grandpa died of pancreatic cancer - that shit was bad - and I can't help wondering if his years of smoking caused it, even though he quit smoking a good 15 years before he got cancer.
He has stage 4 pancreatic cancer perez. Nothing short of a miracle is going to save him now. He might as well enjoy the cigs.

We all die..sooner or later. Hey..wearing anti-perspirant (aluminum sulphide) can lead to alzheimers (red wine and pot used daily in moderate amounts can make it not so). Live how you want and hopefully your death will not be a bad one. My dad died of cancer and he never smoked or was affected by second hand smoke….Shit man…what can I blame now except for genes or possibly all of the other poisoness pollutants that we inhale/eat daily thanks to the chem corps. People if you do not want to be full of illness when you age, do yourselves a favour and stop eating processed foods and soda pop.
