Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes to iTunes

applelogo__opt.jpg

Inneresting changes to iTunes were announced at Tuesday's Macworld conference.

By May, all the music (about 10 million songs total) on iTunes will be available in "iTunes Plus" format, the DRAM-free 256-bit version that Apple introduced last year. As of Tuesday, only 8 million songs were available DRM-free.

What does DRM-free mean????

It means Apple will have less control of the shiz you buy from their music store. Currently, y'all are buying "FairPlay"-encrypted tracks that have loads of restrictions.

There's also going to be a change to the iTunes pricing model.

Apple will add new options for 69 cents and $1.29.

More songs will be offered at the lower price than the higher one, but industry experts assert that it's a change that the record companies pushed for so they could charge more for 'new' music.

Nothing is ever as good as it looks!

They're idiots. They shouldn't be charging more. That just makes illegal downloading more appealing.

  15. 15

DRM-free means digital rights management free

  16. 16

    …or pay nothing on limewire
    :)

  17. 17

Actually, it was the record companies who pushed Apple into offering their DRM versions. Apple fought against it.

  18. 18

Bastards!!! They shouldn't raise the price. Once they start, it won't stop.

  21. 21

    Shizzle! This sucks!

  22. 22

Good. It really used to piss me off when customers would call trying to put music on the players the company I worked for made, and found they couldn't because they were Itune files and could only be played on an ITunes Player. So basically they limited their music to Itune Players only. Stupid move becasue I made sure never to buy an itunes player because I don't like restrictions, opting to buy my mp3s from Amazon for only 99 cents. They were DRM free.

I don't swap music or use online trading sites so why should I be penalised. If they take the DRM off I'll definitely start buying music from Itunes.

I don't use Limewire, but have a question. Do you get spyware from it? What are the negatives to using it? I'm not sure about this iTunes pricing menu. It's very easy when everything is one price across the board, plus given our current economy, why would they be raising prices now??

  24. 24

iTunes is the best way to listen to your music, but I'm not wasting my money on shit I can download for free. Torrents + Limewire anyone?

  25. 25

Why buying MP3 when you can download FREE in the whole internet ????????????
    Stupide I-tunes Users !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. 26

Some people like to buy music from iTunes because it's ILLEGAL to download music from Limewire and from Torrents.

  27. 27

So…"only" 8 million of the 10 million songs in the iTunes Store are DRM-free? This doesn't sound like a big change.
