Patrick Swayze Fears He Only Has 2 Years to Live
More details from Barbara Walters' interview with Patrick Swayze are emerging.
Sadly, the actor admits he probably only has 2 years to live: "I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking. Two years seems likely if you're going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it."
Patrick stars in the new A&E drama, The Beast, which he filmed after his pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Of the 12-hour days he was required to put in for work, mostly outside in Chicago's cold, Swayze said, "I think everybody thought I was out of my mind, you know, thinking I'm gonna pull off a TV show."
He only missed a day and a half of work during the five months of filming!
And, given what he's going through, he did his work pain-killer free: "When you're shooting you can't do drugs. I can't do Hydrocodone or Vicodin or these kinds of things that take the edge off of it, ’cause it takes the edge off of your brain."
We hope he stops smoking AND that a cure is found!

I'm sorry, but why in the world would he sign up for an A&E show, working 12+ hours a day, when he only was less than 5 years left???!! Shit, i would be on permanent vacation, and enjoy myself to the fullest, ie skydiving, hiking a huge ass mountain or something… WITH MY FAMILY!

I don't like hearing this at all. I can't imagine what his poor wife is going thru too. They've been together forever. He's such a talented man, acting, dancing. His skit with Farley on SNL is one of my favorite all time TV memories.

jeez…at this point let the guy enjoy his smokes! It is hard as hell to quit and it puts your body under a lot of stress….I bet it would make his health get even WORSE to try and quit now by adding even more fatigue and anxiety. Smoking probably helps him relax and soothes him. Leave the dying man alone already!

uhm i know if he stopped smoking it doesn't mean it will save his life, but it's making him worse. He needs to stop smoking.

As with everyone that has to deal with this nasty disease I hope he's the one that can defy the odds. Sadly with this disease two years is optimistic even from the time of diagnosis, the majority are lucky to live a year.

I sure hope a cure is found in time for him. He and his wife are truly two of the nicest, most loving people in Hollywood and they deserve to have the extra time together.
My mother in law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September and died in December. Most people don't even realize they have it until it's spread to other organs. I wish him peace and hope it's quick. Cancer is no way to die!
my father in law passed away with the same cancer. he died 2 months after we found out, and he only started to feel sick a month prior to the diagnosis… kudos to swayze for being alive this long after being diagnosed. its a really deadly cancer… so scary
Why stop smoking if you're on your deathbed? If I were him, I'd do all the drugs in the world.
Stop slamming the poor guy for smoking. When you're given pretty much a "death sentence", you do what you can to deal. There are many more things he could do that would be much more detrimental to the public. He smokes. He has cancer. He's not going to survive. Give the guy a break!
He said the cancer is in his liver now too. He seemed to be struggling a bit off and on for breath on the Barbara Walters' interview. Sadly, I doubt he's got a year left, but he sure is a fighter.

In stage 4—he will be lucky to have 8 months left. That is terrible, but the way it usually works. As a smoker, he may have less.
Giving up his fags at this stage will not change one thing in his prognosis. He has been remarkable in not taking time off, which makes Kylie Minogue and her over hyped pea sized lump going on and on and on for past 4 years seem really trite and manufactured for PR career moves.Respect to Swayze for this example.Though it is highly unlikely they will find a cure for this cancer in time I do wish him good fortune ,and long may he keep his chin up with courage.He must have a really high pain threshold to cope so well without medication for pain.I was never a "fan" of his, but I have gotten huge respect for him in this tragic illness.
OMG patrick Swayze is so full of shit…he's not DYING! He's LYING! About a year ago he was looking like ass and was only given a couple of months to live then made this miraculous recovery…now he says "Oh I only have two years to live" blah blah blah all this and a hit new show? uhmmmm suuuuuuuure you're sick….suuuuuuuure….uh huh and what happens in two years? we'll all forget that he was supposed to die and he gets free publicity for his new show…well played…

Can everyone back off this guy for smoking! He's doing the best he can considering the circumstances and enormous stress of having a deadly disease. Quiting smoking now is not gonna take the cancer away. The damage has already been done and i think he knows that.
I had two family members die of pancreatic cancer last year. One died after only a few months. The other got about 2 years out of it. It is a really terrible disease and it crushes the person who has it. Made both of the people who were probably average/slightly overweight (what 50 year old guy isn't) lose nearly 100 lbs each. They both weighed around 100 lbs at their time of death. They looked like holocaust victims. It was so sad. I feel so bad for Patrick Swayze, he is in for a hard road.
