According to a new federal report, Mississippi is the state with the highest rate of teen pregnancy in America.

Mississippi's rate was more than 60 percent higher than the national average in 2006.

      This report reflects teen births, not pregnancies. Lots more babies are born to teen mothers in Miss because (1) their parents are more likely to be conservative Christians and (2) because there is ONE abortion clinic in the entire state (compared to 123 in the state of California)

      I also live in Mississippi and have for most of my life. I graduated from a major university and have a great job in marketing. My husband and most of my friends have also completed higher levels of education and hold great jobs, therefore not everyone in MS is completely ignorant and/or poor rednecks. Yes there are things that need to change about this state, but your assumptions are ridiculous. I agree that abstinence only education has led to the high teen pregnancy percentage, but its simply unfair for people to assume that everyone in this state falls into this category.

      ehh, this really pisses me off. I, like a few others have stated above, am too from Mississippi, but I'm not fucking religious or "ignorant." In fact, out of all my friends, only two of them are religious, and one's a hindu.

      Where I went to school (right outside of Jackson) they did teach us about safe sex. Even passed out condoms afterwards. So don't even think all of us in MS are rednecks. At my school, there were more scene kids and hipsters than hayseeds anyway.

      Oh, and btw, Jamie Lynn Spears DOES reside in Mississippi. And happens to be a total bitch. I know from personal expirence, haha. Peace.

I live in MS too and we weren't taught abstinence only education and we have a very low abortion rate and I wasn't aware we even had 1 clinic and I've never heard of anyone going there. And I'm a high school in MS and I can't remember seeing a pregnant teen, ever. Not that we have a lot of pregnancies is

      And you know else? Mississippians are, per capita, the most generous Americans when it comes to charitable giving. Even though we are among the poorest. I am proud as hell to be a Mississippian. I moved away for awhile and couldn't wait to get back. You want to know backwards? Try living in Texas for awhile. It's a special kind of hell.

      People here are sweet, kind, generous and moral. And yes, we DO like to fuck. And that's not a bad thing.

      And yeah, we have a lot of teen pregnancies. Sucks. But at least our babies get born. We have a very low rate of abortion.

      This. I was raised in Mississippi, and the only sex education we got in school was the standard "this is how babies are made" in biology. You're not required to take a health course. I had some friends who did take it, and the spend one day on sex ed. It's an abstinence-only course. Keep in mind, this is the same school district (Rankin County) where teachers could refuse to teach fourth graders the theory of evolution by announcing to the class that God made the world and that was the end of it.

      im 17 years old ( almost 18 ) but i got pregnant at 17 , i miscarried in the first trimester ive also been with my boyfriend for 3 and a half years .. anyways i dont think 17 is that bad considering i know girls around where i live that are 14 and having babies that their parents pay for. At least jamie-lynn has taken responsibility for her actions. and you cant blame teenage pregnancy on her .. its been happening for years and it is never gonna stop .. if you watch TV and see someone pregnant and go " hey i wanna be pregnant because they are" thats weird

      I think it's funny how everyone is "she lives in LOUISIANA!!!" she doesn't live there. She lives around McComb, MS. And why does everyone have to hate on MS. I live here. Born and raised in Biloxi. I think we're the kindest of people. Some may not condone teen pregnancy, but at least they are raising their child. And how can most of the people say "oh it's because they're alll black". Yeah, not true. There are many different colors shapes and sizes having children. Don't blame it on one race. Believe it or not, some of the teen mothers are actually GREAT moms.

      Well im from Mississippi N i can say that alot of girls get pregnant but atleast we keep them instead of being like other girls in other states that just go out n get abortions cuz they cant handle it.
