The Seattle Post Intelligencer is up for sale!

And, it's parent company, Hearst, said that if it can't find a buyer in the next 60 days the paper would likely close or continue to exist only online.

It's only a matter of time before a major US city loses a paper. Very sad.

Whatever, nobody reads the PI anyway. Everyone reads the Seattle Times if they want the news. I hope they don't get rid of their rotating globe on the top of their building down on the waterfront though! :(

    19. 19

the PI is allways for sale….geez

      CAREFUL, PEREZ ….

      I live in Seattle.

      All is NOT lost.

Don't get everyone needlessly excited, please.

The 'paper is still most viable!!

      NOT 6-feet under quite yet.

Boeing cutting 4,500 jobs is bigger news.

Re: Oh Resist Her – that's what i was going to say too. that's been there since the day i was born i think. i wouldn't hold my breath though. remember the old rainier beer building off of i-5 in seattle? they swore that they weren't going to change the outside of the building but alas, it's fucking tulley's coffe now. it looks dumb now.

Very bad news for Seattle. It had looked like it was going to hold out, but there was a large private donation to the Seattle Times, the competitive paper which caters to the more conservative Eastern Sound Communities of Bellevue and Redmond. The PI, which was in tune with liberal feel of Seattle, and had a fantastic editorial staff would have stayed open if it was not for that donation. Sad times when a city as big as Seattle and it's sister Sound Cities can only support one paper.

I'm a Seattleite and can tell you that this is not a surprise, but a long time coming. It was the same thing with WAMU! Not a shocker.

I work for a Hearst newspaper and we are doing really well…. it's tough times for smaller papers though. I feel for the employees and their families. :(
