Barack Selects Gay Bishop For Lincoln Memorial Invocation

Is Obama trying to make nice?
The Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop - the Rt. Rev. V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire - will kick off the Presidential Inauguration Week with an invocation on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial this Sunday. Obama will be in attendance.
This comes after Obama's controversial and disappointing selection of 'phobe Rick Warren for the Inauguration invocation.
And, of course, as we all know, Barack does NOT believe in gay marriage!
We think he's just trying to make amends, but of course, a source says otherwise. "Robinson was in the plans before the complaints about Rick Warren. Many skeptics will read this as a direct reaction to the Warren criticism — but it’s just not so."
According to an inauguration official, Barack selected Robinson because he "has respect for the Rt. Rev. Robinson, who offered his advice and counsel over the past couple of years. It also has the benefit of further reinforcing our commitment to an open and inclusive inaugural."
More like a contradictory inaugural!
Even though we're a little skeptical, we're also a little relieved.
Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solmonese said, "Bishop Robinson models what prayer should be — spiritual reflection put into action for justice. It is encouraging that the president-elect has chosen this spiritual hero, and that should remain our focus today."

i think rick warren was selected shortly after plans were made to have the gay bishop there as well, so i think it is just a coincidence.

Obama is trying to unite our very divided country. Yes, it will seem contradictory. He will not be a perfect President in the sense of maintaining a left view or right view. He will actually be blurring the lines, because that is what we have to do in order to come together again and be on the same side. I think you'd be surprised, Perez… your rights are coming. It just takes time to get there and a lot of smoothing over. He has to gain respect from everyone before people truly hear him.

I remember when Bishop Robinson became bishop becuase it was a really big deal everywhere but especially in the Episcopal church. Many people have left and formed there own churches with the Anglican Communion- like England etc..- who don't support America having Bishop Robinson

Barack said right from the beginning he had different ministers with different viewpoints that would be speaking at the inauguration. Get a life perez. Most ministers from different religions don't believe in homosexuality. Just deal with it. Be happy he chose an openly gay minister because they are few and far between. If you believe in the Bible it does say it is an abomination to the Lord for man to lie with man as he does with woman. That would make one think the Lord dosen't approve of homosexuality so you can't expect people of any of the Churches to endorse it. Be real.

It seems pretty shallow that the fact that this guy is homosexual equates to being a "spiritual hero," versus the other guy being super bad for not endorsing gay marriage. What about… I don't know… how well they communicate their Biblical understanding or even just the love of Jesus to their respective congregations? I know there are some people who are vested in fighting vehemently about the issue and I understand the vehemence on both sides, but give it a rest. It's an inauguration. Strikes me that the choice of officiants be that of the person involved in it — much like most people choose the priest or minister who performs a baptism.
