The decline of American Idol continues!
A new season of Idol premiered on Tuesday, but its ratings were down 10 percent from last season's prem.
However, Idol continues to dwarf its competition by winning its 2-hour time slot with a 16.7 rating.
Last season's debut scored a 18.6 rating.
Good luck with the rest of the season, Simon and crew.
Hope the changes y'all plan to kick in help your ratings down the road.

Part of the reason all these shows have low ratings is that people are using the DVR and TiVo more. Nobody watches anything when it's on…we save it for later.

I watched last night. It's sort of like a book you read… Even though you still may not be interested in it, you started it and now you gotta finish it. I started from season 1 so I will continue till the end, or at least another season.

I watched and loved it. I wasn't so sure about Kara but looked her up and went to her website. She has chops. She can sing. And I didn't realize how many artists he wrote for and big ones at that. Ratings down yeah! Most people in the last few years skip the auditions and start watching during hollywood week anyway! I have been to two tours and loved them.

I watched it, but thought it was pretty boring. But I always favoured it to Canadian Idol which isn't even going to be running this year

Yes, I watched it and will continue to watch it!! I must say one thing, though, that new judge, Kara, is an egotistical bitch!! I think she may hinder ratings with her self-righteousness and cocky attitude. She just busted out singing during another person's audition to "showcase" her talent, and then got pissed when no one agreed that she was better than the girl auditioning. Please, bitch, it's not about you.
i like watching the really bad performers along with the really good ones.
this year, they say they're really going to cut back on the shows with the bad performers, which basically makes it only half as interesting for me. so i'll only watch until that time.

Ratings are down because they did a sitty job of advertising this season… ever "fan" that I mentioned it was coming on at 8pm said they didn't even hear about it. Oh well, all things come to an end at some point.

I thought it was a good improvement over last year. Seems like there will be more focus on the talent than the drama.

I watched the opening and there were nothing but the bad singers it seemed.
So I took that as a omen to turn it off.

My husband made me watch it for about 10 minutes before I got up and walked away. The new judge sucks. If she wants to be like Simon she is going to have to tone it down. Her remarks make her sound catty and immature. I really didn't like American Idol before and I really don't like it NOW!!!!

I don't know why last season was so criticized, I thought it was one of their better years. I liked that most of the contestants had talent as opposed to the Sanjaya types. This season they made a lot of changes and I bet it will hurt them. Regardless they were going to lose viewers because every show does. I didn't know it was on last night, so I'll have to check out the new judge next episode.
I stopped watching after season two so i guess I dont really count . But I watch the idol replay or what ever it is called were they talk to the passed contestants about there time on the show. It is always pretty good

I stopped watching it after like, the 3rd season but I wached it again last night because I heard it was gonna change a lot and I really liked it! I especially love the new judge! She's just as bitchy as simon and there was a fight with that bikini girl and I LOVED IT! Lol, I think her bitchy-ness may have what it takes to save the show! And also, I really don't see why she hated the bikini girl so much, I mean don't get me wrong cuz I only like guys, but she was really pretty and I actually did think she had a great voice! I thought she was gonna suck, but she was actually pretty good. I think that they found some SERIOUS talent this year and I can't wait to see if we can find another carrie underwood or kelly clarkson who in my opinion were the 2 best winners EVER!! And Jordin Spaks has a very good career too! It just matters if our winners can put out music we like as opposed to singing songs that others made hits. Like look at last season, david cook won but david archuletta is doing better on the charts. The reason why some winners fail has nothing to do with talent or likability, but whether or not people like THEIR music.
