American Idol Doing Better - Barely

As we mentioned yesterday, American Idol continues to go down in the ratings season after season.
Tuesday's premiere saw a 10% slide in viewership from last season's opener. But, here's a pleasant surprise. For the first time in five seasons, the second episode has gone up in the ratings.
Wednesday's episode grew 1% in adults 18-49, which is big news considering that the second episodes of the seasons have been dropping in ratings, notably, since 2004.
Wednesday's show also retained 99% of its 2008 audience.
Mike Darnell of Fox said this morning, “The little changes we’re making are having a big impact. It's really amazing. To be up in the demo — that hasn’t happened in five years, and I was shocked that we ever did it before. And to be at 100% audience retention from last year in this environment for the biggest show on TV? That’s fantastic."
Wonder why the sudden "spike"? Were people interested to tune in and see that new judge Kara DioGuardi? Has your opinion of Kara changed from the first episode?

i usually hate american idol. i mean, it embaresses me when ppl do bad! but, seeing as there was nothing else on, i watched it. i guess it wasn't too bad. jason castro's bro making it was pretty cool, especially when other contestants siblings didn't. doubt it'll be on my must watch, but i dealt with it.

Get rid of Kara. We should have a petition to get rid of her. She's got the attitude of "No, you sing it like this or this way" The only reason why ratings were up were because nothing else was on.

Paula is still the heart and soul of IDOL. She is the only reason I watch the show. She gives people hope in life and in their careers and the world could use alittle more of it in these difficult times. GO PAULA!!!
Please don't watch its borning same shit every year I'm over it. It was funny the 1st 2 years it's just not worth the time to watch it.

American Idol is the BEST show on TV. There is no other show that compares. As far as Kara, she's a snobby, snot, snot face. She thinks she's above everyone else, which is a huge turn off. Just sayin'.
Last year Randy made it almost unwatchable for me, he was so desperate for any attention that he kept constantly talking with the "Dogs" and "Yo Yo Yo's" that Simon couldn't get a word in edgewise. This year with the new judge talking more Randy is not getting as much talk time so I can watch again.
The first episode I didn't watch because there was another show I liked better, but yesterday I watched most of it because all the other channels had crap I never watch. Simple as that.
The new judge, Kara……nothing special, I don't think she adds anything new.

NASTY human being. This girl comes in with a binder full of songs she's written. Kara is falsly flattering, telling her she has really put a lot of work and effort into it and that's great. Then the girl leaves, and the bitch says something to the effect "if that's the kind of person that's my fan, I must be crap!" It was a backstabbing, nasty, BITCH move and made me dislike her instantly.

I just don't get where they're getting these bogus numbers from! I used to be a huge dedicated viewer for the first 2 or 3 seasons but it's gone so far down hill that I didn't even bother watching AI this week. I know a LOT of viewers who've just given up on it so retaining 99% at '08 just seems like bullshit to me!!
