The station is, however, going to continue to exist online.
This is the statement they have released on their official website:
This is an important message for the Indie 103.1 Radio Audience -
Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over this frequency effective immediately. Because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured, stations in this market are being forced to play too much Britney, Puffy and alternative music that is neither new nor cutting edge. Due to these challenges, Indie 103.1 was recently faced with only one option — to play the corporate radio game.
We have decided not to play that game any longer. Rather than changing the sound, spirit, and soul of what has made Indie 103.1 great Indie 103.1 will bid farewell to the terrestrial airwaves and take an alternative course.
This could only be done on the Internet, a place where rules do not apply and where new music thrives; be it grunge, punk, or alternative - simply put, only the best music.
For those of you with a computer at home or at work, log on to www.indie1031.com and listen to the new Indie 103.1 - which is really the old Indie 103.1, not the version of Indie 103.1 we are removing from the broadcast airwaves.
We thank our listeners and advertisers for their support of the greatest radio station ever conceived, and look forward to continuing to deliver the famed Indie 103.1 music and spirit over the Internet to passionate music listeners around the world.

It's a sad day, indeed Mario. Indie music should be cultivated for the integrity it brings to music. Corporate record labels have bastardized the music business by forcing talentless hacks down our throats. Nickleback, Creed, Saliva? That's not music… especially that Nickleback crap. I never listened to 103.1, but knowing it was an indie station in L.A., it had to be good.

hey….I used to work for Groove 103.1 in the morning with the poorman…it's natalia….hey, it's sad to see what's going on with indie, but, i believe it's smart in the protection of what they are about and staying as real to the game as possible. i work middays out here in miami for 93rock, and understand the constraints…either you play by the rules, or don't play at all. that's life in radio…it's not easy to keep a job in this industry…just keep going to live shows and support the rock community…including the house music community too!!!!

It has been a sad decade for the music industry. When most radio stations are owned by the same comglomerate corporation (ie. Clear Channel) and the parent company dictates what is on the playlist, how can any true music lover listen to the trash that is called pop music. As stated in their letter, even 'edgy' bands are hardly that. I suggest that all mature (no tweeners please) music lovers seek out a huge pool of excellent music by listening to internet radio/.
If you really want to get back at the man, you can listen to The Scraps out of Southeast Texas. Those guys are real roots rock n' roll. www.thescraps.net
Same thing, EXACT same thing happened to 99x in Atlanta a couple years ago. It was the only decent radio station in town. They played anything from Dave Matthews Band to Tool to Korn and had awesome programs, brought tons of acts to town. They replaced it with a pop station and made it an online-only format. This is pitiful. Give us some variety and get Rihanna the fuck off my radio every 2 minutes!

Doesn't sound like most people realize that indie is not an independent radio station. They are owned by a large corporation that owns many other radio stations, tv stations and billboards. They may play good music but they should certainly not be touted as a true independent station. They are far from it.
