Thankfully, the plane landed in one piece!!!!!

A US Airways plane taking off from New York's La Guardia airport 'crashed' into the Hudson River, near Manhattan's 57th Street on Thursday afternoon.

Geese flying into one of the plane's engines are supposedly to blame.

The plane is intact and passengers are being rescued by boats right now.

There were 146 passengers on board the flight, along with 5 crew members.

There is no report on their conditions. Everyone made it out okay!

Some of the passengers were seen standing on the wings of the plane.

The plane was heading to Charlotte, NC.

Developing!

Looks like everyone is ok right now…there are passengers reporting on what happened on CNN and NBC

  21. 21

I always use Lagaurdia to fly and I always imagine this happening whenever I take off or land because its right next to the water…. I dunno what I would do if this happened to me (prolly shit my pants)

Thank God everyone made it out ok.

  22. 22

I totally just heard that everyone is out of the plane! yah I dont like to fly last time i did it was with us airways and i was on the same kind of plane. I am totally glad to know they float!

  23. 23

All 151 passengers were rescued from the plane. The pilot of the plane was a genius for landing that way. They all survived because the pilot and crew.

  24. 24

and the quick thinking of the NYC rescue teams…

  25. 25

that pilot and co-pilot are 2 badass MOTHER FUCKERS. Its insane how they landed that plane in 1 piece

  26. 26

    19th!!!

Re: MOOSE-KNUCKLE IN THE JUNGLE!! – no…they actually are :-/

  31. 31

Wow, see this is why I never choose to connect in LaGuardia…too close to the water! And now look what happened, crazy.

  32. 32

    HORRIBLE!!!!

  33. 33

This is HORRIBLE! Perez, you forgot to link to your chart-topping book Red Carpet Suicide (or whatever its called).

  34. 34

Amazing pilot able to land it in the Hudson with out damaging the plane!

  35. 35

Re: The Legend that is MILKY – #6 I'd rather get my headlines from Teddy.

  36. 36

I live here in N.Y. and hear that everyone has been evacuated! I'm glad everyone is OK….all we need is another tragedy!

  37. 37

this really sucks, its so scary because I work close to the hudson. I hope no one is hurt!

  38. 38

    EVERYONE IS O.K.

  39. 39

Now that everyone's safe, perhaps they'll sink the plane and turn it into one of those underwater museums that are all the rage. Load it up with seahorses and kelp… it would be adorable!

  40. 40

    yikkkesss
thats the flight that takes you to Wilmington, NC.. so I hope that none of the One Tree Hill cast were on the plane!

  41. 41

Re: Mando25 – BLAME YOUR MOTHER FOR BRINGING YOU TO THE WORLD SHITHEAD!!!!!
    LEAVE CANADA OUT OF THIS!

  42. 42

Re: harrybalsac – shut the fuck up you fucking annoying fat bastard.

  43. 43

You know where this one is going…. Geese?!? Someone is bound to blame Canada for this one too!! :(

and the temperatures here is in the teens! makes it even worst.

  45. 45

Re: Harligh Quinn – I hear that, I live in upstate NY and I never choose to connect at LaGuardia because it's soo close to the water…scary

  46. 46

ALL THE PASSENGERS ARE OUT!!!YOURE SLOW!!!!

  47. 47

Re: sharpie – ARE YOU KIDDING ME

  48. 48

Thank goodness everyone is allright. Bravo to the pilot and the crew for handling an emergency situation very well!

  49. 49

Uhm, TWO engines were damaged, not 1. Come on Perez, use a reliable source.

  50. 50

Re: dumbnhung – theyre dragging it out right now…they are going to investigate the shit out of plane. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  51. 51

    I FUCKING LOVE NEW YORKERS!!!!!
    THANK GOD!
    A HAPPY ENDING. YEAH!

  52. 52

how scary!! i have been watching this on tv and i could not even imagine being on that plane! thank God the pilot handled everything the way he did and that there were survivors…

  53. 53

  54. 54

a girl I work with said her father is on that plane:(

  55. 55

Re: J-Love – THE AIRPORT doesnt matter, people! i live in tampa and our airport is seriously….next to the water! whether the airport is next to the water or land, it all depends on the condition of the plane…if your plane were to crash…what would you prefer? water…?? or LAND? where your PLANE FILLED WITH FUEL will crash into land and explode. ill go for the WATER.

  56. 56

Re: Harligh Quinn – same here. landing is quite a treat.

  57. 57

    LOVE THAT PILOT!
    GOD IS MY CO PILOT!

  58. 58

Re: Stevie D. – stevie, prob with lga is the size issues. there is no space in the lga area. small runways. so it makes the whole experience a bit scarier, so to speak.

  59. 59

that's actually somewhat comforting in that I always wondered how the fuck would a plane crash in water and people would survive. Thankfully no one was hurt!

  60. 60

Re: SWEETPIECE! – boy, you are full of fire and fight today, aren't ya? i responded to you back on teddy.
    xox

  61. 61

Was that Jeremy Piven I just saw getting off the plane? If not, it was his twin brother.

  62. 62

Watched it happen from my office window. It was a jaw-dropping and numbing sight.

  63. 63

Yeah, I'm watching it on TV right now. Everybody got out okay. They are blaming a flock of birds, but there not sure which kinds of birds at the moment.

There showing all the people right now coming off the lifeboats and some are soaking wet, others are 100% dry.

  64. 64

Re: The Legend that is MILKY – i see…i just googled la guardia. theres nothing there!! lol.

but seriously..when i went to new york, i flew into jersey. and to think it was a bad idea at the time…

  65. 65

I swear I saw jeremy piven getting off the boats…

  66. 66

    Update Please

  67. 67

its crazy how whenever i flew…i ipoded through the safety speech. because even the most fearful person would be like.."is this necessary?" cause whats on the back of everyones mind is that if we crash..we all die…we dont need seat cushions. but looking at this..holy shit. we DO need that! the pilot couldnt land that big ass plane in such a clusterfuck of new york so he opted for the water..which was the smartest thing he could do. i never thought a water landing would be such a success…

  68. 68

This is amazing!!! I love New Yorkers!!! The pilot collided with a flock of geeseand the engines were screwed. So he coasts his plane to a water landing, the New York Hudson River ferry boats surrounded the plane, tossed out life preservers and the Coast Guard arrived and the people from the plane were all standing outside on the wings, and were rescued!!! Now it looks like the plane is starting to sink, but this is amazing that the people survived.

  69. 69

i just read a headline that said.."bird struck plane"

HEY ASSHOLE, ITS THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. 70

Can I just say. The scariest take off and landing I ever had was Washington, D.C. National Airport. They are right next to the Potomac River and they have the shortest runway with the sharpest turn! They gotta do it "just right" or you gotta swim.

  71. 71

I work right near where the plane crashed, then saw it floating down the Hudson river. thankfully nobody was seriously hurt, but many suffer from hypothermia. It hit a flock of geese! Its freezing in NYC today those poor people much be so cold!!!

  72. 72

Re: SWEETPIECE! – HEY SWEET! I'M EXPERIMENTING WITH PANINIS USING FRUITS, MEATS AND CHEESES! I MISS TALKING ABOUT RECIPES WITH YOU, MILKY AND MAMAJUD!

  74. 74

Re: Stevie D. – Flying over or near water just scares me, I'll take my chances and say land.lol

  75. 75

The plane just floated by my frickin' window!! The NY Waterways Ferry and those awesome tugboats are fantastic! So is the Coast Guard, and all the other first responders!

  76. 76

Re: lemonbird – Word, I've been to the DC airport and it is scary flying in and taking off…not a fun experience.

  77. 77

Re: J-Love – giiiirrrrlll..!! i flew a 13-hour flight to HAWAII OVER WATER!!!! back in march…with us airways. it was so turbulent. i was waiting for the oxygen masks to drop down. im never flying us scareways AGAIN!

  78. 78

that plane was so lucky that the ruined engines didnt ruin any hydraulics or anything. cause i did my research (im studying to become a helicopter pilot), that at least one of the engines holds all communication tools, electricity on the plane, etc…if you lost one of those engines, kiss your ass goodbye.

  79. 79

Re: Hot Monkey Love Obama Style! – Interesting! I did talk about cooking today! Ha!

  80. 80

"He's a danger to everything in the sky…yes birds too"

  81. 81

Re: J-Love – darling, by the outcome of today's frightful crash, take water ANY day over land. water…softer and cushy, land, not so much so and the plane would have broken, hundreds if not thousands would have been killed. plane and on land. it would have caught fire, etc.
todays incident showed the marvelous skills of the pilot and co-pilot. they did it right in an awful situation. KUDOS!

  82. 82

Re: Mando25 – yes canada totally caused that crash…………. uhhh NO!

  83. 83

I was on that same plane/flight about a month ago. Geez to think. Glad to see they are ok.

  84. 84

I 'm from Greece but this was live all over the media here for about an hour.that was kinda crazy if you think that it was caused by GEESE(??!!!!).unbelievable.we should be glad that it was just an accident caused by GEESE (I can't get over this) and not s/th worse (u know what I mean) that would end up in a tragedy.and thank God ALL the passengers are alive.the Coast guard there did an excelent job.

  85. 85

Re: Stevie D. – Yeah that does sound pretty scary, I'm terrified to fly over water. I flew to Florida just a cpl months ago and realized we weren't over land and freaked out but what could I do. I've also had horrible turbulend flying home from Vegas but you were over water so that trumps everything.lol

  86. 86

Re: The Legend that is MILKY – lol point taken!

  87. 87

Re: J-Love – well, i hope this makes you feel ok, but water landings have a better survivial rate..ive read that somewhere..and the crash earlier today confirms that!!!

  88. 88

that could have been me on that plane, i fly from the city to Charlotte all the time. i also only like to use LGA because JFK is usually more xpensive. i always thought i have the worst luck when i fly cuz its my luck my flight always gets delayed or stranded somewhere and i was planning a flight around this time but decided against it till next month so i see it could have been much worse! I'm so glad they're alright, it's truly a miracle the plane landed in one piece.

  89. 89

Re: sharpie – where did you hear that from?

  90. 90

ask anybody that flys out of laguardia… its the SCARIEST SHIT IN THE WORLD…. one second your on the ground next your flying over the water praying you dont land in it. always my first thought, i can't believe it actually happened

  91. 91

    Re: prettypuss – update:
    HER FATHER IS THE PILOT!!!!!!!

  92. 92

CNN report from the crash site from the hudson river
    watch here: CNN LIVE

  93. 93

So glad everyone's OK. That is fucking terrifying.

  94. 94

Re: SweetPat – He/she was just being a smartass in poor taste, SweetPat. Obviously Canada is not to blame, and geese aren't that smart, so they probably didn't know something was closing in on them until the engine had already started to suck them in. It's like a vaccuum times a thousand.

  95. 95

Re: HollywoodTown – Fuckin' kiss my fat hairy ass mother fucker!

  96. 96

Re: Stevie D. – hey, if you were studying to become a helicopter pilot then wouldn't you know that if a plane's engines shut down and the plane loses electricity and hydraulics, the plane would automatically deploy the RAT (ram-air turbine) which would provide limited electricity and hydraulic control. I don't mean this in a saucy way or looking to start a fight, I was just stating a fact!

  97. 97

Eerie that the Chinese Year of the Rat (which is about to end in 2 weeks, thankfully) states that plane crashes occur the most during that period…But the good thing (if I can say that) is I have noticed that with all the crashes that have occurred from Feb 7, 08 until now, that only a few have NOT survived as opposed to all being killed.

I am glad that no one was hurt!!!

  98. 98

So lemme get this straight: A plane lands in the water and everyone safely escapes. Birds caused the plane to land……
    ..
    .
    .
    .
    Why is this national news??

  99. 99

Re: prettypuss – OMG!!! Tell her he has fans!!! HE IS FANTASTIC!

  100. 100

Re: vampyra – It is called a "Happy Ending" for once. What with more Bush fuckups headlining! Shit we will be paying for that asshole for generations! Got in, got his friends some dough, fucked up the reserve so SS will be gone, TOTALLY FUCKED UP GUANTANAMO, MADE THE WORLD HATE US…..shall I go on?
    .
    HAPPY ENDING. NEEDED IT!
