Tom Cruise has been in South Korea promoting his widely panned Hitler assassination movie, Valkyrie. And, during one of his interview pit stops Cruise told a reporter, "I've always wanted to kill Hitler. As a child, I used to wonder why someone didn't stand up and kill him."
As a child we wondered how Santa Claus was able to deliver gifts to all kids ’round the world in one night.

Tom was obviously saying what most people with a brain have once thought…….why the German people didn't stand up get themselves a strong leader and turn against Hitler when they realised his evil intentions……but there are soooo many social reasons and consequences that are involved with this issue- it's litterally a mindfield!
Since Hitler was ALREADY DEAD when TC was born, how could he have wanted to kill him? See, his craziness doesn't even make sense (must be why they call it crazy). Wondering why someone else didn't kill him, well, perhaps.
I saw Valkyrie, and it wasn't horrible. TC made some unintentionally funny moves with his fake arm stump, though, and that destroyed the whole "intense drama" thing he was trying to get going.

Why do his comments surprise people - did you not study WWII and the holocaust as kids? As a child, I could never understand why no one killed Hitler. I always thought if I'd lived in Germany in 1940 I hoped I'd be as brave as the resistance fighters who did try to kill him. Maybe you should brush up on your history. I wouldn't say Valkyrie was widely panned. It got 57% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which is only three percentage points away from a fresh rating. And it did make back its production budget despite the fact that it hasn't been released in any major countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.

When I was a kid and was taught about the atrocities that were commited during WWII, I too thought about why no one tried to kill Hitler and probably even uttered the same words 'man, I wished I would have wanted to kill him'.
