      Well, although recording audio during a show is ALSO illegal, it certainly made my day.
      I work at a theatre, and you have NO IDEA how fucking annoying it is with stupid hick tourist, who clearly have NEVER been to a theatre, who take pictures during the show! It's so distracting, and I am so happy she called them out on it!
      I've seen a few other stage actors stop a show so that they can tell someone to stop taking pictures… or to hang up their cellphones…. or to stop talking…. or to even stop chewing their gum so loud! But THIS was by far the best call-out I've ever seen!!
      Good for her! I hope the dumbass that was taking pictures learned their lesson!
      Oh, and Gypsy is a fantastic show!

      It's awful that people were taking pictures during a show, really awful. It's very distracting to people in the audience and the actors on stage. But you know what's even more distracting? The star of the show breaking character to have a total bitch fest!! She was totally right to be pissed and to say what she said, but at least wait till the scene is over, geez!

It would have been one thing if she had not broke character…and lets face it, with that show it would have been EASY to do what she did and keep it in character and in line with the play…I mean, come on, the whole damn thing takes place on a stage. Anyway, she should be ashamed of herself for doing what she did. She broke the fourth wall and that is like the number one rule of theatre.       It wasn't her place to stop her performance to yell at the audience. Isn't that the job of the ushers? Her breaking character is more distracting that people taking pictures. That was very unprofessional of her.

      I WAS THERE!
      Oh God it was the best night of my life. There were a few mistakes here and there, but when she literally stopped the show during the showstopper, I immediately got up and clapped.
      They warned about stuff like this happening.
      She's not being a bitch. This is part of her reputation. She's done it in Sweeney Todd too, if I'm correct. And her offstage personality is very shy and sweet.
      It's illegal to do this and it's absolutely brilliant to call them off.
      Greatest performance I have ever seen, all and all.

      I think my favorite part is the fact that the person recording is no better than the person taking the pictures except they didn't get caught. You can't take pictures or recordings.

As I imagine it will be eventually will be anyway, since most of those people are busy working and trying to pay the bills. If you can't even control your audience or it's beneath you to educate new theatre-goes, I doubt you have a clue as to who the rude ones in the crowd are. We don't seem to have more than a few and far between issues with this at any of our local performing arts events.

      go patti? that's so incredibly unprofessional to stop the show because people are taking pictures. a real performer would continue, make a mental note and have the people removed after the scene or during intermission (one would think the ushers would take note as well). she doesn't respect the theater, she's being just as disrespectful as they are…i would be angry if she stopped the show i paid (too much) money for, because she was uncomfortable with picture taking. in Shakespeare's day, they threw food and drank beer!

      Tori Amos did something very similar at one of her concerts when some girl got up in the middle of one of her songs to go to the bathroom. She had the girl and her friend thrown out of the show. Look for it on Youtube if you don't believe me. While I think it's rude to take photos at a show, you have to consider the people doing it were (past tense) probably big fans.

      There are reasons for rules and why the theater asks people politely not to do something, even though it may seem harmless to them. People should follow them instead of this fucking attitude that they can do whatever they want. That is what is wrong with society today.
