   Yea the hat she wore has to go but her singing wasn't too bad. I mean it was freezing and I suppose that could have affected her voice. I have to admit I was brought to tears when I heard her sing. Quite an emotional, amazing and historical day.

    Last few times of seeing the "Queen of Soul" perform, she was NOT on her game. Old, morbidly obese, no breath control whatsoever! Just listen to the first line in "My Country Tis of Thee", she can't even sing the first two words without a breath. The break sounds like she's referring to an intimate body part……and NOT the "Count-ry"….tee he he he.

    She is a legend…however, that being said, there are times when legends should gracefully step out of the limelight before they become a parody of the way they were. I think this is true in Aretha's case. Also, she did not sing in 20 degree weather…the entire speaker's podium was heated to 76 degrees.
    There is a website up already that lets you see yourself wearing her hat!

    Oh poor Aretha. Remember she sang when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his 'I Have a Dream" speech. That was over forty years ago. It was less about her voice than the symbolism that she sang "God Bless America" when Dr. King gave his speech. Her hat was fabulous.     I thought it was very beautiful and well-executed. This is classic soul, not some amalgam of soul with other genres that we are used to hearing on the radio. I also thought she looked beautiful. That is the way many older African-American women dress for church services.
