"Miracle on the Hudson" Survivors Get $5,000 Pay Day Each

We'd be surprised if anyone got their luggage back in good condition!
U.S. Airways has issued each survivor of the flight that made an emergency landing on NY's Hudson River on January 15th a check for $5,000.
Any passenger belongings recovered must be fully analyzed as part of the crash investigation, and it can take months!
In a note that went out with the checks, an airline suit said:
"The National Transportation Safety Board has now begun their investigation of this accident, and we are offering our full participation and cooperation… Investigatory protocol requires that the aircraft and all of its contents must be examined and weighed prior to releasing any items onboard in order to verify the weight and balance on the aircraft. … The process is to weigh all items in their current state, dry them for eight weeks and then weigh them again. This means we cannot return your items to you until the NTSB recovers and releases them, a process that will likely take several months. It is also possible that some items may be unrecoverable."
The airline also included checks to reimburse the survivors for the costs of their tickets.
The money is nice, but….

Yeah like the dumfuks from Houston who are suing continental for surviving the Denver crash during the holidays. Idiots. The woman said I was so frightened for my life then after the crash I realized I was still alive. Now I am suing. I mean how stupid. These people on this plane are walking miracles. The fact they are getting 5K is also cool. They shouldn't sue. The pilots are angels who gave them their life. I think it is a blessing to have a 2nd chance at life and for them to sue would be an insult to God.

I think the $5000 is good enough on the money side of it plus the reimbursement of the plane tickets, but I also think they should get free tickets for life after what they went through, and the people that were hospitalized should get ALL their ER bills paid in full by the Airline. If people from that flight sue then that shows what kind of people they are… I mean what will they really be suing for anyway?? They came out alive and most of them unhurt.

Okay, fine $5,000 is a decent amount, but they need to give them free airline tickets for life. I mean, if I was one of those passengers I wouldn't want to step foot on that airlines plane again, nor would I want and family or friend to either… free plane ticket might help sway feelings.

that is an unimaginable nightmare. i always wonder minutes after taking off and into the sky, what if the plane…that is horrible thank God everyone was ok.
i think they should just pay for the hospital fees. everyone who wants more is just being selfish. 5,000 is more than enough. no one died. and you cant avoid hitting birds on a plane.. its not the airlines fault.

Oh please with airline restrictions on luggage these days these people were out 4 shirts 2 pairs of pant, a shoe or two and probably a nice camera. 5000 can definitely cover that. Now the question is if they have to accept that as settlement from the airline or if they can reject that and go for pain and suffering to get more. All I am saying is . . . you got out alive, if it were my family memebers on board, that would be enough.

Maybe they can file class actions on ALL birds, because the are a menace to paint on Hummers, cause unsightly poo on monuments, shed feathers on my lawn, and they smell really bad in groups.
