Original Karate Kid Doesn't Agree With Remake

Ralph Macchio - the original Karate Kid - does not approve of the Will and son Jayden Smith remake.
Macchio is pretty sure the flick will flop because he says that the public is sick and tired of studios making crappy remakes.
In a new interview, Ralph says, "From my personal view, filling the void of what Mr. Miyagi was - and the magic of that character - is going to be the toughest task. I don't know where the romantic story-arc goes [with Jayden Smith] at that age."

This guy may have a point if it were any other actor, but everything Will Smith touches turns to gold, so I think the movie will do fine and I would probably see it.

No, I won't see it unless I am really bored and suddely curious. The Karate Kid (and 2 and 3) were some of my favorite movies. Ralph and Pat Morita were a legend and those films are legends, I don't care what anyone says. It was more than just 80's fluff. You can't remake those films, and even The Next Karate Kid (with Hillary Swank) sucked. I think it's interesting how Ralph's big movies were ONLY The Karate Kid films. But Hillary started with the crappy sequil and ended up a huge Oscar Winning Star.

I agree that it will be tough to replace that Mr. Miyagi character… the whole romantic story line sucked in the first one so why even bother having it in the remake?
Nonetheless, you couldn't pay me to see that movie, especially since the star got the lead role due to his father's talent not his own.

Remakes are what the movie industry does in order to make some money. They are nothing but fillers and the Karate Kid remake is gonna fucking suck, because no one wants to twatch a stupid remake of an awesome classic movie.
I agree. When I heard they were remaking it, I was disgusted. It got worse when they said it was going to be Jayden, as I've heard from several people that they think he is a horrible actor. Hollywood needs some original ideas and to stop effing with good things!!

I think remakes need to be made at least 10 years later than this so that
1. none of the kids or young adults have any memory of the first in which to compare it, and 2. if they did a crap job ithe first is so incredibly outdated there isless of a problem.

I don't think I'll see it because I think the original was made so well. As for Jayden, yes, he's a cute kid, but I've never seen him in anything that his dad wasn't acting in already. This smacks too much of NEPOTISM. Why isn't Will Smith at least starting his kid off slowly, doing commercials or maybe getting into some kind of kid tv program so he can develop his acting chops? After all, daddy isn't always going to be around to get Jayden's acting gigs, right?

The last 7 years of Will smith moives have been depressing, borish, over induldge stories. I hate that he wants to buy his son this role when they could use the original actor, and use him as the father of the new Karate kid. It would be a better story line.

He was soooo cute!! I loved him as Johnny Cade in The Outsiders. To the person who said the drunken Miyagi scene is impossible to recreate, I agree 100%. "Wax on, Wax off." That movie was great!
