Sean Penn Should Stay Out Of Politics

| Filed under: PolitikSean PennHugo Chavez

Sean Penn's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, is speaking out in defense of her client.

Penn has been criticized as a "stooge for left-wing dictatorships" as he's been known to meet with douchebags like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro and then "write nice things about them."

If you recall, Penn was even hanging out with Chavez just this past October.

His rep, Buxbaum, says in Penn's defense that "Sean does not endorse dictators. Like him or not, Hugo Chavez is a democratically elected official."

She incredulously adds that "Sean is a champion of civil rights."

Yea, you go Champion!

Despite what his publicist says, Penn continues to praise the Castro and Chavez regime. Sean even said, "Chavez may not be a good man. But he may well be a great one."

WTF?!?

Buxbaum also stated, you "may not always agree with Sean, who aggressively questions and challenges the status quo in ways that aren't always polite." But Sean "asks questions, and questions the answers he gets."

What do U think of this?

    stooge….yes perfect word….

  2. 2

I Think Perez should stay out of politics…but we cant all get what we want =]

  3. 3

That's first amendments fo dat ass!

  4. 4

for your info perez .. Chavez was agaist the inhumane and atrocious slaughtering and massacres that the Isreali's commited in Palestine for more than 14 days .. so he isnt just a good man .. HE IS A FUCKING GREAT MAN!

  5. 5

What are you, stupid? Madonna has never gotten over this man. Plus, he shuns awards shows and still rock and rolls as hard as Johnny Depp. Dont fuck with Sean Penn. Just dont.

  6. 6

Yeah Perez, 'cos you have such a nuanced and sophisticated political view. Pfft. Perez Hilton should stick to gossip and leave politics the hell alone.

  7. 7

    Good for him.

  8. 8

Chavez, had done alot of good things for the poor and disenfranchised of his country. The rich do not like him for obvious reasons. But Perez, you should really read about all he does for the people. Don't just let your opinion be guided by American propaganda.

  9. 9

We think Sean Penn can say whatever the hell he wants even if it's incredibly stupid! He's lucky enough to live in a country that allows him to voice his questionable beliefs, praising leaders who make it so their own people don't have the same freedoms.

  10. 10

I think he needs to ORDER A PIZZA AND LEARN ABOUT CUBA.

  11. 11

Hugo and Chavez are both really good men! Just because they speak up against wrong things like the massacres in Palestine. They speak the truth not what other countries tell them to do

  12. 12

Perez, couldn't agree with you more! I think it's fair for a celebrity blogger to complain when celebrities make stupid (and borderline offensive) political statements! There's nothing good or democratic about Chavez - does no one read newspapers???
@ktownqueen, not only did chavez oppose Israel's "massacres", but so did various other upstanding world leaders, eg ahmedinejad

  13. 13

He is entitled to his own opinions and beliefs. None of our business.

  14. 14

HE CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS TO DO.AS LONG AS HE'S NOT HURTING ANYONE ELSE!!!

  15. 15

    Adoro!!!

    ;)

  16. 16

PENN HATES AMERICA AND LOVES HUGO CHAVEZ AND WAS MARRIED TO MADONNA? WHAT A NUT JOB!

  17. mw says – reply to this

    17

i like those who question beyond the obvious

  18. 18

Perez, this is one occasion where you need to check you facts. Hugo Chavez is beloved in his country by everyone but the rich oligarchy who want him dead. he is democratically elected each and every time he is challenged, and has improved the lives of million of poor in Venezuela. he is in no way or shape a dictator. i think you spend too much time watching American media and should take a lesson in what happens outside of America.

  19. 19

    Shut the fuck up Perez

  20. 20

perez, i agree and back you up on everything you do…but…i think your politics are WACK!!!! sean penn, hugo chavez, and fidel are cool people. i don't agree with you sorry.

  21. 21

What Madonna has to do with that post?! Some people here are ignorant as fuck!

  22. 22

    he's so hot

  23. 23

Take a fucking history class, Perez. And stop believing the bullshit America feeds you.

  24. 24

Sean Penn has the right to express his opinion, but it's the opinion of a barely educated celebrity. Take it in stride.

  25. 25

HAHAHA!!!! This is the pot calling the kettle black. YOU should stay out of politics as well.

  26. 26

Yes, when expressing opinions, we must make sure our opinion is acceptable to everyone before we say anything. That's what "free speech" is all about, isn't it? Oh, I forgot Bush/Cheney have been kicked to the curb!

  27. 27

U should stop believing everything the stupid box feeds u. If i recall correctly when this douchebag Bush was elected he had a popularity of 90%…now that the tv tells u to hate him, u hate him. The same with Castro and Chavez…u don't know a shit about them or their countries….but u hate them and call them "dictators"…i call u ignorant.

  28. 28

I think that's legit. I mean you can't always expect the media to give you an unbias view of things.

  29. 29

    Re: vadyas

    Air high-five Vadyas!

Perez, you should learn something about what is going on and the 'evil dictators' our mainstream media tells you to hate.

In fact, do yourself a favor and go watch Zeitgeist.

  30. 30

I think Sean Penn has the right to say whatever he wants about whoever he wants (thank you First Amendment), but actually travelling to places like Venezuela and meeting with the leaders of countries who openly hate America and would most likely do us harm if they could, well I consider that traitorous. I haven't seen a Sean Penn movie in years because I absolutely refuse to pay money to see anything he's involved with, which is sad because he is a great actor and I'm sure I'm missing out on brilliant movies. I've persuaded both my husband and my parents to join my Sean Penn boycott. To me, the traitorous filth doesn't deserve the money of hard working honest Americans.

  31. 31

chavez is controlling the media in his country! No free speech !
in cuba people die because they are hungry.
So Sean Penn should find better heroes!

  32. 32

Rhetoric from all angles and all sources, if you ask me. Always consider the source of all information so that you can (critically) think for yourself. Speak out, please. But, do not back-pedal thereafter. Know what you're saying before you say it. Use your head for something other than a hat rack. This comment is for everybody - Perez, Penn, Penn's team of PR tools and all others who care to read it. Educate yourself before attempting to "enlighten" others to your point of view. It's in all of our best interest for all of us to act in such a manner.

  33. 33

    Re: saraq1
it only one person Hugo Chavez

  34. meme says – reply to this

    34

He should be executed for treason. Chavez was democratically elected just like Saddam Hussein was democratically elected.

  35. 35

I agree he should stay out of politics, unless he wants to run for a political position. He nees to stick with what he does best acting and butt out!

  36. 36

Well, I think that they are interesting personalities, I would meet them if I could. This does not mean that I approve what they have done or are doing to the people in their countries. I don't think Sean approves either…I hope.

  37. 37

Whatever. Sean Penn is a badass and an incredible actor. He can do and say whatever the hell he wants. He's Sean Penn.

  38. Timmy says – reply to this

    38

He is a total stooge! What would Sean think if Bush enacted a law allowing himself to run for office for the rest of his life??? No term limits at all? I don't think he would approve…but it's okay for Chavez to do it in Venezuela? That's democracy? What an irrelevant douchebag! Love his acting though. ; )

  39. 39

    Re: FrenchBeauty

Frenchbeauty … our media is HEAVILY censored! Don't you find it odd that all MSM outlets are owned by four or five major corporations??? They are pumping the same crap into our heads.

Heavy censorship of the internet is coming, actually, it's already started.. I started doing some research regarding this around the time of the 2008 Olympics. I was disgusted that our 'journalists' were denied uncensored internet access, weren't allowed to cover certain stories, et. al. by the Chinese government. I was disgusted to see a country like China control it's people as such but it's much closer to home than we all think. The information is out there, just start looking beyond CNN and FOX.

    Do some research you guys.

I doubt Perez will because he wouldn't dare 'Bite the Hand That Feeds' him!

  40. 40

    Re: BettytheWise
    WTF??????

  41. 41

Sean Penn is a f*cking idiot if he thinks Chavez and Castro are heroes and this is coming from a leftist leftie. Chavez doesn't allow free speech and press in his country and we all know that they don't have that freedom in Cuba. Chavez supports the lunatic in Iran who scares even other Muslim leaders.

I don't support what happened in Palestine but I would never support a freaking idiot like Chavez. Sean Penn is a humorless twit who thinks he is much more relevant than he actually is. You make movies dude, that's it. You aren't changing the world, you aren't curing diseases, you make freaking movies. I'll always remember how he just didn't have an ounce of sense of humor during the Oscars when Chris Rock hosted. He needs to take the stick out of his ass and lighten up.

  42. 42

I remember that during the Katrina catastrophe, Sean Penn jumped into the filthy, snake infected waters and rescued a live, human being. He didn't brag about this, either. A person who was with him at the time "told on him."

  43. 43

    Re: oodles

Seriously people, do you live in your own private bubbles?
How can you say that about Chavez!! What about him financing the guerrilla in Colombia, using money from drugs traffic!! C'mon!!

  44. 44

    Re: saraq1
I meant Fidel and Chavez…..its late sorry!!!

  45. 45

Re: MrMadonna – He's a fuckdouchetardbag and your dick for defending his lame ass!

  46. 46

    Re: LOVE_HERNANDEZ

Who do you think is heavily funding (financially and with weapons) the Israelis to commit genocide against the Palestinians? THE US GOVERNMENT!!!

Do some research. We've all been brainwashed people.

  47. 47

Thank you Sean Penn for all your extraordinary performances on the movie screen. Plus your political opinions sound very good to me. Chavez has done a lot of good for his country Venezuela; only the rich dislike him for obvious reasons. As for Cuba, maybe it would have been preferable to leave the dictator Batista in control and not have a revolution ? Before Fidel Castro became the President of Cuba, the Cubans were forbidden to go to the beaches, which were reserved for the American tourists. In their own country ! Viva Chavez and Castro, two true humanitarians. Shame on the ignorant people who don't know the true facts. What do you have to say about the massacres in Gaza ? That would be interesting.

  48. 48

It's none of our concern what he thinks, and how he feels. Just so long as he remains the FANTASTIC actor that he is.

  49. 49

    ugh I cannot stand SP

  50. 50

    The Commie bastard!!

  51. 51

Re: ktownqueen – ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID??? HAMAS FIRES ROCKETS INTO ISRAEL..(NOT ISREAL AS YOU SPELL IT)…HAMAS HIDES ALL THEIR COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTERS IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS LIKE SCHOOLS, APARTMENT COMPLEXES AND HOSPITALS. THEN THEY "COMPLAIN" OF CIVILAIN CASUALTIES AND THE BIG BAD ISRAELI ARMY COMING TO GET THEM IN THEIR HOMES. WELL THATS WHAT HAMAS GETS FOR BEING HIDING COWARDS!

  52. 52

    Re: obamasfaintinggirl
I'm french, I don't watch CNN. Chavez is still a corrupted dictator.
I went to Cuba a few years ago : We were not allowed to visit all parts of the island… We needed a "guide" to show us only what we were allowed to see : beaches and people very happy with Castro… SOOOO democratic !

  53. 53

what do you thnk fat body? you are the biggest douche bag out there.

  54. 54

    O can't stand communists !!!

  55. 55

You are right on this one Perez. Chavez is shameful. His bad decisions have further impoverished his people.

  56. 56

You have to live in Venezuela or in Cuba to know the situation… I hate when "gringos" talk without property (and I'm sorry for using this word)… a few years ago many of you didn't know where Venezuela is… some people from the u.s. believe it was in Africa (OMG)… so we have to thank chavez the publicity???

  57. 57

Ktownqueen: maybe you don't know how El presidente "takes care" of our students… getting them in jail and using violence with them, and intruding the universities, just yesterday and today f.e…. oh, well that's the story you don't know… the inside history. Do you know how many persons die in a weekend in Caracas only??? Do you know how many violent death have occur in Venezuela just in ten years (the same time period ch has)

  58. 58

BettytheWise: sorry, but the nick does not fit you in this case, you don't know what you are talkin about… right know we can not hear the news because chav… is using all the radio frecuencies and tv channels to speak (which he does "best", all the freaking time)… and I'm not a rich person, I'm a middle class person in venezuela so in your countrie I will be a really poor people (I don't make even 500 $ a month and I have a degree, BTW it was hard to find i job because i was stigmatize like other 2 million people for putting my signature in something I believed)… a lot of poor people don't like Chavez, have you ever been in Venezuela??? there's no civil rights, you can't go out at night because you may not come back to home… what I'm talking? Night? even in the day… for Example a few weeks ago I was in a shooting in the middle of the city and in the middle of the day, and how was shooting??? the police, my friend… Chavez don't like to hear different opinions…

It makes me so mad, because you only know the "pretty" story… well this is no PARADISE!

Hell, I should be writing in spanish but the you would not understand, and I know this is a waste of time… you are not going to change your minds… if you don’t really don’t know

  59. 59

    Re: obamasfaintinggirl

I know that!! but then… what? Chavez is a hero? Fidel Castro!!
People, politicians around the world are doing what's best for their own, not for the people they speak for…
    BTW, I am not American

  60. 60

    Re: vengance
Hamas are defending their people and quite rightly seeing as they were elected. People think that because Isreal 'removed' themselves from Gaza there were left to live a free life?! No!! Tanks were still around occasionally shooting at innocent people and children for the sake of it…diggers were still uprooting olive trees which had grown for thousands of years which were many Palestinian peoples livelyhood. People have disappeared and been put into secret prisons for NO REASON!
They live in an open air prison…thats why the rockets are shot

You ask anyone in Gaza if they want Hamas to stop shooting…the answer is NO! Hamas is want the people want because they actually defend there country; with home made wepons against sophisticated equipment given to the Isrealis by the western governments.

You think rockets were shot from UN schools… NO…thats an ignorant view…the news tell you what the government tell them to say and who speaks in the ears of the governments…..the wealthy jewish businessmen who support the killing of Palestinians.

I'm writing you in my poor english… because i bet you don't undersand a little of spanish.
Tell me, the students are criminals??? and the criminals are what? that's what happen here in VZLA

  64. 64

Humanitarian? Are you fucking kidding me? The unemployment and poverty levels in Venezuela haven't improved in the least under his regime. As for this "democracy" he supposedly so supports, then why did he try to stage a military coup against a democratically elected government in 1992?

As for Israel, I don't know anyone who doesn't know that they aren't heavily funded by the USA. I don't agree with it but you cannot compare that to being funded by drug cartels that make their money on the backs of enslaved indigenous people who are forced under the threat of death to work in the coca fields and factories and whose product has been the destruction of many, especially in the Latino and African-American communities.

Spare me the whole brainwashing bullshit when all you are doing is spewing talking points from the look at me I'm a radical handbook and educate yourself a little bit about Hugo Chavez. He is not a good man nor is he a fair man. The economy in Venezuela has improved so why is it that the poor people of that country have seen no improvement in their quality of life? The money isn't reaching them so where is it going?

  65. 65

    Re: .perezhilton.com
Siento mucho lo que sucede en tu pais. La presidente del mio apoya a Chavez, porque como publicamente se conoce le financio la eleccion. La corrupcion en Argentina es la peor de todos los tiempos!!

  66. 66

    Re: FrenchBeauty

I'm sorry, I am used to discussing such topics with people here in the states. My bad for assuming you were American (even though your user name should have slapped me in the face).

Since I am American, we can't even fly to Cuba (such a democracy here … heh!) so I have never been. I agree with you that Chavez is still a corrupt dictator but we have them here as well; their title is merely changed to call them the President.

  67. 67

In this case, Hamas began launching missiles into Israel first. What was Israel supposed to do in that case?

I usually do not agree with Israel. I think they are a brutal country who have treated the Palestinians horribly for many years but Israel does have the right to protect their country.

  68. 68

Because Chavez villifies Israel most Americans see him as an evil man; really there is a lot to be said for him — perhaps Obama will shine the light.

  69. 69

    Re: LOVE_HERNANDEZ

Once again, I must apologize to you for assuming you were American, as I did with FrenchBeauty. I'm so used to discussing such subjects with Americans. I have to admit, it's nice to get a different perspective.

I am not calling Chavez is a hero, nor am I calling Castro one. Most Americans believe what our propaganda-feeding media tells us to believe. There is more to the story than what we are told to believe.

You are so right when you say that politicians (the elite) around the world are only looking out for their own interests, not their people they are paid to represent … INCLUDING THE UNITES STATES OF AMERICA.

We are about to welcome in the North American Union and most people here have never even heard of it or refuse to believe that it is true.

  70. 70

I think that you should stay out of politics Perez. Your views are provincial and narrow minded - some might even say idiotic.

  71. 71

Sean Penn also visited IRAN in August 2005. google "sean penn" and "iran." the a$$hole has a history of visiting repressive garrison states.
i strongly dislike this sean penn. please please go away man.

  72. 72

Well Chavez IS a democratically elected leader you, FAT. SWEATY. PIG.

  73. Toby says – reply to this

    73

This man makes me sick!! He should be deported as a traitor to his country. I so wish he would move to Cuba or Venezuala and stay there.

  74. 74

This must be where all the lefty retards hang out. You people pretend to love freedom and human rights but you worship power hungry dictator-butchers like Castro, Chavez, Mao and uncle Joe. Penn is an utter fool. He makes his living playing pretend. He's not some icon. He's not someone to be admired or even to give a second thought to. Perez you really nailed this guy. Right on!

  75. Pike says – reply to this

    75

    BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!

  76. 76

By the way, my username is a joke. I am not a fan of Obama. There was something I saw today on YouTube called "Obama's Fainting Women Traveling Circus Act". If you are ready for a laugh, go check it. Pretty funny stuff. People think this guy is on our side but he's not. He's working for the same puppet-masters as Bush was.

  77. 77

maybe because Sean Penn knows a lot of things that the other ignorant celebs don't know they are blind by the truth behind the Authority. The media and the celebrities are part of this Authority that is trying to keep us civilians from rising and revealing the truth behind this Authority.
don't know? look up The Bilderberg Group or watch the End Game documentary.

lol i love to scare people.

  78. 78

His publicist is correct. The media and Christofascists like to label people like Ahmadinnerjacket and Chavez as "dictators" because they don't like US policy. But, they're not dictators. They were elected by popular vote. We could argue that the elections there are fixed. But people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

  79. 79

to tell you the truth obamasfaintinggirl, all of the presidents are obligated to become puppets of these Authorities. It's under the contract. Presidents dont do shit but they do have to follow orders. so technically, bush wasn't really the bad guy, he was just the scapegoat or the fish bait.

  80. 80

Sean Penn is the greatest actor of today

  81. 81

    Re: whitehead

    whitehead, I heart you.

Thank you for helping to spread the truth! It's a refreshing thing these days. :)

  82. 82

Oh Perez! Sean being called a champion of civil rights and Hugo Chavez, a man who has given his country's natural resources back to his people, being called a great man is just like you being called a nice guy! I may not like Bush but he too is a multi-dimensional human being worthy of respect. You are so narrow sometimes. But you follow the money, right? Anything for a good blurb! Still got love for your though!

  83. S_A says – reply to this

    83

Perez, you probably have never been to Cuba because you're American, and I thought the same way as you did before I visited the country. The dynamic in Cuba is so amazing to me, even though many things are wrong (as it is in all societies), the people have a different frame of mind which I found refreshing. I have read many books about communism and made up my own mind about it rather than being a Cuban American like yourself who thinks they are supposed to be against Fidel without even thinking about it for a second.

As for Sean Penn, he is entitled to expressing his opinions…that's what America is about right?

  84. 84

Mario yhou need to stay out of politics and economics because you crappy opinion sucks at both. By the way, how are the book sales going?

  85. 85

    Re: obamasfaintinggirl
Well, it's nice to discuss such topics with people from different countries. There's no need to apologize.
I have no idea of what is The North America Union, is it something like the European Union? It includes Mexico?

  86. 86

    any time , buddy, anytime.

i love to be a buzzkill

my mom hates it when i start sounding like a conflict theorist

  87. 87

Que pasa en Argentina? yo no, sabia que Argentina tenia una problema politica.

y mi espanol no es tan bueno pero lo entiendo(=

  88. 88

    Re: PUAinNYC
the election that brought ahmadinejad to presidency was fixed. elections in iran are a joke. if you think he became president of the IRI by popular vote, you are sadly misaken. ahmadinejad is a puppet of khamene'i, and will probably be "voted" in again this summer when the elections take place.

  89. 89

    Re: LOVE_HERNANDEZ

Yep, Mexico, the USA and Canada. Scary shizz. We are waiting for the US dollar to collapse and it's closer than most think. We are in for a rude awakening. :( This is not something I'm excited about, believe me.

Where in the world are you?

  90. 90

Perez, I think you should continue to OUT all the Hollywood eggheads who support Chavez and Castro. Sean Penn isn't the only one.

  91. 91

    Re: obamasfaintinggirl

That's what I thought….and that would just affect us as well.
I am from Argentina, South America, the ass of the world!

  92. 92

    Re: LOVE_HERNANDEZ

The ass of the world? Ouch! I've never been, so I couldn't say. :-P

What are your thoughts about UNASUR? I just recently heard about this and have to admit, I haven't done much research into it but I'm shocked. Almost as shocked as the NAU.

What do you think about the Bush family purchasing 100,000 acres in Paraguay?

I'm excited to hear someone's thoughts who lives on the continent where all of this is taking place.

  93. 93

Sean Penn's politics have always been extreme. When shooting "The Interpreter" where he played an FBI agent. the ex-FBI agent who consulted on the part said talking to Penn in-between takes was like talking to a communist. Oh and ktownqueen: Hamas FIRED FIRST. So f**k them and the country that harbors them!! Ye reap what ye sow…

  94. 94

So, I think that you should stay out of politics perez!
So Why Sean Penn can't say what he really thinks about Castro or Chavez?
Doesn't he live at the "land of the free"?

I don't support at all Castro or Chavez but I respect people who thinks different.
At least he know them and can make a his own opinion about it.

I'm all for questioning everything at one point, but this is ridiculous. Free speech is beautiful b/c as much as people like him have a right to say lame stuff - People like Perez to call him an idiot! And me to agree. :-)

I'm reading all this shiz and I can't believe it. First off if you have a point to make. Please make it in complete sentences and like an educated person. When you use bad grammar; it makes people think you don't know what you are talking about. And second if the Govt. tells the television what to tell us. . . then why do they always seem to show and focus on how big of an idiot W is/was. If the govt was in control of that, then logically priority one would be making the president w/low approval rating look great. But there I go with logic. Silly me. I'm no fool. I know the govt does all sorts of shady things, but if you want govt owned TV. Move to Canada.

How about we get a little insight and truth from a former ZIONIST about what is going on in that region of the world. youtube.com/watch?v=iAuCg5exi1s

I was lucky to ring in the New Year with some family friends and had the opportunity to sit down with an 82-year-old Palestinian man who escaped as a young boy. He was fairly certain that if he didn't get out he would have become a suicide bomber. "When you are treated like a dog, you know nothing more than how to act like a dog", he told me. He worked his way up from nothing and is now a well-renowned Pediatrician.

STOP THE GENOCIDE!!! The Israelis stole the land from the Palestinians and now they let them 'live' there. Their food, water and electricity is controlled by the Israelis. Even medical aide is controlled by the Israelis!

I found myself in tears after hearing the story about the four babies found clinging to their dead mothers (1/8/09). And this is just one story out of how many?

I'm just appalled. I've never in my life been more ashamed to call myself a human being.
