The New York Times Gets Some Help From A Wealthy Friend

The New York Times is getting a very generous helping hand!
The newspaper of record is receiving a $250 million investment from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helú.
Slim currently owns 6.9% of the Times' stock. He'll now receive warrants in the company, which could give him up to 17% ownership, making him one of the largest shareholders.
The New York Times Co. also owns The Boston Globe along with other U.S. papers. However, the company currently is struggling to pay off an over $1.1 billion debt in the next few years.
The Times Co. currently has $46 million in cash but will face a $400 million credit facility that expires this May.
As for Slim, he's currently the world's second-richest man, with a net worth of $60 billion.
That's a lot of billions!

Maybe it shows that us Americans should stop hatin on the mexicans that are trying to look for some minimum wage work and start welcoming them instead, but doing it the right way obviously, speaking in legal terms.

I find it incredibly disgusting that Mexico is the home of the worlds second richest man???? He's obviously a scumbag to take money from the poorest of the poor. He should be giving that wealth back to his country in the form of funding education for his people. I'm so grossed out.

Mexico is an Upper Middle Class income country. The only difference is there is no welfare so social programs. The Mexican government only caters to the rich and ignores the other half of the population that lives on less than $1.00 a day.
It's a country built on racism and the old caste system from colonial rule is still in place. This is why we only see dark-skinned Mexicans of Amerind ancestry in the U.S.A. You will never see a poor White or Lite Skin Mexican. This guy is actually of Lebanese ancestry not Native Mexican Indian ancestry.

Carlitos Slim should invest more money in the Mexican economy he has done some for his country but, needs to do more since he is able to do so.
He has done a lot in and outside his country!! Just to let you know, there are poor people everywhere and that doesn´t mean that it is a bad or a good country!!! Mexico is not as poor as many think. Also, we do have SOCIAL SECURITY, that means we get free medical care if we have a job that offers the benefit. My dad gets it to this day. My grandma used to get free surgeries when she had cancer. How can we define poverty???? If you go to different neighborhoods in the United States you will find poverty. Houses full of roaches, wood that is rotten. Every culture has a different type of poverty. We are poor now in the US. Everything is about mortgages and loans. Do we really have the money if we don't work? Utilities are expensive. Yes we have poverty where indigenous groups live…. but they have a choice to live freely in Mexico…. Not in Reservations where the land is not fertile. These poor people in Mexico eat fresh fruit and vegetables they grow….. Unlike us that pay like 6 bucks for a watermelon that has no flavor. Yeah define poverty, I can show you as many places in the US with poverty, As many people without medical care cause is so expensive here.
