Akon doesn't want to release his real age, because he's hoping to appeal to his female fans????
The singer said in a recent interview, "All it's going to do is depress me. I don't want to know I'm getting older. Then I'll start to think about getting checkups and insurance. I don't want that."
He should be getting yearly checkups regardless of his age. And we really hope he has insurance!
As for his actual age, different reports have claimed he's anywhere from 25 to 35 years old.
In an interview back in 2006, Akon said he was 25. Though, now he claims he's 31 according to his birth certificate which he says shows he was born on April 16, 1977.
Wikipedia claims from several different sources that he's actually turning 36 this year and was born April 16, 1973.
Many have accused Akon of trying to make himself seem younger, though he claims age isn't important where he grew up. Akon was born in the U.S. but spent most of his early life in Senegal, where his family is originally from.
He says, "In Africa … age is not important over there. They don't care. People only focus on it here [America] and in Europe."
So what does he do when he's asked his age? Akon says he just gives them whatever number comes to mind. Adding, "I feel like I'm 21 right now. And I'll be 21 for the next 10 years."
We wonder what age his driver's license says. Isn't it illegal to have a false date of birth on your ID?

Africans are notorious for lying about their age. Many professional athletes, including some in the NBA and professional soccer players all have fake birth certificates claiming to be younger then they really are.. so stupid.

I'm going to be 36 this year—before Akon, even, so I'm older than him! But looking at his picture, I would say anywhere between 35-40 would be an accurate estimation of his age. He shouldn't be ashamed of it though! 36 is young, especially in this day and age. I intend to live into my 90s!

I believe that we should not have to base ourselves on our years. I think its a prison of thinking a certain way and allowing our bodies and minds to age with the thoughts of getting older, rather than our age just showcasing how many years we have learned and are continuosly growing on earth. we are on this earth for so short, lets not worry about age bringing us down. those who focus on age will only start looking older, but if you still feel 21, then so be it! i still look quite young for my age! its not worth it to be bitter and sarcastic all the time!

It's a blessing and a curse when getting old, especially the realization and adjusting to it. But keep in mind the alternative. Akon, you aging has made you smarter and your music much better. Who cares what is age is and it's not uncommon for certain people to know what their real age is. As he said people from AFrica and other 3rd world countries don't live their life by their age. My parents were born in Southeast Asia and they don't have birth certificates here like we do. So when I ask my parents when their birthday is, they don't know because it's not something their parents keep track is. They know the year but not the specific date.
