Warner Bros Is Taking Another Ride On The Heath Ledger Money Train

batmanopen__opt1.jpg

How convenient!

The late Heath Ledger's Oscar nomination for the Joker role was announced today, Thursday, and the Dark Knight studio, Warner Bros., just happens to have 'encore' presentations of the summer blockbuster ready to show at IMAX theaters worldwide starting Friday.

By now, who in the world hasn't seen Dark Knight?

Are you willing to shell out money to have the Dark Knight IMAX experience? Again?

This is not the first time they re-release a movie right before Oscar-time!!
      RIP, Heath…. :(

    2. 2

      moooochers!

    3. 3

Meh- I never saw it, and Im not going to IMAX to see it either. I just really don't care.

    4. 4

      I still haven't seen it. I'd pay.

    5. 5

      off course they are…..nothing new

    6. 6

Never saw it in the first place, not my kind of movie.

    7. 7

      YES!!!

    8. 8

The rerelease was planned months and months ago. I would totally see it on IMAX again. The movie is badass.

    9. 9

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

    10. 10

Not shocking, cashing in on the death of celebrities will never go out of style. Marilyn Monroe still brings in the money, as does Tupac, Selena, Elvis, etc etc etc

    11. 11

Possibly we would see it again. on an IMAX screen would be cool

    12. 12

I haven't seen The Dark Knight. Not sure I really want to either. Don't get me wrong loved Heath Ledger in the movie The Order, but a batman movie, not really my thing.

    13. 13

i still haven't seen the dark knight yet….

    14. 14

Jeez Perez, did you ever stop to think that they are doing it for Heath's fans?

    15. 15

Only way to see the movie….

Nope. The nearest IMAX to me is in Manchester and I'm not bothering. Can they release Mamma Mia again for a laugh? Beat Batman TWICE in the UK? :)

I wonder what will happen when the Harry Potter films end. When Chris Nolan doesn't make another Batman movie. RIP Warner Bros. Or at least resort to live action Bugs Bunny? Oh, you've already done that…

      17

If they wanted to do this, they shouldn't have released the DVD last month.

    18. 18

i've never seen itttt and i don't like batman so i won't waste my money seeing it ever

    19. 19

OH, I would just to support Heath's performance…so sad that he is gone.

    20. 20

Nope, you can BUY it on DVD and Blu-ray…why pay to see it again at the same amount?
      DO NOT Break Titanic's record.

    21. 21

      Blood sucking bastards.

    22. 22

They were obviously counting on a BEST PICTURE nom for their silly comic book movie in scheduling this release. Always sad to see the overreaching get busted in such a public way. But any film that casts Maggie Gyllenhaal as a romantic leading lady is pretty ridiculous, no?

    23. 23

      I haven't seen it!!!

    24. 24

I haven't seen it yet. If it's on IMAX here in Canada I will go see it.

    25. 25

pathetic….i never saw it but i wouldn't go to the movies…i would just rent it….much chaeper

    26. 26

      umm YES!

    27. 27

Errrrrrr… I haven't seen The Dark Knight. Is that bad?!?!

    28. 28

oh shit yeah i'd pay money to see tdk on imax again. i saw it the first time on the big screen so every time after that was moderately disappointing. it kicks ass on imax!

    29. 29

      I haven't seen it!! I want to..

    30. 30

we own it but yes, i would go see it at an imax theatre. i'm going to have to call imax in seattle and see if they're playing it. woot!

    31. 31

      I haven't seen it.
I think Heath was a terrific actor but I just have no desire to see another movie about batman

      32

The plans for re-releasing the film this month (or December 2008) were released a while back; it has nothing to do with the Oscar nom!!

    33. 33

they actually planned this a while ago…

    34. 34

      hell no
      i already saw it

    35. 35

haven't seen it, won't see it on IMAX-do not like any of the Batman movies

    36. 36

      Hell yeah!!

    37. 37

I understand where you're coming from but honestly… this was the first movie i ever saw in IMAX and i was really pissed at first when i found out how much it was going to cost… but when i walked out of the movie i actually said "wow, i'd pay that price again to see this movie in IMAX"… so i'd have to say yes

    38. Norig says – reply to this

      38

I wanted to see on Imax when first released but couldn't cause it was consistantly sold out. So yeah I would cause it's supposed to look amazing as alot of it was shot for imax.

    39. 39

nope ive seen it already, thats a really pretty shallow, stupid move

    40. 40

Yep. I'd def see it again. Only saw it once the first time round and intended to see it again on the big screen, but didn't get round to it.

Every year there are movies that re-release after Oscar noms. Its no big deal.

      41

It's not about "taking a ride" for the sake of making money. It is common practice for studios to re-release movies after Oscar Noms. Some people just prefer to see a movie on a big screen.

    42. 42

      Re: The Warden

Um.. so if the "Gay Mafia" Academy wants Heath to have an Oscar so bad, why didn't they give him one for Brokeback Mountain? I think he DEFINITELY should have won that year. He's brilliant in Dark Knight also - but I would have preferred to see him win for Brokeback.

    43. 43

they don´t do it because of heath, they do it because they planned it months ago and now is the time for it…

      …get a life! aim higher!

      next

    44. 44

Call me lame but I haven't seen it.

    45. 45

well seeing as how i can get into the imax here for free.. hell to the yeah! it's increds in the imax!

    46. 46

Perez, this has been announced weeks ago. Like, last year. They were SO close to a record-breaking box office, they are SO close to going over $1billion, that they always intended to re-release it after the First of the Year to break thru. Not surprising. I intend to go seem it on an Imax screen. I didn't have the chance to do it before. Oh. And I have only seen it once. But I adore Heath and I got the DVD for a Christmas present.

    47. 47

I haven't seen it and don't plan to see it. I don't like the Batman series and the Ledger movies I've tried to watch, I could never get through them. Everyone says he was great in Batman, but I'm just not interested.

    48. 48

Mmmm you take pics with the Kardashians and the Pratt's to publish a ridicolous book that you didn't even write and you come now talking bs about people trying to milk the cow??? Lol how hypocrite of you! At least the Darknight was a good movie… ass!

    49. 49

I have yet to see it. I meant to, just never got around to it. ;)

    50. 50

The re-release was announced months ago. I believe the idea was that by getting it back into the theaters now, while the Oscars are being voted on, the movie is more likely to win some awards. Most Oscar contenders are released at the end of the year so they are fresh in everyone's mind, while TDK was a summer blockbuster and might be overlooked by people who saw it so long ago.

    51. 51

Are you kidding me?? OF COURSE!!!
There are a lot of us who have been waiting MONTHS for the re-release.
This is NOT NEWS to the rest of us.
If you have not seen it in IMAX then don't comment on something you don't understand.

    52. 52

i never seen it! but i plan on doing so : )

    53. 53

i haven't seen it. forgive me?

    54. 54

I haven't seen the movie. You are a dim-whited moron, Mario. Fuck you very much.

    55. 55

Actually, there is nothing special about re-releasing a movie into a cinema or the IMAX, they do the same with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter films. If the public wants it, they get it. And why not, Dark Knight is an awesome movie, i'd pay to go see it at the IMAX!

    56. 56

The Dark Dud sucked ass, I wouldn't torture myself watching that mess again. Heath is more more popular dead than he was alive, not the greatest actor by far.

    57. 57

Do it. See it on the Imax. Totally worth it

    58. 58

Once was enough to see this crappy movie! Lock in a vault with all the other raspberries out there! Ledger was a waste of film. Drug addicts don't deserve to be honored.

    59. 59

Yes, didn't see it in IMAX yet, would be awesome. RIP Heath

    60. 60

OK, we saw DK in IMAX the first time, and have been hoping for a return engagement! The family will definitely be going again (And we have it on Blu-Ray paired with 42" LCD - but nothing beats IMAX!)
To be honest, the movie was GOOD, not great. After all, it IS based on a comic book - how great could it be? Notwithstanding previous remarks, the IMAX experience was AWESOME! As well, Heath's representation of the Joker was absolutely Incredible! He was was one of the most believable, scary psychopaths I think I have ever seen (Slasher movies - boring…).
I am NOT a Heath fan, but he was a good actor - my sadness over his passing is that he will not be able to reprise his Joker role in any other Batman release.
And to the KNOB who said that drug addicts don't deserve to be honored - idiotic comment - sure drugs are stupid (and alcohol has caused lots of misery, too! ) but Heath's performance was worthy of the Oscar.

    61. 61

FYI I bought my IMAX tix BEFORE Heath was nominated. Also, I didn't get the chace to see it in IMAX the previous time.

    62. 62

I have seen this movie a million times and I even own it but I am deffinatly going to go see it in IMAX! It is a really good movie!

They did release the movie last month but that is just another reason to get it in IMAX for the way it should be seen!

    63. 63

      Beyond Amazing Performance.
      i'd see it again.

    64. 64

Your an idiot, if you got your facts straight you'd know that they were planning this like a month after it left theaters, its for oscars, plus they prolly wanna rack in more money to see if they can beat titantic.

    65. 65

No IMAX where I live but hells yes, I'd go see it again and again.
