R.I.P.

So, so, sad.
Mariana Bridi da Costa, the model/Brazilian Miss World finalist who had her feet and hands amputated in a bid to save her life, died on Saturday.
The model suffered from necrosis, or the fast deadening of tissue, caused by septicemia.
Septicemia, triggered by a bacterial infection, causes insufficient blood flow that can lead to organ failure.
"Unfortunately Mari couldn't resist any longer. She passed away at 3 a.m. today," said Henrique Fontes, executive director of Miss World Brazil, to the media via e-mail.
Our thoughts are with Miz da Costa's family and friends.
Also, some scary figures — septicemia is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., and unfortunately, doctors don't know too much about the ailment.
It kills approximately 800,000 in the US a year.
Please figure it out, docs! Keep us safe!

RIP, gorgeous
I wish the news would at least mention what symptoms of a urinary tract infection are and how to prevent them, because that is what led her to what killed her, and it's very treatable and preventable! Instead, they just focus on how sad it is a pretty girl died, although like this says 800,000 others died from it here last year! Frustrating.
Actually we know quite a bit about septicemia, it's just hard to reverse.
Crazy. I wonder if she knew they cut off her hands and feet and then gave up hope.
The samething happen to a Brooklyn mother, Tabitha Mullings, who lost her hands and legs to gangrene caused by a bacterial infection. Fucking scary man.

That's really tragic
RIP Mariana
wtf new disease is this? and who wants to live without hands and feet anyway :/
Sad story - probably better off. I know I'd prefer death to living without extremities. Would YOU want to rely on someone to wipe your ass?
It's tragic when anyone dies before their time. Peace to her and her family.
So sad! RIP…
It's scary to read about fatal diseases like this, I always feel like I probably have it…
Wow, what a brave woman! Getting her hands and feet cut off to save her life! And yet she still died.
I hope her family are well and that a cure is found!
That is so sad. Apparently she had a urinary tract infection (I've had one) which led to this. RIP pretty lady
Such a tragedy so young my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and everyone else dealing with this horrible illness.
wow, this is so sad… she was so young and beautiful. very sad indeed i_i
Re: john holmes – You are a worthless piece of shit. That's not the least bit funny and you obviously have no respect.
They need to publicize that it was from not noticing a urinary tract infection. It is so easy to get one. You can get it from wearing thongs, holding in your pee too long, or sex, amongst other things. It is important to know the signs: if your pee burns, if you go pee too much, any change in urination, you should go to the doctor. UTIs can also make you really tired.
That's awful & so sad!
My thoughts to her family and friends.
i'm a doctor. septicaemia is quite a simple concept. i don't know which doctor you been speaking to to write this, 'cos it sounds like they bought their degree online. you could've at least searched for it on wikipedia before making ignorant people out there read this and actually believe the nonsence you spewed
SO WHAT.
my prayers go out to her family…
i know exactly what they have gone through bc my mom has been fighting this same disease the past 3wks… this is a very bad infection and no one deserves to go through it…. r.i.p mariana
I know a survivor of this illness. It is painful to look at the arm that was affected.
the infection starts off like a urniary infection, or any adonimal infection…
my mom had a kidney stone and an intestine problem that caused her infection to happen… she wasnt missed diagnosed all the early signs of septcemia is the same signs as a simple uniary infection… my mom had early antibiotics for her kidney stones but still got the infection.. the infection is fast to fast to find and treat it before it gets too bad…
how sad
It's not a mystery… septicemia is an overwhelming bacterial infection throughout the body. If they catch it with antibiotics early on they can cure it .. if not it leads to organ failure then death. Problem is there are a lot of antibiotic resistant bacteria brought on by antibiotics being prescribed by md's for the tiniest little sneeze or fart. Perez….. doctors do know about the ailments.. read up a little your ignorance is showing..
so very very sad.
