A Worthwhile Cause

"Best Friends Animal Society is guided by a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.

At the sanctuary
The Best Friends Animal Sanctuary at Angel Canyon, at the heart of the Golden Circle of national parks in southern Utah, is home on any given day to about 2,000 dogs, cats, and other animals, who come from shelters and rescue groups around the country for special care they can only receive at Best Friends.

Most of the animals who find their way to Best Friends have special physical or behavioral needs, and our expert staff of veterinarians, trainers and caregivers offer them all the help they require. Most of them are ready to go to good new homes after just a few weeks of special care. A few, who are too old or too sick, or who have suffered extra trauma, find a home and haven at the sanctuary, and are given loving care for the rest of their lives.

Around the country
Best Friends works with our members — and with humane groups, individuals and entire communities — to set up spay/neuter, shelter, foster and adoption programs in neighborhoods, cities, and states throughout the country. Through this work, Best Friends is helping to save and rehabilitate tens of thousands of animals each year.

Through the online Best Friends Network, the society reaches across the nation and around the world, helping local communities to rescue animals in distress and to create their own No More Homeless Pets communities.

Animal rescue and disaster response
At home and abroad, Best Friends has led some of the largest animal rescue efforts in recent history. These rescues include natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, wartime situations, and animal hoarding or failed shelter situations where hundreds of dogs and cats need urgent and continuing care for many months before they can be placed in good new homes. With its sanctuary and rescue experience, Best Friends is the only organization in the country capable of mounting such major rescue efforts.

Public education
Best Friends offers workshops, internships, training programs and conferences to help individuals, groups and communities to set up and manage their own shelter, rescue, adoption and spay/neuter programs. Best Friends magazine also has the largest readership of any general-interest animal publication in the U.S."

Lets take care of the PEOPLE first. Fuck the animals.

  5. 5

Finally You Ask Us To Help A Creature That Appreciates Help, Not Just Uses It's War Cry OF " WE NEEDS HEP - WE NEEDS HEP "but NEVER (heps) themselves or anyone else? Good Job Perez?

  6. 6

Id rather save the animals before I save a grown human being.

  7. 7

AddictingGirls, I feel EXACTLY the same way as you.

This is a wonderful organization. How do I know? Because I am a member. A $25 donation makes a world of difference to a dog, cat, bird, horse, pig, wild animal, goat, donkey, etc. The care these guys get here is second to none, and the people devote their lives to the animals. They work miracles with the animals and end up being able to place about 70% of them in new loving homes. And if they can't find a home, the animals get tons of love for their lifetime. If you ever get the chance to go there, it is life changing. If you can't go, donate because it really does help to change the life of an animal.

This organization is THE best animal shelter/rescue in the country! I have been a member for 10 years and the work they do phenomenal. No kill, just medical treatment, shelter, food and LOVE. And as for "helping" people first, I would rather save a 1000 animals before most of the human scum I've seen. I have seen so much fraud with welfare, child support, food stamps WIC etc. Able bodied adults ripping off the system, buying steaks with food stamps then paying for liquor & cigarettes with a big roll of cash while the working poor are funding the party! NO WAY, all my donations go to animal causes.

Omg this organization is AMAZING, you should DEF donate, and if you really want to see them in action, watch DogTown on the National Geographic channel. Seriously this show is all about the people at Best Friends and all the wonderful animals that they work with. Also, a lot of people dont know this, but when the pitbulls from Michael Vick's dog fighting ring were all originally sentenced to be put down, best friends took all of them in and worked on their rehabilitation and were able to adopt out a lot of them. If you want to watch that whole process, it was their 2 hour debut episode and I'm sure you can find it somewhere. This is hands down one of the BEST shelters out there and I think that they deserve all the help they can get.

    Ditto AddictingGirls and AmeriCan!

I love this organization -it's grassroots - and 97% of their profits go to the animals - back in to the program - unlike other fat cat organizations like Raising Malawi, UNICEF, Nature Conservancy etc…

    Re: Pike

Pike - You can do both - I donate to children's organizations, Vietnam Vets, Fire fighters and animal shelters - my dogs are from animals shelters - there in no reason to ask like an uniformed fool…

  21. 21

    What a WONDERFUL cause!!! :)

  22. 22

God bless them for trying to make a difference for the innocent animals of this earth. We could all learn a few things from our animals.

  23. 23

OMG Perez, right before this article you're making fun of an actress' chin, and then right after it, you post an inspirational article about animal resuces? Seriously, are you bipolar? It's OK to treat humans like shit and but then you talk about saving animals? I love this story on animals but I'm starting to question your mental health… Not only are you schitzo but you are definitely also a HIPPOcrite!!!!! Get it? HIPPO? hahahaha

  24. 24

God Bless all of you very special people for helping our four legged friends - This world needs a whole lot more like you guys!!!

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!! Now this is the stuff I love to read.

I don't like this organization. Keeping animals "alive at any cost" is not humane, it's lunacy. Everything dies (everything and everyone) and death is not the "worst" thing, believe me. There are many unwanted HEALTHY animals (and people); yet BF saves animals with very compromised existences. Euthanasia is a wonderful thing. I don't like "no kill" shelters. Pragmatism can be humane. WE ALL HAVE TO DIE, and an animal living a the "humane" (not) society for months or years is NOT better off than if it were sent bye-bye forever.
