First Wives' Club To Hit The Stage

Because "original" ideas are so last century!

An all-star cast is set to star in a musical adaptation of the 1996 hit flick The First Wives' Club. It will be directed by Little Mermaid director Francesca Zambello, with a book by Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes, and music by Motown songwriting trio Holland-Dozier-Holland.

They're hoping to have it ready for a summer premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego with an eye on Broadway.

The real question is whether or not the production can sell tickets in our current economic climate!

Was The First Wives Club enough of a hit to do well on Broadway????

Shrek is tanking!

The book "The First Wives Club" was great and the movie with Diane Keaton, Bett Midler and Goldie Hawn in starring roles was excellent.

I never saw Shrek the musical, but I think First Wives has a much better chance because it has pathos and an actual plot. Shrek was pretty contrived and the movie at least relied on special effects. I don't think you can even compare the two. First Wives is a great idea.

I think this should do well on Broadway because it involves a topic many people can relate to. At least more than Shrek anyway! Looking forward to it!!

Love this movie!! I'd pay to see a broadway show as long as they have good actresses/actors.

shrek isn't tanking at all perez, it got great reviews and is doing very well in ticket sales. do your research before you post, k?

Oh BS. They just saw that the Nine to Five musical was doing OK, so they went and found another movie with 3 leading ladies that could be recycled as a play.

      It's about time!

Now you're asking if tickets will sell right after a post saying that Will Ferrell's show was packed! Cut down on whatever you are smoking man.

I agree with Perez…no more original ideas. This movie was not a major hit…so…let's make it a big Broadway musical. I would feel safer giving my money to Bernie Madoff than invest in this turkey.

Re: bellear86 – Perez did do his research…Shrek is NOT a hit and did not generate great reviews. 25% of the seats are empty for each performance. When a multimillion dollar show opens in November and is showing those numbers, it will never make a profit,k?
