      What about my Netflix??? BAH!

That's a good idea. Maybe more workplaces whould consider doing 4-day work weeks with 10 hour days to save on electricity and give employees an extra day home with the family.

I'd love a 3 day weekend every weekend!

the post office is government but runs its self without any help from the rest of the government. the post office has been taking about this for a few years, so perez, you are late again with this, and it will go to a business week.

The USPS will always be unprofitable. They should shut their doors permanently and take all that f*ing junk mail with them. The reason the government won't pass do not mail lists, is that the USPS would go broke without them.

    9. 9

it may be reduced to 3-4 days if they eliminate the junk mail ,right? The letters ,the bills and …. that's it.

    10. 10

Who cares, in Australia we have only ever gotten deliveries 5 days a week. 1 less day to receive bills.

    11. 11

here where i live in canada, we have only had 5 day postal service dfor my whole life. no need for postal service on saturday or sunday…. here anyway our utility offices and banks are mostly not open anyway so no way to pay the bills you get in the mail anyway…lol

and please, you, the government, please build factories to offers new ,real jobs-we need so many things in everyday life - do not import them from China,or India… come on now… invest the bail-out money in something we can see and feel… not just BANKS ….or for executives to buy Jets or vacations…get real

The USPS should be privatized. Run it like a real world corporation and not some joke of a government office.

Bullshit!! My husband is a Letter Carrier for the Postal Service and Head Union Stewart. I wish they would shorten the delivery week, but sadly they will not.

    16. 16

I want my fucking Netflix and Gamefly. I'm gonna be pissed if they make it 5 days a week. Here's an idea to help: Stop delivering junk mail. That would cut down on mail.

    17. 17

i also saw they are considering raising the price of stamps an additional time. instead of raising the price on the citizens and decreasing the number of days they should make the CEO's who gave themselves million dollar bonuses to pay them back. our government is dilusional.

    18. 18

TODAY THE POSTMASTER GENERAL ASKED CONGRESS TO CUT DELIVERY TO 5 DAYS, SO WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS….IF YOU PEOPLE THINK THIS WON'T ELIMINATE JOBS, YOUR WRONG….AND I BET IF IT DOESN'T PASS P.M POTTER WILL TRY TO BLAME THE UNION FOR THIS, JUST LIKE THE BIGSHOTS DID IN THE AUTOWORKERS BAILOUT CONTROVERSY!!!!! MAYBE 5 DAYS ISN'T SUCH A BIG THING NOW BUT IT'LL BE A START TO MORE CUTS….RAISING POSTAGE A PENNY OR TWO IS NOT GOING TO BREAK YOU PEOPLE!!!! THINK ABOUT ALL THE SHIT YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY ON NOW, LIKE 7$ COFFEE……

    19. 19

It works for us here in Australia. No mail on Saturdays means no bills until Monday…pAArtay!

    20. 20

      that would be HORRIBLE

    21. 21

I think it makes sense if it means it will balance their budget. As long as mail is delivered M-F we can go to FedEx or UPS if there is something urgent enough it needs delivered on Saturday. 99% of mail isn't critical enough to need it delivered over the week-end anyway.

    22. 22

WTF?? They don't deliver the mail enough days of the week as it is!! I hate when they take off every conceivable holiday on the calender and that they don't deliver mail on Sundays. I always thought they needed to hire some Jewish/Muslim/atheist carriers so that they could deliver mail on Sundays without offending those who believe in that taking Sunday off thing.

    23. 23

BTW…to the above poster…ALL my mail is "critical". When I buy stuff from eBay, I want it like YESTERDAY. It can't get here fast enough!

    24. 24

And I don't buy that the postal service is doing so poorly either. They make more revenue than *ever*, consider the amount of crap that's shipped on a DAILY basis from people like me who eBay obsessively. In the past, they didn't do nearly as much a high volume of shipping as they do now so, if anything, I really resent their constantly raising the cost of stamps and shipping.

the usps is the only for-profit entity of the federal government. Its called competition! Decrease it to 5 days, its not a big deal but don't complain about it.

    26. 26

If they change they better not raise the price of stamps!

    27. 27

nobody uses the mail anymore anyway (i haven't bought a stamp in YEARS). i hope they do it.

    28. 28

They should stop delivering on Sturdays. There is no reason they need to.

    29. 29

Re: kikipoo – Uhm, you DO know that the USPS doesn't have a CEO that takes bonuses, right? THe "CEO" of USPS would be Obama.

    30. 30

At least you get 6 days a week of postal service. Here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, we only get 5. And whenever there's a holiday, then it's only 4.

    31. 31

we have never ever had a 6 day postal service in Ireland
Thought we were the only country in the world who did that.
Come to think about it, we're the only country where the pubs are closed on "Good" Friday. I'd get over that but its really embarassing when tourists or people on business come over here and they're amazed that they aren't even allowed wine with their dinner :-( Sorry for going off topic by the way :-)
